Re: Playstation Move Thread

I have been using the PS2 camera on my PS3. Will the Move controller work with the older camera or do I need to upgrade to the PS3 camera?

You need the PS Eye. It's included in the bundle and won't cost much more if you were planning on getting a controller and Sports Champions any way.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

I originally bought the Move Bundle at K-mart for $100, but using K-mart's ad I got BB to take $25 off the bundle, $10 off the price of the another controller, and I got Walmart to take $10 off the Charging Station. When I returned the bundle, the K-mart clerk said the $25 gaming coupon that came with the original purchase would still be good. That doesn't sound right. I also got a $10 coupon when I bought Start the Party, then ended up returning the game, so now I have $35 in gaming coupons. I doubt they'll work, but I'll give them a try on Sunday when they go into effect.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

Yeah, they'll work. It's a flaw in the Kmart system that I hope isn't exploited too much.

Good to know! I didn't plan on returning those things when I bought them at K-mart, but hell, if the coupons are still good....

Re: Playstation Move Thread

Picked up High Velocity Bowling last night to try out the Move option and wasn't completely impressed. I couldn't get any spin to register no matter how I threw it, hopefully that is fixed in a patch.

I went to K-Mart yesterday to see what they have to possibly buy in a few days and their selection was worse than poor.

Yeah. I tried it too. If you twist your wrist, you can add spin, but it sends the ball carreening off into the gutter. It's far from a 1:1 experience and pretty disappointing use of motion control.

My local Kmart had....wait for it.... one Move-enabled game. A single copy of Kung Fu Rider or whatever they call that crappy game. That's it. They did have the bundles and the controllers though. I went to Best Buy and picked up Sports Champions. Will try it out tonight and see if I need to get a second controller.

My K-Mart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us are all sold out of the starter bundles.

Did you ask at K-Mart or just look and see there weren't any? The reason I ask is that my K-Mart keeps them out of sight to help sales and they have sold all of one (to me) since release day.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

I just tried a little of Sports Champions. I kind of like it. The frisbee golf feels really accurate. The ping pong is pretty fun as well. It feels much more 1:1 than HV Bowling (and of course, much better than Wii Motion Plus). It's really sort of remarkable to make subtile changes in the angle of your wrist and immediately see them reflected on-screen. It's very cool. Calibration is pretty easy and quick as well.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

So I broke out the nav controller and popped in Heavy Rain. There's no question, this is the preferred way to play the game. Things that were really frustrating before like trying to move the left stick in a slow sweeping circle become much easier with the motion controller. Actions like opening doors and sorting through papers are much more closely mimicked with the controller -- Minority Report-style. That said, it's not always clear what they want you to do with the controller and this game is SO stressful anyway that I didn't want to play for too long. Also I had the same problem I have with Wii games -- being a lefty I point with my left hand and that relegates my right hand for navigation with feels unnatural. At least quick accurate navigation isn't as important in this game.
This is such an improvement in this game. When you're in sync with what it's asking you to do, it's a lot more immersive than before. Also, for better or worse, those jittery selection choices for decisions are WAY easier to pick correctly with the motion controller than the stick + X button. For me, that's a plus.
One thing I did find though is that with the motion controller, while the face buttons are all present, they're in different locations (arranged in a square, not a diamond), making you look down for confirmation before pressing the button you need to press. That may turn into a problem later for me.

Yeah, the manager looked in the back, and they were out.

Do you mean Brunswick Pro Bowling? I got this game yesterday. I had no problem putting spin on the ball, but I did find it difficult to throw the ball consistently fast. A few times I threw the ball 15-20 mph, but most of the time it was more like 6-10 mph. I thought I threw it the same way every time, but I guess not.

The coupons worked! I picked up Start the Party today for $5 plus tax. Is it worth $40? No, but maybe half that.

High Velocity Bowling is a different release than the Brunswick one. My understanding is the disc version of HVB is basically the download version plus all previously released add-ons.

Correct. HVB is a $10 PSN download game that's being released on disc with all the available DLC for $39.99. Yes, you read that right. Is there any reason to get ALL the DLC? No, unless you really need a huge choice of bowler avatars and bowling balls to pick from. My advice is to grab the base game and augment it with a couple of characters and/or ball packs via DLC, It really isn't a great motion-controlled game in either case.

I used a couple of my Kmart Coupons and snagged a second Move controller for $10. Man, that archery is cool using two controllers. It feels very realistic, even without the feeling of bow tension. What's baffling is that there doesn't seem to be a two-player mode that allows the two players to take turns using the two controllers -- either you each use one controller (lame) or you need four controllers ($$$). I get the need for four controllers in the gladiator game, but with archery, since the events are either timed or arrow-limited anyway, there's no reason you couldn't take turns to compile the best score, just like one does with darts. It's just weird, unless it was an option that I somehow missed.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

I think the patch for High Velocity to use with the Move controllers is only available to the Plus members. Correct me if I am wrong but I think that this is true.

Re: Playstation Move Thread

Yes, for now. I think the patch for everyone comes next Tuesday (or soon thereafter). I think HVB is preferrable with the Move over the DS3, but it's still pretty inelegant and much more Wii-like than anything in Sports Champions, that's for sure.

Does anyone know if Kmart is still offering gaming coupons when you pick up the Move gear?

Re: Playstation Move Thread

It did. You can use those coupons now to pick up extra controllers and such.

Remember, you really don't need a Nav controller. Especially if you still have a sixaxis. The nav is a little more comfortable to hold, but otherwise the sixaxis works just fine.

I read a review that stated HVB was BETTER with the Sixxaxis, and the move had issues with putting spin on the ball....

Re: Playstation Move Thread

Ok, so I tried out Eyepet, and while the Move functionality worked great, I couldn't get it to recognize me wiggling my fingers to try to get it to jump well. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Also the instructions say to set the camera so it's rotated all the way down. How the heck am I supposed to play with it if I'm right in front of a huge TV without going blind?

By wiggle your fingers it means wiggle the move at the top of the screen, or wiggle your fingers on the same hand as the controller. I'm pretty sure the camera won't pick up your fingers by themselves. Once i moved the move at the top of the screen it worked.
