Definitely in for Freeze Frame and Love Will Tear Us Apart. Could go either way with Grand Funk Railroad...

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Was wondering if anyone could help with 2 strange questions.

One of my 80gb PS3s YLOD'd on Monday, and upon re-downloading everything to a new slim, when booting up Rock Band 3, the total pack count that shows when loading up your DLC is off by 2 on the re-downloads unit (397 vs 399). The songs were all purchased on the same unit, so the pack total should match, which leads me to wonder if the way the songs are put into packs may have changed on a few (maybe because of Alex/Rock n' Roll Star? These two do show up for me in RB2, so I have downloaded them, but maybe they don't register on RB3 when re-downloaded after the decision to cut them?).

Also, I had my save file backed up an a USB stick, but when dropping it onto the new slim, only my characters seem to appear, none of my scores, nor stars accumulated. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help.

I'm down to just Hey Man Nice Shot now. I can get 4.75-4.8 stars on bass if I have an amazing run. I tried vocals early and I seriously got like 4.99999999 stars. There was just a sliver in there, but it didn't count. I can't get that close since.

Hopefully my buddy hops online soon so he can drum with me for a band 5*. I'll probably sing it because that way I won't mess up his unison bonuses ;) Although, if I do that he can take the pro bass which he's currently ranked #87 on. You can play a pro part online, right?

Are you sure it's not because of the soundgarden songs not being able to be played in RB3?

Nice. I knocked off "I Got You" this morning on guitar so now I'm down to just 4. Granted I'll never beat "Beast and the Harlot" but whatever. I even tried cheating a few songs by playing keys on the guitar but they were even harder than the damn guitar part :(

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Right!? I tried cheating the other way by playing bass or guitar on keys. Way tougher than it seems.

B&tH is insane all around. Good luck with it... I know there'll always be an asterisk next to my achievement, but I'm ok with that.

I'm pretty sure it's not that as it and the Chili Peppers song would just be excluded from the RB2 export pack, and blocked for inclusion into RB3 from the RB1 export. They'd still each count as 1 pack (RB1 & RB2 export). Thanks for the suggestion though, I had completely forgotten about those 2 from RB1 being blocked.

The amount of songs all match, as does everything as far as cross referencing them via each of the 25 or so sorting features, it's just the pack number that's off and it struck me as strange. Didn't want to compare two listings of 982 songs to make sure there weren't 2 flip/flopped if there was an easy answer to the pack totals.

the green day stuff if you have it is 2 shorter than the track list from the GD disc. They put two sets of songs together as one (like they should be) which reduces the track number.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I think you guys are missing the fundamental concept here.

PS3 #1 + RB3 said 399 "things" loaded.
PS3 #2 + RB3 said 397 "things" loaded.

Brooklyn says he got everything, so we have to trust that (;)). The question is: was there an RB3 update that changed how that is counted?

My understanding is: No - You missed something. It's counting files on the hard drive, be they individual songs or track packs. 1 "thing" = 1 file. 1 file may contain 1..N number of tracks. Sum of all tracks = RB3 library's reporting.

Do you remember what the count was on PS3 #1 + RB3's library total when you go to Quickplay to compare it with PS3 #2?

Finally. After singing that damn song like eight times in a row, I decided to try bass one more time. Nailed it. Achievement unlocked. Now, where's the nearest squier...

No contest. I only have about 18,300 and I'm not actively seeking it. Though I'm only through the Cs in my alphabetical playlist ;)

You do have the correct understanding of my question. My concern is that I am missing something on PS3 #2 as you suggest. I have 982 songs, so we cross referenced everything save for actually running down the list of all 982 (we had done this with the YLOD PS3 and PS3 #1 somewhat recently, very time consuming). We did by genre, difficulty, pro accessible, keys, song title starting letter... you name it, all of the sorting options matched.

When we 1st compared, PS3 #1 had 1 more 'thing' than PS3 #2 when the DLC was loading into RB3, but 9 fewer songs. Upon looking through the songs downloaded since doing the complete comparison with the YLOD unit, we saw that it was missing the Rock Band Free Pack #1 (the 9 Harmonix related songs from RB2 that didn't make the initial export). Installing this brought PS3 #1 to 982 songs (same as PS3 #2), but now 2 'things' more as far as DLC when loading it into RB3 as compared to PS3 #2. (PS3 #2 is the replacement for the YLOD unit, and the one I went through my download list in the PSN store to refill).

If the 982 had matched initially we'd never have noticed something might be off, but the way it panned out, it appeared as if both units may have been off (PS3 #1 having a few extra singles/Higher DLC 'thing' count, and PS3 #2 having an extra pack or two/Higher song count).

Sorry for the long-winded explanations :)

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Is it possible you had a duplicate before on the hard drive (I don't know how the PS3 organizes content) and RB3 was counting the duplicate in the loading, but when it was done the library correctly recognized it once.

For example having Track Pack #2 downloaded but having 1 or 2 of the singles contained within separately?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

While sorting by stars doesn't take fractions into account (as we discussed previously), the secondary sort is difficulty. So instead of playing alphabetically, I've just been playing the 0-star songs. The biggest problem with this now is that Imagine and The Only Time have shifted to the top and since they have no guitar parts, I have to skip them each time I pick it up.

I still have 400/741 songs unplayed on guitar, but at least I have 74 songs with gold stars. 10% is very satisfactory to me and I'm sure I could bump many of those with 5* up as well.

If the higher 'item' count were on the new PS3 that might be the case if it allows for it instead of just overwriting, but unfortunately it's the other way around.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Right, that's what I'm saying. It seems like on the first PS3 you had more things on the hard drive than were showing up in the library. Ultimately if you have everything you think you should have, you can't go wrong ;)

Do you, by chance, have any external library tracking like via www.myrockbandsongs.com or www.dlcquickplay.com or a personal list?

I used to use DLC quickplay, but it's long since out of date. I'm just going to have to suck it up and kill the hours going through the song lists of each unit to make sure/ Oh well, it's the only way to be really sure :)

Did you have the original Rock Band, then migrate to RB2 and then RB3? Maybe the missing files are related to that.

Yup. But the same export key was used on both, so I'd assume it ripped the songs the same way.

When I saw this thread bumped by Shag, my reaction was to post how much I love when he posts because he always brings teh awes0m3! This, however, is total horseshit.

It's one of those things, however, that I understand. Throwing 3,000 songs with the quick-scrolling, custom "table" all laid out and rendered pretty with on-the-fly album art, ratings, stars, scores, sorting, grouping, etc, etc, etc you just, at design time, have to set some seemingly-arbitrary limit for considerations like memory and efficiency.

Is the official RB+DLC+RBN even up to 3,000 yet? That's a ceiling that only the hardest of hardcore will hit and it sucks that it does. It is something they can easily patch (assuming the system can handle it).

private static final int MAX_LIBRARY_COUNT = 4000; // There, I fixed it. #HackySackAnyone?
