Agreed. The $150 price tag for the peripheral itself will ensure its failure. That's only $50 less than a Wii console just for a peripheral. Crazy.

I imagine there will be a price drop relatively quickly. But I'll probably buy into it on day one.

The bundle prices aren't bad but MS just took a giant dump on the 30+ million current 360 owners with that $150 tag.

Re: Project Natal

Does the fact that they didn't mention the price mean that there's a chance they'll bring it in for less, like they're floating a trial balloon? Because they know that PS3 will have their motion controller + PS Eye + game (of some sort) for $100. Even if they're sure their system is more innovative and immersive, you're asking the public to pay twice as much for Kinect + a game. That's a tough sell.

Plus someone here got the bundle prices wrong, I think. Joystiq mentioned $299 for the Arcade, $399 for the elite.

Re: Project Natal

Yup, Gamestop actually lists them for 299/399, not 199/299. Though it may have be listed that way earlier.

Groucho 06-14-10 04:33 PM

Re: Project Natal

Yeah, they bumped them up $100 each from when I first checked. Should've placed an order!

I don't see how the name is hard to pronounce either.

I'm saying go all or nothing - don't half-ass motion control more than halfway through your consoles lifespan and expect anything but a niche result.

If it's a part of the system from Day 1, it'll be used by a lot more games. Unless it's the SIXAXIS...cause that one went away :)

The name isn't hard to say, but I think you have to think about it for a second. And that's not good branding. If they wanted to go this way, they should have just called it "Connect".

Oh, that's exactly what they are doing. Waiting to see the PS3 pricing so they can match or undercut it.

So Microsoft waited and watched Sony's press conference, then said "Fuck it, release it at $150 anyway!"

well, at least for $150 that's all you need. It costs $200 to get 2 full Move setups. $360 for 4 players... $240 if you don't include the nunchuck (not sure how many games require that).

Anybody see any of the trailers on XBL that show the unit moving at the end like Johnny 5's head? It's a little creepy. I may have to keep a cloth over it when I'm not using it because I'm not sure I trust it.

Title change hooray!

I'm not saying $150 is a bad price. I just would have preferred $100. I might have had a glass of the Kool-Aid for $100.

Still a better deal than the Move set up if you have multiple players, yes.

$150 better include Adventures and/or Kinectimals. Sports looks lame as shit.

E3 2009 : Come check out Joyride, the free-to-play avatar-based XBLA racing game where you can upgrade your car with mircrotransactions and race your friends online!

E3 2010 : Come check out Joyride, the $59.99 avatar-based racing game you play with a $149.99 camera instead of the controller you already have!

I haven't watched the new demo vids, but will Kinect really be able to differentiate well between four people in the same playing area?

they didn't put much focus on it but they demo'd one game where a second player came up and Kinect/game automatically added their Avatar and made it split screen on the fly.

My wife and my mistress look pretty similar (they're sisters). Will Kinect be able to distinguish the two?

Probably not...but it will judge your lifestyle choice. Kinect is hardcore conservative.

At 150$ I will most likely wait and see reviews, how it works in small spaces, deals with dimly lit rooms, and still might pass to spend my cash on an 3DS.

At 100$ I think the hype would have hooked me in.

At 75$ I would have picked it up no matter what.

I'm pretty sure Kinect could distinguish. However, Kinect would probably use the information to blackmail you. See, Kinect already got $150 from you, what's a few thousand more? rotfl
