Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I think it's a lose-lose position. Either they do what they did and it's essentially a wasted week for the users or they update them with RB3 functionality then people with GD:RB cry foul.
It's just kind of baffling, though not necessarily unprecedented after the country retail disc, for example, eventually coming out as DLC.

Jesus, it's one week, people. Grow a short memory and wait until next Friday. It's got zero impact on anything important or real.
As for the tracks themselves, how much could they update for RB3? Green Day already has harmonies and pro drums. They don't really have keys, do they, beyond a song or two? And HMXHenry mentioned that pro guitar really is not a huge thing...so going back to massive support, at least for these tracks, wouldn't make sense. I'm fine with it, personally. They could probably stop pro guitar altogether and most people wouldn't care.
Finally, it's not a completely wasted week, at least to me. There's one new song here that most Green Day fans would buy. It keeps my average of about one song a week purchased going. (While I wish there were more songs for me to buy, I'm happy to even be getting anything. And a lot of what's been coming, when it's buyable, is stuff I really like.)

Right, so if there's all of those reasons to not update it, why bother to break it out? I can't speak for the reactions on the RB forums or twitter or any other media because I don't follow it any more. All I'm saying is that's it's a confusing release. Offering the whole bundle of GD songs for $15-$20 makes far more sense to me than just cherry-picking 4 tracks. That's all.

I won't pretend to be upset or anything, but if they're going to re-release all of the songs in the game as DLC, it'll be a whole lot more than one week. Spread out over what period of time, I have no idea, but...

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Pinata - I assume HMX is releasing old Green Day for a couple of reasons.
First of all, it's got to be a money/marketing grab. The new album hits next week, it's good cross promo, and it's a good chance to make some cash on some old songs.
Second, it's easy. The content is there and I assume it's music not everyone who plays Rock Band has. Contrary to popular belief, getting a copy of RBGD isn't exactly easy for people right about now. Isn't the game 2+ years old? So why not put a few of the hits out there when the time seems right?
Also, it doesn't hurt that HMX probably has a pretty good relationship with one of the biggest current bands around.
Is it confusing? Maybe...at least to Rock Band fans. But wouldn't long-time fans either have the content already or ignored it the first time around? Why should they care? As for people that missed out the first time or came late to the RB world (maybe even for Blitz) it's a good chance to get some of the most popular American rock music in the past few decades.
Honestly, I just don't know what the big deal is. More content is coming. I treat this week like I'd treat an Avenged Sevenfold week. I don't like what they are giving me but there's always a chance of something I like in seven days or seven days after that or seven days after that...
Adam - According to Henry, HMX won't be releasing the remaining GD songs over a number of weeks. This is how he explained it:
"The remaining GDRB songs will be released in one week NOT in one pack. Just wanted to highlight to make sure there wasn't any confusion. This isn't going to be some giant 40+ song GD pack."
So there will be one more GDRB pack with a small selection of songs...which means only one more week of RB fans storming the HMX castle with pitchforks and torches.

(Again, this doesn't bother me at all. I mean, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Boston's first album with keys and harmonies, so reissues don't bother me at all.)

Aaron was probably pretty flustered from the crazy-fan shitstorm after the GD announcement, so I'm not surprised he was all over in terms of his info.
Still, even if they do release the rest of the songs, it's not the end of the world. Of course I'd like new music only...but whatever happens happens.
And, as some of you guys mentioned, they should really get this done with The Beatles. Because it wouldn't be that hard, right? Heh.

I still haven't bought anything from the massive DLC sale even though I have dozens or more on a wishlist built over the years. I have enough points to buy 60 songs or so, but I can't even buy one song or one pack.
I think my issue is that there's a reason I never rushed out to buy these or redeem one of my one or two hundred Pepsi caps. I feel like that since I'm clearly not excited to buy any of them, I'd rather save it for more interesting content.
I'm struggling with this because it flies in the face of my initial reaction to the news. What all have you bought during this sale?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Well I purchased about 20 new songs I believe. I looked over the list several times and weeded down the ones I really wanted and ones I didn't want so much but still might be fun.
The best buy for me was the Boston stuff.
Picked up some odd Foo songs I liked, as well as some Iron Maiden, a Disturbed track, some Foreigner diddys, and a mix of other stuff that sounded interesting just to blow up the remaining points.

The sale was announced on the 17th I believe so today should be the last day given the one week offer.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Only albums so far:
Jimi - Are You Experienced
Jimi - Axis: Bold as Love
No Doubt - 1992-2003 - The Singles
Pixies - Doolittle
I'm poor so I typically don't buy stuff as it comes out, but I'll throw it on the wishlist and maybe grab something whenever I have the points.
Did they announce an end date for the sale? AFAIK, all they've been saying is the sale is good "while supplies last" which indicates to me at least that this is a permanent price drop. I would think that if it were a limited-time sale, they would want to let people know in order to squeeze as many sales out of that week as possible. And if it is a permanent drop, they don't want to announce it yet for the same reason.
And Major Nelson didn't put it on his little list thing, and he's usually pretty good about listing weekly promos. And he never lists permanent price drops of XBLA games, either--they just kind of quietly happen whenever.

I picked up
Are You Experienced?
Axis : Bold As Love
Green Day Pack 2
Liztomania - Phoenix.
I go back and forth on the Queen Pack. I know it's been improved, but that's a good price on a bunch of good songs I don't have yet. Maybe I should just grab the cheap versions now.

I've got the four Queen songs that didn't get RB3 versions (Tie Your Mother Down, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Another One Bites the Dust, and Fat Bottomed Girls), but I think I'm still gonna grab the Enhanced RB3 pack for the others, even at the full price. If I bought the original, old versions of those, it would always bug me knowing that there are better versions of them out there, even if I never took advantage of the things that made them better.

Where'd you find that goal list at, MWB? Not that I'm doubting you, but I didn't see it in RBWorld yet, and didn't see a thread about it on RB.com either.
Is there some secret to finding the goals early, or maybe some really intense RB:B community somewhere?

I ended up getting 28 songs:
http://myrockbandsongs.com/JMBLYA/songs/2012-09-23/
(There are 31 there, but that's because I realized a few songs were missing from my database and I added those, too.)
That pretty much covers the pre-RB3 songs on my wishlist that I really wanted. I may go back and get a few more, but I'm in no rush.

In a moment of last-minute panic/impulse buying I went and grabbed:
Bob Marley - Legend (One of my all-time favorite albums; guess I was waiting for a sale)
REM Pack 01 (one of my favorite bands -- amazingly, I never picked up a single song from this pack)
Queen Pack 01
Talking Heads - Take Me To The River
Alanis Morrisette - Head Over Feet & Ironic

I know not a lot of you still play Blitz, but this once again proves that HMX has no fucking clue how to test anything they do. Due to some interaction with their Rock Central servers and the facebook integration, the game will hard-lock after playing over 1000 songs.

As much as I love HMX's games, they must have the worst QA/testing team I've ever seen.
