Spoiler:
I was watching the tv, and sorta of thought that something went by the window, what confirmed it was that I saw the leaves on the bush falling. Thought for a second that the wind was blowing the leaves off, but then when I went outside to check I noticed the leaves only came off when I walked through it. Then I started getting really spooked. Love moments like this. Especially when they don't try to have something jump out immediately.

I just finished the game. What an awesome story. I'm not sure I like the ending -- I wanted
Spoiler:
Alan and Alice to get a happy ending.

I can't wait for the sequel (which, given the developer's track record, I will expect some time between 2016 and the heat death of the universe.)

They are doing DLC episodes. They have two already in the queue.

So...how long is the average game in terms of hours logged?

10-15 hours.

Re: Alan Wake

I've been playing through this the past week. I put the setting on Hard and frankly hadn't found it too challenging. Plus evertyhing felt a lot like 'going through the motions'. However, after I finished Chapter 3 I felt like things picked up a lot. The enemy situations became more difficult, but in a good way. Much more fun to figure your way out of a dilema. Plus the story has picked up a considerable amount as well.

Some of the levels are much more inspired now that you're in the river valley as well. You really get a sense of scale and how much went into creating the world.

Hopefully I can finish up Chapter 6 tonight. If not I'll get to it at some point over the weekend.

You can finish it in less than 10 hours if you rush through it but then you will miss most of the story. :p

So yeah, as JasonF said, 10-15 hours. This game really rewards you if you take your time with it. Although if you get scared you may want to run in some parts. ;)

For the people that already finished the game, they released a novel about the game. It's suppose to be the game story in a novel. I already bought it but haven't had time to start reading it. I'm in the middle of the other book, the one included in the LE, pretty interesting.

New teaser trailer for something released. More details @ E3 next week I imagine.

Re: Alan Wake

I finally got around to finishing this up yesterday. I think the game peaked for me at chapters 4 and 5. Chapter 6 felt too over the top, but then again I suppose that fits in with the story. As for the ending:

Spoiler:
I'm not sure I get it either, but my thought was that he rewrote the ending to save Alice, but it somehow cost him his own life or self. Didn't the light in the diving suit say something about, "Don't mind him. He'll replace you to all of your friends." Maybe a fake proxy of sorts?

Based on that short teaser perhaps in the sequel (or will it just be DLC?) Alan will have to work his way through this other world to get himself free? I wouldn't mind if you were playing Alice to try and find him, but I suppose you have to stick with playing Alan.

One point throughout the game I was confused about was everything said 1970 and that was the year the volcano went off and sunk the cabin. For a while I was thinking the story was actually the other writer in the 70s and 'Alan Wake' was just made up. However, everybody was driving around Fords with Verizon billboards which represent present day.

Spoiler:
there is some speculation - i do not recall where i read it - that tom zane is alan's father. alan never knew his father, and the "clicker" was a gift from his mom previously belonging to his father. tom apparently wrote about the clicker in his novelization. also alan is called "tom" in the diner near the start of the game.

Anyone notice the Tags in Alan Wake? Anyone decode them?

I did not notice them, but I did decode them.

I saw one, but I'm not sure my phone is even capable of decoding tags.

I saw them, didn't decode as my phone doesn't do tags. But I'll try it on my next replay once my Incredible arrives.

I was gonna get this at Gamestop but the manager there said it was 5 hours long.

5 hours? I don't think that's possible. 10-15 would be a more realistic estimate. Still, might be a better rental than a purchase if you don't expect to play through it more than once.

I'm not so sure. I mean that info did come from Gamestop. They actually sell video games, I would think they'd know. A manager even!

Just can't get into this game. I'm 1/2 way through chapter 5 but it is becoming more of a chore to finish it.

You have to finish it up now! You're almost there!

I finished this up last night. I really enjoyed the game but I need to watch the ending again. I was half-asleep while I was watching it.

I did start Playthrough #2 - Nightmare difficulty with the Limited Edition developer commentary turned on.

Meh.

Best way I can describe my feelings for this game.

For those that finished the game, we put out a podcast episode all about Alan Wake. (HERE) (SPOILERS!) We'd love to hear everyone else's take on the end game.

Re: Alan Wake

I'm late to the party, but I just finished. I thought it was good, I'd put it in the tier below what I would consider the GotY contenders (Mass Effect 2, RDR, God of War III)

I wouldn't call the game scary, but there were some tense moments.

I loved the episodic format, mostly because a few hours is the most you could play in one sitting before starting to get bored of running around the forest.

I haven't decided if I want to try and play through on Nightmare to get the rest of the manuscript pages.
