I'm so glad I'm not in a position to get early access anymore because I totally have other gaming planned this weekend and having those tables would wreck all of that.

I had this shirt at the time, but I thought wearing it to that party a little tacky.

Man, I had totally forgotten about the Avengers tables finally coming out today for PSN. Thanks to the upcoming Vita versions, I'll be buying this for Zen Pinball tonight. Looking forward to trying them out.
In case anybody was still unsure of the details regarding Zen Pinball 2, I've copied the FAQs below: Spoiler:

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I guess the guy in charge of achievements at Zen decided "Fuck it!" and made the simplest 50 point achievements he could.

While I think Infinity Gauntlet is the most visual striking, and maybe most interesting, I think World War Hulk is my current fave. The Avengers table is ridiculously awesome too though. LOVE the storytelling from the movie they do with that one. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Well, it is an "XBLA" game with over 1,500gs and nearly 100 achievements. I'm sure it's not a Zen decision so much as a MS limitation/restriction. Sounds like we're running out of room for achievements in this shell.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Also, the Xbox system update this morning seems to have borked some things. There are no leaderboards at the moment, and my achievement doesn't seem to have registered.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I played each table once this morning. Really liked WW Hulk as well -- it's not what I would have expected from a Hulk table (smashing things), but it's more traditional and that's fine with me. I liked that you play some of the game on an MSG-inspired basketball court; have no idea what that's about, but it was a cool sub-table. Infinity Gauntlet was interesting and gorgeous, but seems like Epic Quest where it's confusing at first until you know what's going on. Avengers is really cool and choosing the ball to use is a very cool new feature. Wasn't too fond of Fear Itself, but don't know that story or theme at all -- maybe that would have made it more appealing to me.
Please PSN peeps : add me to your Friends list and get these tables. I miss having a huge list of Friends' scores to aspire to. With the free Vita version coming, I'm going Zen 2/PSN for all future Zen releases and really miss the social aspect. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Back to Pinball Arcade, according to their latest FB post:
We're happy to announce that the update of the Pinball Arcade for iOS (iPhone and iPad) is now available in both free and paid versions. We're also very excited that the paid version will become the iOS App Store's Free App of the Week for a week starting tomorrow! We hope this exposes many new people to our obsession with classic pinball. At Apple's request we will remove the free version from the store for a week during the promotion to avoid confusion. Apple says that our customers who have previously downloaded the free version will continue to have access to the update and in-app purchases during this time, but they didn't seem too sure of themselves- we recommend that everyone using the free version update their app (and buy the new tables if you want them) sometime today just in case you loose the ability to do so for a week. And if you've been on the fence about joining our community on iOS then this next week will be a great time to do so- you'll get the paid version of the app (along with the great Tales of the Arabian Nights table) for free! |

From what I read on GAF just now (not sure if it's 100%), MS has a limit of 99 achievements on a single game. So PFX2 is getting near their limit, and therefore trying to cut down and conserve them a little bit.

It is free now. It's strange : They have like 12 tables available for purchase on iOS, but still haven't brought a single DLC table to PSN or Xbox Marketplace. I wonder what the hold up is? Anyway, that Monster Mash table (using the Universal classic monsters) is awesome. Too bad the ball physics on the iOS version is so wonky. I'll get that table for sure when it hits PSN

My brother and I have a deal. I buy all of the Zen tables on iOS and he buys the Pinball Arcade titles. We didn't set out that way on purpose, it just happened organically. So far I think I'm ahead on that one. I had a helluva time getting Circus Voltaire to work on my new iPad. Finally working though. I think that is one of my favorite of the available tables, though Monster Bash and Theatre of Magic are definitely up there as well. |

I think the first 2 packs of tables are going to be on PSN next week. Not sure about the Xbox ones. They said part of their problem with XBOX was the title update that allows for the DLC was too big so it was rejected by MS.
DLC Tables Pack #1 Release Dates : Medieval Madness and The Machine : Bride of Pin•Bot are AVAILABLE NOW! on Android, iOS, Kindle Fire and PS Vita (NA). They should also be available on Mac by the end of next week, PS3 (NA) on June 26th and Xbox 360 by mid July. DLC Tables Pack #2 Release Dates : Cirqus Voltaire and Funhouse are AVAILABLE NOW! on Android, iOS and Kindle Fire. They should also be available on Mac by the end of next week, PS3 (NA) and PS Vita (NA) on June 26th and Xbox 360 by mid July. DLC Tables Pack #3 Release Dates : Gorgar and Monster Bash are AVAILABLE NOW! on Android and iOS. They should also be available on Kindle Fire by the end of next week, Xbox 360 by mid July and Mac, PS3 (NA) and PS Vita (NA) by the end of July. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Wow, sure enough the first pack is available on the Vita. Since it's not on the PS3 PSN store, I just assumed it wouldn't be on the Vita either. I'll buy pack 2 next week for the PS3/Vita, but not sure about pack one as Medieval Madness seemed pretty generic. I'm downloading the Vita update right now and will (hopefully) be able to demo the tables. I'll post here to confirm whether demos are available for new DLC tables on the Vita after the game updates.
edit : Nope. Trial versions of DLC tables not available on the Vita. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
Well, I bought Circus Voltaire and Funhouse and downloaded them for the PS3 (which is only a 100 kb unlock key), but it doesn't do anything. There seems to be no way to buy DLC in game or download an update to the game. For as much as I complain about forced PSN updates, one here would be sort of useful. I can play the tables on the Vita (Circus Voltaire is a cool and unique table, but damn it's got a huge gap between the flippers), but I can't for the life of me figure out how to play them on the PS3.
Piñata, are you sure these are the guys you want to throw a C-note at? |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
I backed my pledge way down. Back to $25 before the end of the campaign. Shady, but I didn't like how the addition of st:tng was mishandled.
Glad I did because while I think the preservation of tables is important, I got the free version on iOS and hated how it plays on the iPhone. I expect it's different on the iPad and the consoles, but I haven't bothered to try those again. I'm happy with Zen's awesome impossible tables. Speaking of which, we are coming up on 3 months since Zen teased the PopCap table with no news. That makes me anxious. |
Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread
For the PS3 versions of the add-ons you will need to redownload the demo (i had to google this last night). Once you re-install the demo the new tables will be available. It seems there was a bug and when more tables are released this will no longer be necessary.
FYI, buying the PS3 add-ons also gives you those tables on the vita. I don't have a vita and don't plan on getting one, but I like this idea. |
