Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I have to say as much as I enjoy my Switch I find myself playing my 3DS more lately. I really wish Nintendo would get the Virtual Console going for Switch because between that and my backlog of 3DS games it's keeping me busy.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I bought a brand new 2DS XL off amazon. I open it today and it looks to be in brand new condition but has someone else's info on it and it's missing the SD card. That's a shitty thing about Nintendo not putting seals on their systems.

Seriously - I don't know when exactly or why they started with that. I clearly remember cutting through seals as recently as with the Zelda (old) 3DS XL.

They've not had seals for awhile now. My Wii U, Switch, and original 3DS didn't have seals.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

So my actual "new" 2DS XL arrived in the mail today. I picked up Hey! Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Chibi Robo: Zip Lash and then used some of my nintendo rewards points on a Pikmin theme and the Zelda Picross game.

I know the Pikmin & Chibi Robo games didn't get great reviews but they are two of my favorite Nintendo series and the Chibi Robo one was only $8. I've already put about an hour and a half into Pikmin and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Samus Returns is getting great reviews. I don't really want to buy a 3DS game these days though, put it on Switch!

Yeah, I was just reading a review. Might be worth dusting off the 3DS for this one.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I still play my 3DS quite a bit as it's still relatively new to me. I haven't really played a ton of Metroid in the past but have wanted to try and get into it more so I pre-ordered Samus Returns from Amazon. Looking forward to it!

Do you need a "new" 3DS to play Samus Returns, or will a regular (or XL) 3DS play it too?

I bought my first 3DS - a Samus edition 3DS XL - just to quench my thirst for Metroid. I'm looking forward to Friday.

Yeah that Metroid game looks awesome. Can't wait for it. First 3DS game I'm excited about for years.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Best Buy shipped out both the game and the 3DS console (my first Nintendo portable as well) yesterday. In anticipation, I've also ordered and received other games:

Hey, Pikmin! (I know it gets bad reviews, but I'm a sucker for Pikmin. If anything, it will make me want a Pikmin 4 on Switch even more.)
Kirby: Planet Robobot and Triple Deluxe
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time and Triforce Heroes
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Super Mario 3D Land
Yoshi's New Island

Any other games that might be up my alley? I love Yoshi's Wolly World on Wii U, but it doesn't seem like there's a substantial difference in the more recent 3DS version, so I'm passing.

A lot of people were griping about Nintendo's decision to put Samus Returns on 3DS, but in this case, look what they got me to buy. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

I'm a little worried. I thought I heard rumors that alot of modes in the game actually require Amibo's to unlock. Any truth to that?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I found this article. Looks like it unlocks a few helpful bonuses and an additional hard mode, that's all.

You need four amiibo to get everything Metroid: Samus Returns has to offer

UPDATE: Standard hard mode accessible to all, as well as harder amiibo mode.

By Tom Phillips Published 08/08/2017

UPDATE 8/8/17 1.50pm: Metroid: Samus Returns will include a hard mode accessible without the need for amiibo - separate to the one unlocked using the "squidgy" Metroid figurine.

Nintendo shared the news with our friends across the ocean at USGamer. It makes the whole amiibo situation seem a little fairer - although you'll still be missing out on some fun extras without the game's four compatible figurines.

So, to be clear, there are two hard modes in the game. Hard mode, which will unlock normally after you complete Samus Returns, and then Fusion Mode, which is even harder and grants Samus' Metroid Fusion suit. The latter is the one you need amiibo for.

ORIGINAL STORY 8/8/17 1.50pm: There's a bunch of cool extras to unlock in Metroid: Samus Returns - but you'll only get them if you have four Metroid-themed amiibo.

The 3DS remake of Metroid 2 will launch alongside two new Metroid amiibo figurines - one for Samus, one of a Metroid - and will also be compatible with the two existing Smash Bros. amiibo figures for Samus and Zero Suit Samus.

Each of these four will give you something extra in Metroid: Samus Returns, and a Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed to Eurogamer that "this unlockable content is only unlocked using amiibo".
1

Left, the new Samus Returns' amiibo. Right, the two older Smash Bros. series figures.

First off, the new Samus Aran amiibo which will launch with Samus Returns. This figurine of a crouched Samus will unlock an extra energy tank for you to use. After completing the game you'll be able to unlock exclusive Metroid 2 art in an art gallery.

Next, the new "squidgy" Metroid amiibo. This will let you reveal the location of any nearby Metroid on your map - something which sounds pretty handy. After completing the game you can also unlock a new difficulty mode, "Fusion", and where Samus' suit from the Metroid Fusion game.

Then the Smash Bros. amiibo. Samus will unlock a missile tank and after completing the game snag you exclusive concept art for your gallery. Zero Suit Samus will unlock another energy tank and after completing the game let you listen to Samus Returns' soundtrack of background music via a special mode.

These are great additions, although galleries of concept art and a sound test mode have been included in past games without the need for extra amiibo.

So, if you wanted everything Metroid: Samus Returns has to offer, how much would you need to fork out? Best case scenario, each Metroid-themed amiibo costs 10.99. Quadruple that and you're looking at spending 44 - effectively the same price as the game itself.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Pretty pumped. My limited edition of metroid samus returns arrived yesterday from Best Buy. Couple days ahead of release. Started a little last night.

2D Metroidvanias are probably my favorite genre so looking forward to this.

With so much new in the game, I wonder why they billed this as a remake of Metroid II and not simply a new game. Or why not simply go all new.

They billed it as a remake because that's what it is. They add new stuff to remakes all the time and it's still a remake.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I wish they let you use the D-pad to control in this new Metroid. I swear, I can only crouch about 25% of the time I try to crouch - forcing me to use that circle nub is a shit design choice, and one I don't think I can get past.

I haven't started it but that is a really odd design choice.
