Exactly. And I can hear the stupid feature on any given MSNBC/CNN/etc place now....

"Imagine playing a video game without using a controler! Well that's what Microsoft's Kinect allows game players of all ages to do! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"

And then they finish the story and somebody says "Remember Donkey Kong?" or something equally out of touch.

Good Morning America already had a piece on Kinect this morning. They showed a white water rafting "game." Not very impressive. They did mention a yoga game where it teaches you the proper moves by aligning yourself with a model on screen. Decent idea.

$200+$150 for Kinect (total: $350)
$200 for Wii + $20 for Wii Motion+ (x1) + $100 Wii Balance Board (x1)

Fixed. Kinect at least should interact with all players in a full-body way for a single price.

It came with a camera?

If they play it right with games for the toddler set, I would maybe pick it up. I'd think some sort of virtual chalkboard could be doable, and just some fun finger painting things.

Will Kinect do anything for me? Probably not, but I certainly see what MS is trying to do and you can't blame them at all. This thing is tailor made for the mass media outlets and will be completely eaten up by them. You know...the place where NONE of US go for our gaming news. ;)

I still maintain they would be in a lot better place if this was part of the "Xbox 720" if/when that comes out. I'd argue the main reason the Wii was successful is because it forced every developer to use this controller in some way. I doubt many developers will jump on the bandwagon with this thing, especially if it's crazy expensive.

So you have a handful of "games" and a pricey camera, all geared toward an audience that probably doesn't own a 360 already. THAT is what people should be complaining about.

And the name is beyond dumb. You shouldn't ever name a product something that isn't easy to pronounce.

While I certainly am not the target audience for this device, I keep thinking if I can figure out a way to make it tamper proof and theft proof, rigging up a 360, Kinect and flat panel tv in my waiting room would make for the best Pediatric waiting room diversion. Will have to look into that.

If Kinect really does retail for $150, it will be a massive failure.

I'm glad they went this route then, since I'd hate if they forced every developer to use this.

I don't see how the name is hard to pronounce either.

On the flip side, if this is $60 and comes with a game I would probably pick it up just for laughs.

Maybe forced is a bad way to look at it... there are certainly Wii games that control very well using traditional controls (like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom), and DS games that control well without much stylus use. But by having it available to every single console, it's much easier for a developer to justify the cost. I'm not sure exactly where on the roadmap we are in the 360's lifespan, but that also works against this, I would think.

We'll see, though. I'm obviously not the intended audience, since the last few Wii games I bought and enjoyed use the motion control sparingly if at all. I also have pretty much every camera for every system that's come out so far, only to see them all collect dust (Eye of Judgement, I'm looking at you).

Gamestop has Kinect up for preorder at $149 all the Kinect games are listed at $59. This will be a failure at these prices.

$149 for just the hardware and no games? It'll at least have something included, even if it's just the Sports title.

Oddly enough, they have an Kinect "arcade bundle" for 199 and a Kinect "elite bundle" for 299 -- the same price that Amazon is selling those consoles for without Kinect.

Seems like the best deal is to buy the bundle, keep the Kinect, and sell the console!

They're each +$100 to that price now, though. Makes sense to give a discount in a bundle. So... buy the new 360 now or wait and take the $50 savings if I want Kinect?
