Re: Alan Wake

My buddy said that when he played, he could resume a chapter at the last checkpoint. I didn't try that when I played because I heard it didn't work. YMMV.

Re: Alan Wake

Yeah, you restart from the last checkpoint. No need to play through an entire chapter in one sittting.

Awesome, thanks

Re: Alan Wake

Looking back on this game it really was one of the top 5 games of the year...the only problem I had with it was how quickly Alan would get tired....they should have at least had him smoking all the time to explain it, especially since he seems very fit. Anyone else notice this?

Sprinting through the entire game would have made it far too easy. As it is, you have to budget out your sprint time, which adds to the tension. I assume the other option in the design process was a compromise with no tiredness but also no temporary fast sprint speed, which would be worse IMO.

Re: Alan Wake

Yeah, I thought they did it just to make it more tense. I'm playing through on hard, so there have been a couple times I tried to run around and regroup when he would run out of gas.

Run away, instead of around.

Don't forget to turn around and stun them periodically.

How awesome would it have been to make Alan Wake the personal trainer in a Kinect fitness games? "Okay, let's do squats now! One, two.... (puff, puff). Okay, that's enough!"

Finished Episode 2 last night! Didn’t really care for the driving segment back to the cabin and I thought the birds “boss” was a weak ending for the episode, but everything else was great. Can’t wait to start the next episode tonight.

Played through episode 4 this morning. Loved defending the rock stage part.

So I played through Special 2: The Writer tonight after a long hiatus and it was fantastic to return to this world. I really hope there's a pre/sequel.

Also, I started lamenting on Twitter about the lack of Old Gods of Asgard or Poets of the Fall love in Rock Band. Little did I realize I had missed this release in late July during the big push to clear out the RBN1.0 queue before the upgrades happened!

No, it's not from the game itself but that band is featured and they're the ones that actually recorded the OGoA songs. Plus, it's pretty cool so I bought it.

$2, if you're interested: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/ga...0-000045410869

I finally got around to playing this game, and just finished episode 4. Loved that part too. I really, really like this game. I shouldn't have waited so long to play it.

Re: Alan Wake

Finished this one today. Overall, I thought it was a great game. Definitely on my top 5 of 2010. I think the game had a little too much run and gun in some of the chapters and it could have gone without the car sequences. I think that took you out of the creepy environment, which was the best part of the game. Not knowing what or when you were going to face or where the next save haven was going to be.

I still have the two DLC chapters to go through. About how long are each of those?

Re: Alan Wake

I found the DLC chapters to be shorter than the ones in the main story. Less than an hour each.

They really do not add much to the game. This is kind of like watching a really good movie and then being subjected to a couple of sequels that never should have seen the light of day. Alan Wake is a great game....stop there and go no further IMO. The add-ons are a drag on what otherwise is a great game.

Re: Alan Wake

I finished the two DLC chapters and was pretty under whelmed. I really think they should have just stuck with the original six chapters and hoped it was good enough to warrant a sequel. Overall, I think the game was a solid 8/10. I think this is one of those games that I'll play through again in a couple years.

BTW, I know the game didn't sell very well, but any talk on a sequel yet?

Re: Alan Wake

I'm trying to finish the 1000 for the main game--I only have four achievements left (the two Nightmare ones, Gunless Wonder, and Idyllic Small Town). Tried to get Gunless Wonder (don't fire a single shot on the final level) on Nightmare to save time... got about 3/4 of the way into it, past the spotlight... then you have to run up the big hill while train cars and boats and stuff crash down from the sky. I was out of flares and flash bangs, and, yeah, that wasn't happening. I would get about halfway there using normal Nightmare tactics and then get swarmed.

Guess I'll have to play through that level for a fourth time. Sigh.

I'm going to put the game aside for awhile after I get 1000. I don't even want to think about the no-death playthrough of both DLC specials.

And I completely disagree with this paragraph. I haven't played The Writer yet, but I really enjoyed The Signal and felt it added more to the mind of Alan.

Woohoo, 1000 G. I should have just done it that way from the beginning. Normal is sooo much easier than Nightmare.

They're really not that tough. While you may not get them on your first run, you'll quickly learn what to do (and not to do) when you try again.

I loved them both. Of course I didn't jump right from the game into the dlc so I could see how someone might be overwhelmed by the saminess of the gameplay coupled with the drastic shift in narrative.

If you legitimately hate the dlc, I think you approached it the wrong way. Also you suck and I hate you.

Re: Alan Wake

Finally finished the game (and the first DLC). It was pretty fun, but I don't think I'd revisit those episodes again. I loved the creepy atmosphere, though.

The second DLC is 560 points right now. Is that the normal price? Does it ever go on sale? Or is it completely worth it to purchase right now so I can play through it?
