Re: Alan Wake
It was just 50% off a couple months ago during that week long sale they were having. If you don't mind waiting I would recommend that, but I didn't think either of the DLC chapters were better than the first six in the full game.

Re: Alan Wake
The second DLC was my least favorite chapter. I wouldn't recommend it at 560 points. I got it when it was half off and didn't feel satisfied with it even at that price.

Word on the street, or rather on job listing site Gamasutra, is that Remedy’s hiring for a new Xbox 360 title. According to the listing, the Finland-based studio is currently looking to hire a Lead Level Designer to join its “AAA console team” on a new “Xbox 360” title. The listing suggests that the game will have a heavy focus on “compelling narrative and intense action” and that applicants should be well-versed in “drama and storytelling”. While it’s hardly confirmation, the bet would be on a sequel to 2010’s Alan Wake, which was also an Xbox 360 exclusive. Though the game saw lackluster sales during its first two weeks, selling only 145,000 units according to NPD Group, one of the game’s writers Mikko Rautalahti previously stated that the story is “bigger than one game” and that the sequel (if made) would be both “weird and wonderful”. The psychological thriller sees players step into the shoes of author Alan Wake, as he desperately try’s to save his wife from the mysterious darkness that’s engulfing the small town of Bright Falls, where the couple are vacationing. The game combines intense action, intuitive gameplay and compelling storytelling, with the player’s primary weapon being light. In addition to the above, the April issue of OXM’s (Official Xbox Magazine) rumor section is carrying the following intriguing statement in quotation marks: “Yes or no for Alan Wake 2? We shook The Ball and it said, “It looks promising”. Last month at GDC Remedy’s Markus Maki stated that while Alan Wake’s exclusivity to Microsoft’s platform was a “business risk” it was also one that helped the developer stay focused. |
Re: Alan Wake
Hope so. Fantastic game.

Re: Alan Wake
This game has been on my mind since I finished it last summer and I still haven't even played any of the DLC's due to life getting in the way a lot recently but hopefully things are settling down for me and I will soon be able to play the expansion episodes.
While not the greatest in terms of game play and control...the atmosphere in this game is in a league of its own. I even enjoyed watching those mini made for tv clips....I would definitely welcome a sequel and funny how that news sprung shortly after Rockstar games updated their site with new Max Payne screens. |
Re: Alan Wake
The game ended up moving more than a million copies when it was all said and done......and you have to figure there is another 500,000 plus people who played 1 as a rental or used, and maybe another 500,000 units before 2 comes out...that is 2 million potential customers week one, and the budget will be a lot smaller this time..the only problem I have is....
I almost wish it was a different character/story...after playing both expansions, I feel the character of Alan Wake is played out..maybe this one can be a story written by Alan Wake with his voice over... |
Re: Alan Wake
^^ I'm with you. I actually didn't like Alan too much; quite the whiny bitch.
PS - did he ever save his wife (and yes, I played both dlc packs)? |
Re: Alan Wake
He isn't real. He's a construct of Zane's.

Re: Alan Wake
So I was shopping at a local K-mart just the other day for the usual bathroom necessity BS when I decided to swing by their video game section and noticed alan wake was $25.00 - I bought it and to my surprise upon opening it when getting home...there was a free redeemable code for the signal included - Very cool.
I definitely would have paid full price for this had I not beaten it during a weekend rental. |
Re: Alan Wake
Uhhh, wasn't the first chapter of DLC free for everyone that bought the game new?

Re: Alan Wake
I just got the CE edition of this game. I heard it was a good CE, and I had Goozex points to burn - I was surprised someone actually sent it to me.
Anyway - should I read the book first? Does it spoil, or does it help fill in the setting? Should I explore the bonus disk or wait till I finish the game (is there even anything interesting on the bonus disk?) |
Re: Alan Wake
My recollection is that the book has some spoilers. I don't have it anymore to verify. There's a fairly interesting feature on the bonus disk that installs a commentary track to your hard drive and then becomes an option you can turn on/off when playing the main game. Definitely don't turn it on for your first play through though.

Re: Alan Wake
Don't read the book until you beat the game; it has spoilers on who lives and dies. You should be safe reading Wake's short stories, however. Wake is a terrible writer, but one of the stories dovetails nicely with the beginning of the game.
During my third playthrough I turned the commentary track on. It was pretty bland... there was nothing particularly enlightening or funny. It was mostly stuff like "Wake is coming up on this area. We wanted to take away his weapons to change the pace of the game a bit. We think it worked really well." |
Re: Alan Wake
The Signal was pretty good......had the best boss battle so to speak
Spoiler:
Pros: Loved where you end up right before battling the Spoiler:
Cons: One huge one....WAYYYYY too damn much repetitive fighting..to the point where I felt it was like a cheap shot. All in all, it made love the game even more though. Next up is the writer and from I read....it's more my style. |
Re: Alan Wake
Finished The Writer last night in one sitting.....Better than the signal but I can see how many would hate that last fight(s) at the end.
The "wheel" maze was seriously one of the coolest things I've done in a video game and I loved the use of the barrels & lighthouse. I definitely want more now though -- that ending was left wide open. I really wish they would have allowed for playback of the night springs tv shows in the extras menus as well. I may even go back to some levels to check things out again. |
Re: Alan Wake
Glad you found things to enjoy in both expansions.
This is a game I can definitely see myself going back to play through several more times, just for the pure enjoyment of it, even though I've already been through 3 times and got 100% of everything. |
Re: Alan Wake
So, looks like more Alan Wake is coming, but it's not a sequel and it's not DLC.
