Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Fantastic news about the cloud saving. Now there's no real need to worry about losing my copy-protected saves if my PS3 dies. Granted, this wouldn't be such a pain in the ass if I could just take the old hard drive and put it in a new PS3 without it formatting, but whatever...

What does the copy protection actually do? Is there any encryption in the files that prevent them being used on a different console?

Anyone having problems signing into PSN? I was trying at lunch and it kept coming up with an error.
***edit*** nevermind, I just read somewhere that PSN is down for a while today. |

Stupid me. I updated the firmware tonight and couldn't for the life of me see where the Cloud Saving part was. It turns out that Version 3.56 is voluntary firmware that I downloaded, and Version 3.6 isn't out until tomorrow, bah...

Very happy about the cloud save. PS+ is really the gift that keeps on giving.

Man, I don't like how they are forcing you too keep paying for PS+ if you want continued access to your cloud saves. I could see not being allowed to save any more once your subscription lapses, but you should still have access to the ones you paid for. That's a really shady tactic.

People are acting like if they quit ps+ it will delete all their local saves too. Its the same argument people had about the free ps+ games, that argument didnt hold water either. You are paying for a service. No company on earth is going to allow you to keep using the perks of said service if you stop paying them Not shady in the slightest bit Sorry but Sony adds a nice optional perk for the paying members and someone always has to complain. Its kind of annoying |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
I tried out the Online Storage for saves. You have to upload save files manually and individually. I wish they would add a way to upload multiple saves at once, but they have never done this for USB flash/HDD so I don't expect that to change. Uploading is slow, but that might just be my connection which is only 512kbps for uploading.
BTW, apparently it doesn't work for Minis because I don't see the OS option there. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
I tried it as well. Wasn't too slow for me. It's actually a pretty nice feature. I also wish you could pick "Copy All", but this is do-able. Also wish you could have some sort of dynamic back up to the cloud. In any case, it's nice to know that all my game saves will be safe in case my Pinto suddenly explodes.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
So is there a list of non-transferable saves out there, so we can prioritize?

No its not. It is a perk of ps+ why do you think you should be able to use it in any capacity after you cancel?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Although you backup your saves to the cloud system you should leave the original save on your PS3. The only time you really should have to download the backed up save is in case of a system failure or a system swap. Also, has anyone even tried to see if you can download your protected saves to a different system than the one you uploaded them from?

The saves are still managed by the games locally, as they always have. This new feature just allows you to back them up to online storage, in the same fashion as you can to a USB flash or hard drive, except that copy protected saves are also transferable. |

Eric do you understand the definition of "backup"? I assume not a copy or duplicate version, especially of a file, program, or entire computer system, retained for use in the event that the original is in some way rendered unusable. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
There's not even an option to transfer your game saves to the cloud, only one to copy them there. I suppose you could transfer to the cloud, then separately delete your local game saves, but that would be very idiotic and entirely your fault. You can't play games off the online storage game saves, you can only re-download them to your PS3 (and only once per 24 hours for most games for some odd reason, BTW)

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
The only drawback, imo, is that it isn't automatic. But since it was patched in later, I can understand. The next gen hardware better have this option across the board.

Eric do you understand the definition of "backup"? I assume not You are NOT saving everything to the cloud only. you are backing them up in the case of your system dying. Now I would appreciate you controlling your vitriol when it was your misunderstanding of the service, not mine |
