scribblenauts anyone?

Ok this game is coming out next week and I have to say I'm very very excited! To me, it's the coolest thing I have seen game-wise in a long time. Anyone else picking this up?

for those that don't know what is or want a better idea what it is about read:

Also, it features both Longcat and Keyboard cat.

I was looking forward to it until I read that link. Not sure how much enjoyment I'll get out of that kind of trial-and-error gameplay. Now I'm thinking I'll wait for some reviews to pop up.

I don't know, to me that's the fun of it! Not necessarily the amount of attempts but the varied thought processes. Why not go for net right away with the bees? Each persons gaming experience is going to be different and I think that's great. Your gameplay will be as fun as you can be. Don't worry, I'll be back to post my experiences.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

As I posted in the DS thread, my one concern is that the game is a little counter-intuitive in the sense that to solve puzzles effectively (the de-facto object of the game), you can whip out the super-powered items (like God + Shotgun) over and over, but the more rewarding (at least mentally) way to play is to try different off-the-wall things. I wish there could have been a way to reward your play for being creative rather than just time based, since that runs counter to the game's best strengths.

It looks awesome. I can't wait for it and M&L3.

I'm really looking forward to it.

I will say this though, I think it'll either end up as a legit candidate for GOTY or it'll end up being one of the biggest disappointments in gaming history.

I thought there was some sort of reward system in place for "style". Is there not?

Sounds good. What's their price going to be?

CAG tells me $29, and that the GC offer is only valid on Tuesday.

Looks like I'll probably be cancelling my GS pre-order, as I don't see the rooster hat being worth $15. I'd wear it to work a few times, and then it'd go in the closet forever.

This game got a 10/10 in the latest Nintendo magazine.

Also the Mario And Luigi game, you get a 10 dollar gift card for buying that game. Valid on sunday only and retails for 34.99

sweet TRU is just handing GC's. I get Mario and Luigi on Sunday, use that $10 towards Scribblenauts then use that $15 towards the new HALO and that one comes with a $20 GC.

The game is awesome and I hate handhelds. I played it last week in Vegas and have been eagerly awaiting next week, and telling customers to reserve a copy!

I know. I just joined the ECA about 6 weeks ago in anticipation of using it on all the fall titles but it looks like TRU will be getting most of my business.

I'll be using my $25 GC from Wii Sports Resort on Scribblenauts and like you turn around and use that $15 on ODST. I might use that $20 from ODST on Lego Rock Band.

TRU is easily becoming the retailer of the year.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Mike, I'm not sure if that'll work. I have a $30 gc from Batman and I'm expecting the computer to shut me down for trying to buy a $15 game and a $15 gift card with a $30 gift card.

Even considered getting the new M&L game on Sunday and carrying the gcs forward, but even that will end up being less than my $30 on actual product.

Brent L 09-10-09 01:21 PM

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

It also got a 9.5 in the German Wii magazine.

Yeah, I figured that may happen. It's worth a shot though.

If nothing else, I'll just stock up on my GCs for the B2G1F sale in October and do some later trading to pick up LRB.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I thought the hat would be a funny collectible, but getting half the price of the game back is a much better deal. I can use my Wii Sports Resort giftcard to buy it and have another card for something else.

You shouldn't have any problem redeeming your gift card on it. You will be charged 29.99 plus tax on it and after using your giftcard you will pay tax and receive a 15 dollar gift card

I don't have a DS, but this game is making me want one. Are there many puzzle-based games for the DS? That's the only thing I'm missing owning only a PS3.

Professor Layton, Puzzle Quest... Hell, there are tons of puzzle games that use the touch screen, much like there are tons on the wii

Nice! I'll have to keep an eye out for a cheap used one. Now I'm wondering how many awesome deals I've passed up on those games between Target clearance and Blockbuster B1G1.
Thanks

Have you done it before? The receipt will show the game at $14.99 and the gift card at $15.00 (total $29.99). But you're essentially buying a gift card with a gift card. I don't think that'll work.

If TRU doesn't hasn't programmed their system to handle this, they could be opening themselves up to real issues.

They're advertising the game at $29.99 with a free $15 gift card as a reward. If they turn around and say "No" to a person paying with a $30 gift card once you're in the store, it may be one of the few times the state would have a case if somebody's ticked off enough to file an official complaint with the proper consumer watchdogs.

This is how it has worked before and why I think the system will reject it. If anything couldn't you pay $14.99 with the GC and cash for the other $15?

pinata242 09-11-09 01:11 PM

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

I don't know enough about their system to know that. I guess worst case you pay $15 cash first, get a new total and pay for the remainder ($14.99 + tax) with the existing gift card.

But now you've got two gift cards to keep track of with different expiration dates, etc.

I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to be wrong, but I've dealt with this shit at other retailers (BB) enough to have reservations about this being sensible.

I'm seriously considering picking up M&L 3 on Sunday. If I do, it'll be the same situation so I can report then.

The gift card value as payment is not deducted until after tax is added and the order is totaled....the total will be for more than $30, so regardless, you will be fine...
Also, you can use gift cards to buy other gift cards, I have done this before to combine gift cards rather then carry a bunch of smaller ones around....

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Since this seems to be about TRU GCs as a side-topic, I thought I'd ask here.

So I went by today to get M&L3, but the ad was misprinted and they won't have it until Tuesday along with Scribblenauts. They'll still honor the $10 GC with that purchase, so that's good.

But now I'm having second thoughts because the B2G1 deal *should* be coming up next month. Those two along with the new Kingdom Hearts game (retail $35) were ear-marked for that sale.

So do I take the guaranteed $25 and hope KH has a GC deal > $5 to break-even if the B2G1 deal comes around? Or do I pass on these deals and risk the B2G1 deal not actually happening (or a KH deal that would have made buying these now a better deal)?

So, what do y'all think?

The more of these gift card deals I see, the more I think the B2G1 sale won't be happening. They may be testing out this new style of promotion this fall instead of the old standby.

pinata242 09-13-09 03:48 PM

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Yeah, I see that as a distinct possibility. I think I'll just take the guaranteed $25, plus I'll get to play them over a month earlier. I'm really only risking $5 this way. And if KH comes with its own $10 GC, I come out ahead
