That's in the first two years. I bought a two year extended warranty from Overstock with mine in 11/06. It RRoD'ed in 12/08.

Why do you think that? Because anecdotally yours is still ok for now? My Blu-ray drive failed just over the two year mark. It doesn't take much googling to see that two hardware failures (YLOD and BD drive failure) for systems in the 1 to 3 year age range are occurring at an unacceptably high rate. I don't think it's near the level of the XBox, but it's at least at the level of "these known manufacturer problems should be repaired for free."

100% Agreed. 300 dollars for repairs on two 600 dollar models within a 12 month period is unacceptable to me.

I'm happy I spent the extra 40 bucks or whatever for the extended Walmart warranty. Peace of mind.

The extended warranty for the 60s were a hundred bucks and they didn't help as both broke just after two years of service. Now the warranty would cost half of that and likely for longer than one extra year.

Thanks for the graph Decker. But I was looking more into information between the different PS3 models.

I know that the 60 GB BC is the oldest, and from comments everywhere, most of the fails start after the two years, so the number are going to be more towards them.

I think I got my 40 GB PS3 in December 2007, so it's already 2 years old.

Wonder how the 20gbs are holding up.

No problems with mine yet. I bought it a few months after launch.

Can someone start a poll on people with launch PS3 failures? I'd be curious what the numbers will be.

Mine went out around August of last year. I would assume it's the same susceptibility as the 60GB, but of course there are fewer reports because there are fewer 20GB systems.

I tried to post such a poll at blu-ray.com figuring they probably had a large sampling of PS3 owners and it was promptly deleted by a moderator.

They don't like anything negative being said about the PS3 or its big releases.

In the Heavy Rain thread the mods deleted posts asking about the QTE and threatened posters to not ever bring it up. And it wasn't even complaints. People were just asking if the action sequences were solely QTE or not.

Wow, that's fucking ridiculous.

What was really ridiculous was the mods explanation. They said they didn't want people asking because it wasn't QTE. Really? Then what the fuck is it?

Two new models of the Sony PS3 slim pass through the FCC

Sony may try to hide behind its shell company, Sand Dollar Enterprise, but those game savvy FCC equipment authorization miners know better. Spotted at the FCC and receiving approval for its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth frequencies are two new models of the Sony PS3 Slim, identified only by the designation CECH-2101A and CECH-2102B. The two models can be differentiated by their HDD type and, from what we can glean from the FCC documentation, are otherwise the same as the current PS3 Slim that you can pick up at your local Gamestop. Sony has not hinted at a new or updated PS3 console so speculation is running rampant with rumors that range from the not so exciting suggestion that this is a mere internal wireless component change to lower production cost to the exciting suggestion that this is new PS3 hardware whose novel specifications and feature list has yet to be uncovered. Knowing that Sony just refreshed the PS3 with its introduction of the Slim model in 2009, we expect the former but desperately hope for the latter, how about you?

Weird - I wonder why they're so sensitive. The actual official Sony PS3 boards aren't even that bad.

Sorry for asking here but the Heavy Rain thread here is full of spoilers. :D

So I know it came out a few weeks ago, but I just got around to playing it. If anyone is thinking of picking up White Knight Chronicles, don't. What a terrible game... bland character designs, a crappy MMORPG-like fighting interface, a ton of grinding, and a lame Phantasy Star Online-like online play feature that seems shoehorned in. Granted, I'm still relatively early on in the game, but I just don't see any redeeming qualities here. And it's not like I'm really picky with my JRPGs.

That's a shame. It's been on my radar for a little bit, but I decided til it dropped in price to pick it up. At this point, if it's really not that good, I won't pick it up, and I'll just stick with my Demon's Souls.

Thanks for the quick review.

Based on the demo, yes. The action sequences are pure QTE. But they have some exploration and dialogue trees (presented in an assumptive form) to mix things up. But any action sequence is a QTE-fest.

But they're different than most QTEs you're used to. They're more difficult and involved than the usual "press X button" variety than what you usually see.

Yeah. You wiggle the controller in some instances, or keep a series of buttons pressed while you tap or press another, or do a Street Fighter-esque stick motions. It's still just another form of QTE so color me unimpressed.

It's the scenario and story progression that has me intruiged. The gameplay mechanics are rather meh.

Yeah, I've played the demo.

I meant, is the full game just QTEs? Besides walking and using your goggles.

You got me there, Raul3. My experience has yet to go beyond the demo.
