Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Europe is getting the Prince of Persia Trilogy in HD

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones bundled together in high-definition on a single Blu-ray disc, all for a decent price -- doesn't that sound like something North America could get behind? I thought so too.

As it stands, though, Europe is getting Prince of Persia Trilogy, not us. This PlayStation 3 compilation will be available on November 19 for £29.99, and yes, it's even got eye-popping stereoscopic 3D. I know that's the one feature you were most concerned about.

You might want to take a page from Nick and import this one. That seems like a reasonable thing to do.

Yes. PS3 games are not region locked.

Oddworld! Sweet.

Anyone else find that Hulu Plus on the PS3 has the worst buffer of all time? I have to let it sit paused for the longest time just to ensure it doesn't stutter.

I remember playing Abe's Oddysee, I just don't remember much else about it. But, free is free.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

My fat PS3 is no longer reading discs after three years of working flawlessly.

Since I have no warranty, should I send this back to Sony for a fix (anyone know how much it would cost? Would I just get a refurbished PS3?) or should I sell this broken as is for whatever I can get and put that money towards the slim PS3?

And if I go the slim route, are there any potential problems I should be aware of? I know it's sorta on an individual basis when it comes to these things, but if there are common slim problems, I'd like to know.

Thanks.

don't send it back to Sony ... it will cost you approx $150 and you will get a refurb back with crap for a warranty ... in other words you will get a ticking time bomb back in exchange

suck it up and buy the Slim, pay with a credit card that will match Sony's 1 year warranty for a second year and buy a cheap SquareTrade warranty to cover the 3rd year

too early to know if there are any long term known problems with the Slim (no short term issues to speak of) but Sony really seemed to develop those early (phat) models to have a life span of around 3 years and it is a travasty they haven't fessed up to the shoddy workmanship with a greater mfg warranty

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Thanks for the advice.

Is it simple/easy to go the SquareTrade route for a third year? Never done that.

And how do you go about matching the Sony 1 yr warrant to get a second year?

And lastly, what about bypassing the Sony warranty to pay an extra $59 for a 2 yr Best Buy warranty? Good/bad idea?

SquareTrade's has a 3 year warranty for under $40
thing is this warranty like most others take effect not after the mfg warranty (which in this case is 1 year) but from date of purchase .... so for the first year you will have Sony's mfg warranty and the first year of the ST warranty

like I said most cc companies match the mfg warranty for another year so in effect your cc company you charge the console on will cover the second year which again will overlap with ST coverage for year 2

year 3 is where you will have the lone coverage from ST ... and probably the best time to have the coverage

here is an example of Amex's extended warranty coverage
Extend Your Warranty - Extended Warranty will extend the terms of the original U.S. manufacturer's warranty for up to one additional year on eligible purchases with warranties of 5 years or less, when the purchase is charged to the Card.
https://www212.americanexpress.com/d...tbenefitdetail

buying a 2 year warranty from BB is likely throwing away your money because in all likelihood as I mentioned you are paying for the first year which Sony is already covering and the second year which your cc company should cover

I believe you can use code "TWTYOFF" at ST to get an additional 20% off through the 18th
with the following terms
*Coupon offer is not available for items purchased on Amazon.com, Buy.com, Crutchfield, Abt Electronics, Vann s Inc and Woot.com. Warranties must be purchased within 90 days of item purchase date, except for warranties with ADH coverage and warranties for items bought on eBay, which are 30 days. Coupon may not be combined with any other offer. Coupon cannot be applied retroactively to past purchases.

I get mine at costco, lifetime waranty (I have heard not all costco offer this though).

Also, if you buy the slim while you still have the fat, you can do a system transfer and you won't lose anything.

Thanks guys. I'll call my CC company and see what they say about the warranty issue.

Redbill--with your Costco warranty, do they repair your damaged PS3 or swap out your broken one with a brand new system?

And do they offer the $299 system or just the $399?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

at costco you return it broken and get your money back, and just buy a new one. Their stock varies, last time I was there, they had the $299. They may have a Move bundle by now.

What I don't know, is if you become a member for 1-year ($50) when you buy it, if you can return it in 3 years if you don't renew.

Costco has a open door return policy, no time limit, no receipt, no problems.

a receipt does help though. since their bundles change often, and if you dont have the packaging it can be a pain for them to recognize what it actually is you're returning. And you will need everything that came with the package, so if it comes bundled with a game, dont sell it.

Technically, it's not a warranty, but a lifetime return policy that all Costco stores have. The distinction here is that, if 3 years down the road your PS3 breaks and Costco no longer carries the PS3, they'll happily give you your money back, but you won't have repair options like you would with a warranty.

That said, if I were to buy another PS3 I'd definitely buy it at Costco, just to have the return option.

PacMan2006 - if you're otherwise happy with your phatty, you also have the option of replacing the laser yourself. For a ~$50 ebay purchase and a little elbow grease, you can be back in business.

I thought I'd read that they'd put a time limit on electronics returns due to people abusing it. Does that not apply to game systems?

The 90-day return policy applies only to televisions, projectors, computers, cameras and camcorders, mp3 players and cell phones. However, for those items they extend the manufacturer's warranty an additional year.

The lifetime return policy applies to all other products, including video game systems.

Hmm...now I don't know. I just called one Costco store and she said they don't have lifetime warranty's for anything, except maybe the big electronic products. She said a PS3 would have a 90 warranty/return policy.

Update: Called a second Costco...he said there's not a lifetime return policy, but that there's sort of a undetermined amount of time that you can return it without any hassle should anything go wrong with it. He was vague about it, saying you couldn't return it 5 years from now, but that it's an open policy for, I guess, the foreseeable future. Just not forever. Or something.

I still have my YLOD 60GB after replacing it with a 250GB Slim months ago. Still not sure what I'm gonna do with the dead unit...

PS1s (laser problem, have to play with the machine upside-down) and PS2s (laser problem, won't play CD-based games after a while) both had problems right after the original warranty expired, and I don't think they ever really fessed up to the PS1 problems, only silently replacing the PS2s. Not as widespread as RROD, I guess, but as a launch owner of all three PS consoles, I fell victim to the PS1 and PS2 problems and am anticipating my phat dying any day now.

Just found my costco shipping invoice, 11/17/2006 for 700 bucks with Genji, almost four years now. They'll really take it back?

Do I have this right?

To download demos I have to leave my PS3 on, doing nothing? Cause every time I play a game and let it download, Ill check the percent after and it hasn't moved!! Other times I'll get a prompt that it finished, most of the time though, there's no activity.

With that Costco info I might just get a 360 for the exclusives.

I cant speak to the online costco. But I've returned things 3+ years after I bought (Harmony remote w/ broken button). And I returned a busted PS3fat 2.5 years later and made $300 on the return and rebuy, because of price drops.

I think it can download in the background if you're watching a DVD.
