Can anyone recommend a good racing game for kids? My son (4) adores cars but the few that I have are too difficult for him (Forza 2, Burnout).

Sonic & Sega racing might be fun for a 4 year old.

Cars 2 is an excellent racing game for kids. Don't be fooled by the title, as it's not based on the movie at all except for the characters and visual style. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, as mentioned above, is another great one. Both of those are better in quality than Madagascar Kartz or Dreamworks Super Star Kartz, but those are options as well.

I'd definitely recommend looking for Cars 2 as your first choice, though.

Today's Xbox update is taking forever. WTF!!!!

I searched in Twitter, just to be sure, and it seems most people is having the same issue.

https://twitter.com/search/realtime?...pdate&src=typd

Someone said that's three updates. I'm in the second one right now, the one that's taking forever. I mean I had one update, my Xbox rebooted, and had this second update, that's taking more than 10 minutes to download, and it's, according to the progress bar, halfway there.

I really hope this doesn't become the norm. :(

And oh yeah, I still need to update my second Xbox. #firstworldproblems

Too bad it's no longer on sale, but Joy Ride Turbo is actually a pretty fun XBLA kart racer using avatars. Better than I thought it would be. Might be worth 800 points to you. Check out the demo.

Thanks, I'll check that out (had the other Joy Ride game, but returned it due to poor reviews). Grabbed a few indie games and will look for that Sega game.

 Mine didn't take that long.

Then again, I did mine around 5pm. Less bandwidth traffic at dinner time?

For those who never received their Halo 4 golden election avatar armor, I posted on the Xbox Rewards forum and received a code via Xbox PM the next day from an Xbox Rep. They gave me both a male and female code. Please note that my Rewards account did show that I earned the armor; I just never received the code.

The new update is causing a lot of consoles to be effectively frozen on startup, enough so that MS has issued a service alert:

XBOX LIVE Service
Users may experience difficulties with the following services:

Signing in to Xbox LIVE

Affecting the following LIVE Platforms:

Xbox 360 Console

11/28/2012 12:30:25 PM PST:

Is your Xbox freezing when you attempt to sign in to Xbox LIVE? Is this right after you download the latest update? We are aware of this issue and we’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Thanks for being patient and please, check back in 30 minutes for an update on this issue.

Did you have two updates too?

It's the second one that takes a lot of time. I'm updating my second Xbox right now. It seems it's going to take some time, same as yesterday.

I got an email from Microsoft this week, warning me that if I don't renew my XBox Live Gold subscription, I risk losing the benefits it includes.

But... my membership doesn't expire until March... 2014.

Weird. Anyone else having issues with Live. I was on the Xbox site when it wouldn't connect. Then, I dl'ed some games, when I came back, I'm signed in, but it won't show me any social stuff.

Looks like there is something going on: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status

IllumiRoom is a proof-of-concept Microsoft Research project designed to push the boundary of living room immersive entertainment by blending our virtual and physical worlds with projected visualizations. The effects in the video are rendered in real time and are captured live -- not special effects added in post processing.

This looks cool. Is this being projected from the TV or a seperate box?

It uses a Kinect and a projector:
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/...ts/illumiroom/

It's not clear where the Kinect is located in the video, but I'm guessing it's behind the player, so that it can visualize the surroundings and "augment them" (like you see with the vibrating shelves).

The IllumiRoom thing looks really cool, but I just spent 8 months of last year building out a home theater with a 10' screen and projector. I don't think there's any way I could incorporate that thing into my setup and I'm not moving my gaming back to a TV after getting used to a giant screen.

And of course people are writing long posts about this, in all the videogame blogs.
