Oh, BTW, after the update, point cards are no longer redeemable online. I tried and got a message they have to be redeemed on the console instead.

One of the features in the beta was automatic updates. It's a new feature in settings.

Microsoft exec says Xbox 360 still has three years of life in it





Even though Microsoft is gearing up to support the launch of its next console, the Xbox One, on November 22, the company plans to support the established Xbox 360 console for at least another three years.

Speaking at the Citi Global Technology Conference, Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi confirmed the three year plan. He went on to call the Xbox 360 "incredibly profitable in the tall" which, translated from business speak, means "it's making impossible to believe amounts of money late in its life."

The Xbox 360 will celebrate its eighth birthday in November. Outside of the Xbox 360 S remodel introduced in in 2010, Microsoft has expanded upon its Xbox 360 business with a subsidized console. Just last week, Microsoft converted its Xbox 360 funny money MS Points over to real-world currency.

Had my second power brick death on my Slim model 360 today. The first one lasted a little less than a year, and this one lasted about 2 years. It's not in warranty now, obviously, so it's a $35 charge for an official replacement. Has anyone else had problems with those parts? I tried some home maintenance this time involving opening it up and cleaning it out thoroughly, but it didn't help.

The website will consume it. I believe others have said in the past the console won't, but who can be bothered to type that in with a controller?

Yes, the console will give you a confirmation screen before you redeem it. The website will not.

Sorry if this has been asked and it didnt come up in my searching. Does anybody make a controller for the 360 but in a PS3 body or close to it. I bought the 360 for my son a few months ago and I dislike the controller so much I won't even play games on it with him as much as I would like. I know they make PS3 controllers in xbox shells but do they do the opposite? Also has anyone used any of them? My firewall wont let me access any game related sites which is why I am asking here.

Not that I've seen. Just play with and get used to it. It's widely considered one of the best controllers for a reason.

I just saw a device called the Cronus adapter. Has anyone used this device successfully?

It's too big and I can't stand the offset sticks. The controller was the reason I never bought the original xbox or the 360 despite having tried the controller many times at friends houses and displays.

I understand I may be in the minority but I am not going to force myself to "get used to it" if there is a viable alternative to something that for me is uncomfortable and frustrating.

Nothing wrong with that. I think the DS3 is the 2nd worst controller behind the Dreamcast but still use it because third party stuff always comes up short. That being said if it comes down to gaming with my kid or nothing, I'll take the former every time.

While it isn't as common as the opposite, if you google search you will see quite a number of people posting on various gaming forums with the same need/want. Unfortunately I can't click on the links to see the discussions but it is something people do want.

So it's time to sell off one of my Xbox 360s with a bunch of games. What's the best way to wipe the system clean? I thought I remembered an article from a couple years ago where people were still extracting info off hard drives after previous users had attempted to wipe them.

As for that article, back in March of 2012, Some researchers claimed to have been able to extract info off of old Xbox harddrives, including credit card numbers. MS responded by saying that was "unlikely" because credit cards are not stored on an Xbox, but they were investigating. I can't find any update on the news item past that.

Looking at the presentation, I think the claim of recovering a credit card number is highly dubious. A program found a 16 digit number that was part of a larger 18 digit number that happens to match the pattern of a BoA Discover card number. There doesn't appear to be any other pertinent information with the number, such as expiration code or card name, so it could just be a coincidence.

As for other stuff, they did appear to be able to find some gamertags, possibly as part of a friend's list.

However, it's really unclear what state the hard drives were in when they started this recovery. The presentation doesn't specifically mention whether the drives were formatted using the built-in tool or not. It's possible they were scanning a drive where someone had "removed" their account, but hadn't formatted the drive.


For super security, you could pull the drive out, attach it to a computer, and run a disk wiping program. However, this will make the drive unusable in the Xbox, as the security sector on the drive will be overwritten. There's tools for backing up and writing back the security sector if you plan on going this route, although the one I found, FatXplorer, charges $30 for this feature:

You could also just hold onto or junk the drive, and sell the Xbox off without the drive.

- My main email has changed. When I log into XBL it still shows my old email. Not a huge deal, since I can still access the email, but if it's possibly I'd like to change my gamertag and MSLive/XBLive ID to my new email address - without losing anything. Can this be done?

Correct, only 1 gold is needed for the XB1. You'll have to get new gold accounts for both you and your son to continue on the 360 though. You'd have to get at least one gold account with the XB1 anyway. It will hold you over until Titanfall comes out in March. You'll then have to decide to play it on 360 or jump in on the XB1 then.

So I added a bunch of you guys on Xbox Live, and one thing I noticed right away. I don't game much lol. My 4500 gamerscore looks really pathetic
