re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

http://www.destructoid.com/xbox-live...--223755.phtml

Reports around the Web are pouring in from Xbox 360 users who have had their entire gaming history wiped from existence. People are complaining on the official Xbox forums, and I also received a note from an old friend of mine in England who has suffered the same error.

"Earlier I was playing Mass Effect 3 on Xbox and decide to eat something," reports Louie Falls. "I came back, turned on Xbox and loaded up Mass Effect. I then got a message saying that my Gamertag has been used on a different console and that my game will start from the last time I played on this console. Then I realised that when I got an achievement, my whole gamerscore was reduced to 0. It's happenend to about 50% of the people on my list."

Although Mass Effect 3 has been named in conjunction with a lot of errors, it doesn't seem to be exclusive. Louie says that his friends have also been affected while playing Dawn of War, Halo Reach and Lost Odyssey. He has also called Microsoft's support line, and was informed that Microsoft is aware of the issue, and working on a fix.

Very weird issue indeed, and hopefully Microsoft can tell us what, exactly, went wrong. If you care about your game history, you might want to keep off Xbox Live until this is sorted out.
Uh..yipes.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

I can't access Xbox.com at work, but I logged in on my phone and saw the achievements for the last few games I've played, but I couldn't find my gamer score on the mobile site.

I think the only two games I've played for the last few months are Sonic 4 and Arkham City. I guess I did play one level online of The Simpsons arcade.

I wonder if this is related to the XBLA policy change somehow? I haven't signed in to my xbox yet, but my online stuff looks right still.

Surely all of this stuff is recoverable, though.

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/xbox-l...-updated/4030/

UPDATE: Microsoft has issued a statement on this morning's shenanigans, and claims everything should be fixed in a few hours.

"We are aware that some Xbox LIVE members are having problems with their Gamerscores. Affected users should log out and back in to restore their scores. While this should fix the issue, updated Gamerscores may not be reflected on Xbox.com for a couple of hours. We’re working on this and expect it to be fully resolved soon.”

As for achievements earned during the glitched period, Microsoft told me the company is working to have everything restored "shortly."

Anyone here try the new Voice Studio app yet? It's a Kinect-only program that's supposed to help Microsoft with voice recognition. It's similar to the Xbox Live Labs thing they did last year. 50 free Gamerscore if you complete all the tests, and several free avatar items, too.

It's not on the website so I don't have a link for it but it can be found in the Social tab of the dashboard, in Social Apps. U.S. only and it does take a little while to complete.

There's four in all. Two props: A set of tin-can telephones and a big-ass speaker, which your avatar does a little dance to. And a t-shirt and a pair of glasses with vinyl records for lenses.

Help me help you help Microsoft.

Thanks. My Xbox Live was expired I'm pretty sure, but the coupon and free games make this a good enough deal for us even if I'm current.

Thanks for the heads up. I downloaded it and I'm now working on saying things at my TV. GOTY!

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Is there an easy way to get the Xbox 360 wireless controller to work in Win7? From what I see with a few searches, the wired controller basically "just works", but people have to get a special adapter for the wireless. However, reviews for the "adapter" on Amazon make it seem like they are not an official Microsoft product. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

The official wireless controller for windows comes with a proprietary usb dongle so it can connect to the controller. Without the dongle, you won't be able to connect it. If you have a PS3 controller, they connect via Bluetooth so they should work.

I have the official MS adaptor. It's the size of a Hot Wheels car. It works great when plugged into the computer via USB. They don't sell it without the controller any more, for some odd reason. Don't know how well the off-brand ones work.

The knockoff i got worked good but the drivers disc they sent was crap, had to find hacked drivers online. That may turn some off but it worked well for me and the drivers were legit.

I have the official one too. I didn't realize it was difficult to find a Microsoft official one. I guess they want to make you buy the bundle.

Promo for HBO Go on the Xbox 360

Crossing my fingers that Directv will support it, although I doubt it.

Doesn't look like Comcast is going to allow XBox users use of the HBO GO app...I've heard they want users to access HBO content through the upcoming Xfinity app, even though the content doesn't come close to holding all the shows/movies HBO GO does.

Makes you wonder if HBO is ever interested in changing the contracts in the future to start allowing direct subscriptions. I don't have cable, let alone HBO, but I have no qualms about using my parents' account since they aren't. If HBO wanted $10/mo from me, they'd get it, however.
