Personal opinion, $10 is too much for a pre-sale. Sad they couldn't work it out with Microsoft to get those codes, though they may be butt-hurt over the PS3/Vita thing. I agree with others when saying this sets a bad precedent. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
They added a $50 tier. I think I'd do $25 for the tourney entry, even though that's pointless for me (nor do I even know what it means):
Everything above PLUS an exclusive Twilight Zone Pinball wallpaper for the device of your choice AND an entry into the Pinball Arcade Supporters Tournament! |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
And here's the $25 tier. I'm in for this, but it pretty much ensures that the 360 won't be my platform of choice (unless this somehow works on it even though the table won't be offered this way).
Everything above PLUS an exclusive Twilight Zone edition virtual pinball (which can be used on any of the tables in the Pinball Arcade! |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I'm glad they aren't giving codes for the Xbox, so now I'm not even tempted to support this.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Is it wrong to want this project to get funded, but to not want to actually contribute to it? If they're really in danger of not making their funding I'll probably kick in $10, but I'm going to wait a while -- I'd rather just buy the table DLC, maybe at twice the going rate of $2.50/table. They really should have given something (maybe the special ball, maybe early access) to those who fund at the $10 level. I know I'd be kicking myself (rather than patting myself on the back) if my $10 just allowed other gamers to buy the same table for $2.50.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
You can always de-fund when it hits $55,010.
I completely agree that the tiers are hosed up. They'd get so many more at $5 than $10. Unfortunately not double because the passionate are outnumbered greatly by the entitled gamer mindsets out there. Still, they claim that anything above the goal they raise will be put towards future licenses. Doubt they'll get enough to clear another outright, but it would be a nice start. I wonder how much of the money they've raised is because it's the "#1 table" and how much is because this is a new idea and the first time a VG license has been done this way. It would be sad if this experiment is a one-off for most of these backers (especially at these mangled tiers) and nothing else major gets properly funded. Of course, I hope FSS did everything they could to get those fees as low as possible before they even considered crowd-funding it. It would suck if they got lazy on that end or the rights holders see that this worked and they can nudge it just a little more in their favor next time. "They raised $67,000 last time, we can ask for 10% more safely." |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I know that. It's a DLC table that will cost $2.50 for everyone else. I meant they should give you something special for being a Kickstarter at the $10 tier besides that. That custom pinball couldn't cost anything to distribute. Or maybe a dynamic PSN theme? Or at least early access to the table.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I think he's just thinking that he paid 4x as much as the next guy to play the table in the end and didn't get anything special out of it.
|
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Splitting hairs, the tables are $3, not $2.50, so it's only 3.33x as much, but that's really only a complaint for people that do donate AND ask for the reward.
1) You can donate as little as $1 2) You can donate well past any tier and opt out of a reward Don't worry, party people, it looks like it's well on its way to becoming reality anyway. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I was reading through the FAQ on the TZ Kickstarter, and this caught my eye:
Will the Twilight Zone table be available on the Xbox 360? We will definitely release the table on the 360- we just can't give it to anyone as a reward for being a backer. The codes that Microsoft issues us only work for purchasing the main game, not for downloadable content. Still, I imagine that MS actually won't cooperate due to the sheer size of it. I wonder if they could do 240msp codes or anything like that to accomplish the same thing? Also: How will the table Operator's Menu work? Will it be available for purchase later? Most real-life pinball tables have an Operator's Menu that lets the operator change table settings (like the number of balls) and get diagnostic information about the table. Since the Pinball Arcade uses ROM-emulation to run the same code as the original table, our Operator's Menu will be identical to the one in real life. We'll have to enforce a rule that scores played on anything other than the default operator settings won't count for leaderboards, though! We have not decided if this feature will be available to purchase later. It seemed like a really cool way to reward our backers. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
They seem to be a little clueless overall. I like how the video implores this project like it's a humanitarian bid. "This will be the only way your children will ever get to experience these pinball tables". God, I hope not, because they'll never understand what's cool about a pinball table then.
His speech did convince me of one thing : I need to throw my kids in the car this weekend and drive the 18.2 miles to Tropicana & Spencer to visit the Pinball Hall of Fame. I've put it off far too long and now my kids are apparently in danger of never seeing a working pinball machine. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Didn't the initial Pepsi - Rock Band thing just give MS points as a prize and then "encourage" you to use them on tracks? I seem to remember every once in a while a contest for DLC just ends up being the points value of said DLC.
Point simply being, I don't think Microsoft has a shred of consistency, and depending on who you call on the phone there at any given time you're probably given a totally different answer as to how DLC works. Also, a buddy of mine was out at the Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas last week. Says it was really nice. There's also a smaller collection of tables in the Riviera Casino. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1BRuftvDJw8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
No, the Pepsi thing made you pick a specific song and it sent you a code for that song.
