But those forms of flight did not bestow Mario with cute raccoon ears and a big fluffy tail. And if we're talking full Tanooki suit and not just the leaf, he can turn into a freakin' statue! You just can't beat that.

So the battery life reviews are in. Pretty much what Nintendo said they are. 3 with heavy 3D effects turned on, about 8 with them turned off.

3 hours is so unbelievably disappointing. I know it's been said, but that is a real bummer.

Yeah, 3 hours is pretty bad. I remember when the first PSP came out, it was around 4 hours, and felt almost unusable at the time compared to the SP which was getting close to 20 hours. But eventually you get used to having to plug it in right after playing, or even worse, playing while tethered to the outlet, sound like that'll be the way the 3DS will be played.

Makes perfect sense!

3 hours is terrible. I'm pretty sure the 2nd gen. 3DS will improve on this so I'll wait until then. Hopefully the library of games will also be pretty decent by then too.

Can't wait until Netflix arrives. So how is the web browser? Will it be able to work with Flash?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

manicsounds, please post more impressions.

I decided on black so I canceled my order for the blue one. My interested for this went down a little big a few weeks ago, but the Japanese launch, and the one or two reviews I've read, have made me more excited about it than ever now. I have a feeling that this thing is going to be huge, as big if not bigger than the DS systems.

The appeal of this handheld has more to do with the excellent potential library and stronger processor/better visuals.

The 3D aspect is, imo, still pure novelty.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Yup, you need the card to do it, as long as you place it on a flat surface.
(which says a little about that guy in the video....)

The 3DS senses the position of the card with its 2 cameras, and there are multiple uses for it, and multiple games.

As for web browsing and the virtual console, they haven't started yet. In May for Japan.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

For those of you who currently own a DS and plan on getting the 3DS, you might want to hang on to your old system to play regular DS games.....

Playing DS Games on the 3DS is Troublesome

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I was going to keep my DS Lite anyway so I could play GBA games, but that's disheartening.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Seriously, the upscaling is NOT BAD. I've only been playing old DS games on my 3DS and the upscaling o the graphics have not been a problem at all.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

That is a complete non-issue. Not only can that be dealt with, but I haven't heard barely anything from the guys on other boards that have the Japanese systems.

I put my DSi and some games for it on eBay last night and sold it all in a matter of minutes. After a good bit of Amazon credit I had, and the money from that sale, getting the 3DS wont cost me a dime out of pocket. I can't wait to get mine!

Now I just have to decide which launch game or two I want to get. Hmmmmmmm...

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

There's nothing broken, what is it going to fix? According to the article, it works the way it's supposed to, either you upscale standard DS games which "smears" the game or you play them 1:1 (at the original resolution) taking up a fraction of the screen.

The few videos I've found of the up-scaled games doesn't look bad to me, but maybe it looks worse in person. It sounds like 1:1 would be the way to go if you don't mind the smaller screens, and as long as the text is still legible (I'm having flashbacks to the GBA Micro, the text was legible, but I wouldn't want to look at it very long).
