So Rock Band is a 10-bit game? 11-bit if they're using signed integers.

But you don't have to play 1000 songs to log scores for 1000 songs. It'd take me 5 minutes (maybe) to write a script to update scores for every single one of their songs on an account.

They're just lazy stupid programmers who don't know how to automate tests.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Hey gang,

Known for their tight sound that seamlessly blends rock, funk, rap, reggae, and more, 311 has long been requested by Rock Band fans. On October 2nd, the band makes its debut on the Rock Band Music Store with three of its biggest tracks!

The chart-topping track that pushed the band in to the mainstream spotlight in the mid-90s, “Down,” kicks off the three-pack. “Beautiful Disaster” from 1997’s Transistor and the reggae-tinged “Amber” from 2002’s From Chaos flesh out “311 Pack 01”! All of the tracks can be purchased as part of the pack, or individually; an optional Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade will also be available for “Down.”

Additionally, during the week of the release of “311 Pack 01,” Rock Band Blitz players will earn double Coins any time they play any of the three tracks from the pack!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (October 2nd, 2012):

• 311 – “Down” X
• 311 – “Beautiful Disaster” O
• 311 – “Amber” O

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system October 3rd)

Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points™) for the “311 Pack 01”
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points ™, 200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (80 Microsoft Points™, 100 Wii Points™), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

I really don't care about 311, and I imagine the whiners on the forums and Twitter will be vocal again, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for Down. Not sure if I'll buy it, but I'm glad it's there.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I'm now rethinking my statement about Smash Mouth/Offspring being their worst-ever week.

On a serious note, there's no better evidence that being sold by MTV has hurt them than the comparison between the last month or so of actual music (again: Grammy season) vs what Harmonix has chosen to release during that same time (County Fair-grade 90's nostalgia acts)

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Hey, I like Country Fair-grade '90s nostalgia acts. Just not the ones we've been getting as DLC. (Give me "Molly", "Flagpole Sitta", "Good", "Laid", "Seether", etc. and I'll buy them on day one.)

Meh. Another week I don't have to spend any money. The 50% off sale has given me plenty to occupy my time anyway. I kinda liked 311 in high school, but have long since outgrown them. (Get some booze in me a little later on and I might buy "Down" just for the hell of it,though. )

Yep, I like Down, but not excited.

Maybe ... I just have this false sense of hope that they are releasing these underwhelming acts so when they do drop the next big one it will have been worth the wait.

I'm not offended enough by 311 to whine about it, but I am anxiously awaiting a Friday announcement that actually makes me happy and/or surprises me.

Some Metric or ELO would make me spunk my trunks.

See, that's untrue. There are exactly six artists that would please us. Everything else is an utter fail.

For a fun read, I just looked back at the week of the Pixies announcement. Now there was some epic complaining. It went on for weeks:

Boring, not even rock, too obscure...

I don't like 311 even a little bit, but they're popular enough (and still around?) that it's nothing for Harmonix to be embarrassed about.

Totally agree that they really, really need a Metric pack. And ELO. Ben Folds Five would be neat, even if the plastic guitarist had to twiddle his thumbs or (gasp!) give bass a shot. It's insane to me that Elastica's "Connection" isn't in there.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Hey gang!

Since launch we’ve been keeping a close eye on the trends in player behavior in Rock Band Blitz. As we expected would be the case, in the weeks post-launch, we found people leaning more heavily on certain Power-up loadouts than others, and falling into pretty rigid playstyles. In response to this, we have rolled out some tweaks to our power-ups this week that should help level the playing the field a bit for some of the previously under-powered items. We hope this will give you a greater range of power-ups and playstyles to try out and play with, thus also further extending the time you spend with Rock Band Blitz!

Allow me to allay some worries right off the bat. We’re only tweaking these things in the positive. That is, your favorite power-up is not being maimed or gimped in any way. You just may start to see a little more competition for your top leaderboard spots from some folks, so keep a look out!

Power-Ups Affected:
-Point Doubler
-Bottle Rocket
-Shockwave
-Pinball
-Instrument Bonuses (including Synchrony)

Play around with try these out now, you may find you have a new favorite loadout! We’ll continue to keep a look out for any play anomalies and work to keep right the ship in such cases that it’s deemed necessary. Thank you all, as always, for being our eyes and ears on the frontlines. I hope this will bring an air of freshness to your RB Blitz play sessions! See you on the Leaderboards!
This is good to hear. I'm interested in what they did with Synchrony other than increasing the 100-point bonus for switching on the measure break. I always like that powerup because it made total sense in the context of the play mechanic, but it was never worth it over the instrument doublers.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Translation: Shit, people aren't playing...how can we get them to play. Oh right! Let's fuck up the leaderboards some more by making some of the underused power ups give more points!

I know they aren't getting love around here, but I fucking LOVE 311. I have since I was 15 and that will never change. I'll be playing those tracks on Tuesday for sure... I've been requesting 311 DLC since day 1.

of 10/9 - Singles from Billy Squier & A Flock of Seagulls!
Hey gang,

In 1982, English New Wave band A Flock of Seagulls found worldwide success with their self-titled debut record. “I Ran (So Far Away),” a single from that album, became one of the band’s biggest hits, making its way to the Billboard Hot 100 and charts around the globe!

Rocker Billy Squier had a string of hits during the 80s, as well, two of which will make their way to the Rock Band Music Store next week: “The Stroke,” the debut single from 1981’s Don’t Say No and the opening track from 1982’s Emotions in Motion, “Everybody Wants You,” which held on to the top spot of Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock tracks for six weeks straight!

All three tracks will be available as singles on the Rock Band Music Store; a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass Upgrade will be available for “The Stroke.”

Additionally, Rock Band Blitz players who play any of these tracks will earn double coins for each play, as well as double coins for each time they play Billy Squier’s “Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You,” which was previously released on the Rock Band Music Store!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (October 9th, 2012):

• A Flock of Seagulls – “I Ran (So Far Away)” O
• Billy Squier – “The Stroke” X O
• Billy Squier – “Everybody Wants You” O

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system October 10th)

Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Nice DLC week. I will buy all three. (A three pack with Squier's "Big Beat" would've been great.) I used to love playing "I Ran" in Guitar Hero '80s and am really glad it finally made its way into RB.
