re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Ive been trying to submit a repair request online.. but so far, no luck
filling out the damn form, and it keeps telling me i need to select a region.. although I already selected United States.
stupid crappy broken online form

i guess ill eventually have to break down and call

meanwhile.. Im streaming shows on tversity through my 360 without issue.

i assume as long as the xbox is less than 3 years.. there isnt any charge for repair/replacement?
if i ship it in, can i keep my harddrive, or do i need to backup everything first?
and whats the typical turnaround time

There's a one year "bumper-to bumper" warranty and a three year RRoD one. I think they've made the E74 error a three year coverage as well, but I'm not sure. They may swap out your unit with another refurbished one instead. You don't need to back anything up because you keep your detachable hard drive and snap it back on once the repair or replacement is done.

When you send it for repair just say it is three red lights regardless. My friend stepped on his disc tray and sent it in under this repair and got a refurb no questions asked.

You get a label... but do yourself a favor and find your own coffin and wrap because the UPS guys jail-sexed me for $15 for the packaging materials.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

well, she's dead

called microsoft, because their crappy site wasnt working properly still.. on and off the phone in under 5 minutes, not bad.. the process was quick and painless, and had a label printed before we hung up the phone.

Ive got a bunch of ebay/usps priority mail boxes laying around and they seem to be a pretty good size.. Will be packaging it up and getting it out this afternoon, or in the morning..
the one bright spot, is that Ill be heading out of town for several days starting saturday.. so I should be able to go ahead and have it sent off, and not missing it till i get back.

now i just need to find some packing material to wrap it in :-/

Yep, Mesquite, Texas I believe. I'm just hoping I got a new unit and not some hacked quick fix that will break in another year or two. I'm on my 4th Xbox already.

Sent mine off to MS today. It was working fine with every game except RDR, which was freezing and glitching constantly. Of course, RDR is the one game I've really wanted to play since it came out. Hopefully it will get turned around relatively quickly.

I, for example, use a Buffalo WHR-54GS router flashed with dd-wrt to turn it into a 4-port wireless bridge. It's cheaper and more flexible, but requires another power outlet and isn't as elegant because it doesn't clip onto the xbox.

I'm using a refurbished Linksys wireless N bridge, $20 or so, in my Arcade console. I'm also using an official Wireless G adapter in my Elite and I don't see any difference between them.
Thanks, all!

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

so.. for the people that closely monitored their status on their repairs
how long did it take from the time they received till they shipped back out?

i sent mine off yesterday.. just tracked it, and its scheduled to be delivered tomorrow....
2 days is pretty good for ground shipping, so Im wondering if that means Ill get it even quicker than was quoted.

I think it's generally about 2 weeks doorstep to doorstep.

I also sent mine yesterday and mine is also due to be delivered tomorrow, so we can race!

I purchased three: the original back at launch (later it died (twice) and I fixed it then sold it to a friend). I bought an Elite 2 years ago -- it died two weeks ago. I also bought an Arcade unit for the bedroom when Dell had their sale going on a few weeks back. So I guess that means I've had 5 total

I was happy though with my "repair"... MS sent me a new unit altogether and not a hack fix to my old system.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

If I'm remembering correctly (which I may not be), my history is:

Console 1: purchased in late 2006/early 2007. It red-ringed within a week, and so was exchanged for
Console 2: which lasted the better part of a year until it red-ringed. I had bought Circuit City's extended warranty, so I exchanged it for
Console 3: which red-ringed a year or so later, so I shipped it off to MS, who sent me
Console 3.5: which lasted until early 2010 when it had a non-red-ring failure, so I bought
Console 4: which lasted only a few months before the disc-drive started failing and I shipped it off for repair/replacement.

What the hell is going on? I just sent mine in last week as well. Are these things on a timer?

It's only my first RROD, so I can't complain.

I sent in a black Elite -- will I get a black Elite back?

Mine hit the red rings last week when my girl was playing. But it turned on the next day just fine. I'm busy with a Wii backlog at the moment and playing my NES more again (and a friend dropped off his PS3 so I could play Dot Heroes), so I don't know how often it'll be used at the moment.. are these things still on three years for red ring issues?

If it's the E74 error, that's indeed covered by a three-year warranty.

How do I know the error number? The screen never turns on.

When I filled out the console repair form, I got the impression that if a visible "E74" appears on your screen, it's a three-year warranty. If it's any other error/symptom, it's one-year. However, don't take my word for it. Fill out the form yourself and describe the symptoms/rings from the menus and it'll tell you explicitly if you have to pay for the repair.

if you're getting the red ring.. thats covered for 3 years
E74 is another failure, that one does post.. also covered for 3 years
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...nical_problems

if you didnt register it online when you bought it, and dont have proof of purchase.. your date might be a little less than expected... mine is about 3 months short of 3 years after i purchased.. not too bad.