I don't remember them ever doing a 160msp code in the beginning/initial stages of that. Anyway, they still do it today on twitter. I've won a lot of specific DLC from Harmonix for RB. Zen sends review copies of tables out to people for PFX2 via codes. Not to mention all the other devs and review sites that get access to DLC codes for giveaways and reviews. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Got 120 million on Ms. Splosion Man. Quite happy with myself. There are a couple of people on my list with scores in the 300million+ range like pinata but I know my limitations. The only part that actually frustrated me was that I got to the fourth part with the big bot (after unbreakable walls, that electric thingy, and the bots you have to hit in the back) with all the barrels and all the balls and I completely lose it. Too much to follow at once and I eventually lost due to that. Those of you who can get past that point, bravo seriously.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
For that there's very little risk, you just need to focus on the lower section of the table with the flippers and keep the balls going the other way. The chaos up above and the remaining count is irrelevant, just keep flippin'.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Another tip for the 2nd and 3rd modes (electric beam and rollerbots) is that you can activate multiball during those, but you have to set it up before. For whatever reason, it doesn't work for the unbreakable walls mode.
In case you need a refresher, to set up multiball, shoot the middle ramp (the one that says SPLOSION) on it 8 times. This is the one that travels to the left, breaking all the glass. After 8 times she'll say "Splodalicious" or something ridiculous, that's your audible clue. Then lock the ball in that hole on the left. Be careful here because if you hit that held ball, you will start multiball and will be unable to start the next mode. You want to make sure you start the mode first. Probably the best thing to do is make sure that the Mighty Eternal is down on the board with his mouth open before locking the ball. Start the mission mode then multiball. This really helps in finishing those middle missions. Now, when you do get past the 4th mission (barrel blast) you'll be confused because it'll lock your flippers down and drain your remaining balls. Then it'll immediately start the final mission which is a 2-ball multi that you just have to hit like 12 or 15 shots. Any shots, it doesn't matter, it just represents Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man going nuts on the big robot. After that, the flippers lock again and drain those balls (you can lose one and still finish). |

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Something tells me this pushes them over the top by end of week.
We've got some great news- we've worked out with Microsoft a way to award the Xbox 360 version of the Twilight Zone table as a reward to our backers! You'll need to already own the Xbox 360 version of the Pinball Arcade to have access to the table on the 360. [If you've pledged at the $10 level we'll contact you as the ship date approaches asking you which platform you'd like the table on (including the 360). If you've pledged at the $100 level you'll get the table on every platform (including the 360) as well as the access to the Table Operator's Menu on every platform (including the 360)! Kickstarter doesn't allow us to edit the text of the rewards, so unfortunately the language about the 360 version not being available as a reward will remain (but we'll post a clarifying FAQ). We're now over 80% of the way to making the Twilight Zone pinball table a reality! If the lack of the Xbox 360 version as a reward was holding you back, please increase your pledge and help put us over the top! |

Shit, I may go to the $100 tier to have it on 360 and iOS and Mac and then just donate the PSN, Android, and other tables. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Ha! I might just do that to reciprocate for the Lost Winds iOS code you sent me. But the others are going to the 8BB annual Child's Play charity raffle, should I actually decide to quadruple my kickstarter pledge.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
TPA:TTZ Update #5, now every pledge value is doubled if they hit $110K. They'll do ST:TNG table and give you the same benefits for your TTZ pledge. That puts me to $100, officially. Get off your asses!
We're now at the chronological halfway point of our Kickstarter project- two more weeks to go! We have been gratified and humbled by the tremendous support from our fans. Although it's too soon for a victory lap, with 86% of the money for the Twilight Zone table raised already, it seems very likely we're going to make it! That got us thinking- what would we do if we raised more than the goal? Another great table we'd love to digitize is Star Trek: The Next Generation. <img src="http://www.farsightstudios.com/temp/TNG_table" width=550 height=730> This incredible table was designed by the legendary Steve Ritchie (who by the way is a longtime Star Trek fan) and released under the Williams label in 1993. It is currently #3 on the Internet Pinball Database's list of the top pinball tables of all time! Unfortunately we face the same licensing challenges for this table as we have for the Twilight Zone (and the licenses are similarly expensive). But if we raise an additional $55,000 (for a total of $110,000) we will also digitize Star Trek: The Next Generation! If we reach this stretch goal (but only if we reach it), every backer Reward will also apply to Star Trek: The Next Generation. So everyone who pledges at least $10 will get the table on a single platform, everyone who pledges at least $25 will get an exclusive Star Trek virtual pinball, everyone who pledges at least $50 will get a Star Trek wallpaper, everyone who pledges at least $100 will get access to the Star Trek: The Next Generation operator's menu, and everyone who pledges $500 will be a Beta tester with early access to the Star Trek table. We would plan to launch Star Trek: The Next Generation a month behind the Twilight Zone (so approximately December 2012), Reaching this stretch goal will require a similar level of support from our fans as what we've experienced with the Twilight Zone, but we're confident it can be done! Please pledge generously so we can make Star Trek: The Next Generation a reality! |
