I agree with the people that do pay, they're getting fucked by only getting 2x what they lost.
Whereas people like me are getting an infinite benefit ALL WHILE never paying Sony a dime.
It's really lop-sided and, frankly, unfair.

Some people will say it's the point of the matter, which it isn't really. Do you think that extra month is going to get sony to make sure this happens any less than now? As it is now the fines they are likely going to have to pay to the attorney generals of various states for not encrypting some data will hit pretty high and it's already stated that this could cost sony billions as it is. It's not like they are getting out of this unscathed. They are well aware that this is never to happen again, or it could possibly ruin them. People can forgive once, but twice is just incompetence.
I just want this to not happen again, I care not for compensation, I just want them to learn from this and know that they are not invincible online like they thought they were.

Guess it's this thing called "the principle". You should treat your paying customers slightly better than your non-paying costumers. Whatever, I have no horse in the race so it's all bonus to me.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the ps+ for people who don't have it is more of a marketing thing to get more people signed up for it after they see all the free stuff they get, and I bet there is going to be a ton of free stuff for the next month for that very reason. The free month for subscribers is to reimburse them for what they lost. I honestly think they should have a free month for new psn accounts anyways ala Live, but that's neither here nor there.

Then give non-members 14 days to maintain equity. It's as simple as encrypting transissions.

I agree that they don't really owe us anything, but it would be nice to get a free cheap game or something. Let us choose from a list of maybe 5 Sony-published games (I'm not sure if third parties would go along with it). Obviously those that already have all of them wouldn't gain anything, but it would still be a nice gesture.

I honestly don't give a shit what freebies they give us since I rarely use my PS3 as a gaming system, but for the love of everything that is good and holy, just shore up their shit so this doesn't happen again!

Also, the utility companies aren't in danger of the customers jumping ship to a competitor due to the intrusion.

They already said that everyone will be getting free content as well as the 30 days of Plus and Qriocity.

I believe they said that in addition to the free month of ps+ they will be giving out a free game or two depending on what region you are in, so we are getting a free game at least. Might be something horrible though.

Well, it gets to the point where you hear people NOT talk about them fixing it and patching it up, and instead complaining about all the free stuff they are not being given. That's my problem with all this.

No one's complaining that we're getting compensated
I, as a non-paying member of PSN, question why I'm given the exact same amount of free stuff as paying subscribers.
Look, everyone was out X days. I didn't pay for those X days so when they give me Y > X of free stuff, I'm good.
PSN+ were out the same X days and are given the same Y days. However they paid for the X days so they're really only getting (Y-X) free. That's inequitable to me. It doesn't matter that it's "only $3" or whatever. They're basically saying that all the people that don't give them money are entitled to more. Plus those paying members could use a lesser percentage of their games offline in the time because they're tied directly to having an online connection. So it affected them even more.
That's my problem. I'm the people's champion!

That free month of PSN+ reminds me of the (now apparently defunct) class action lawsuit awards where you get a coupon off the service that did you wrong in the first place.
Also, I haven't tried it, but does the free content work while PSN is down (considering you have to be a PSN+ user to use it)?

Speaking of wallets, have they said anything about the security of the funds in everyone's wallet? I'm still not sure how much I had exactly but hope nothing was moved.

Sony can't win:
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/so...ring-an-issue/
Uh-oh. While Sony Online Entertainment had assured its customers last week that, "to the best of our knowledge, no customer personal information got out to any unauthorized person or persons" during last month's breach into Sony's systems, the MMO division today suspended its games and services, including its websites and Facebook titles.
"We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily," the group said in a brief statement this morning. "In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately."
SOE added that it would provide an update later today. In the meantime, the notification page suggests you download and play some (offline) casual games to distract you from that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach.
