I tried beer as well. I also tried an Oasis but there wasn't enough room for it.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

My new favorite thing is summoning black holes to take care of things in my way. Very effective as long as I don't get too close.

I had a freeze twice so far so this game does have issues. On 2-8 I had only summoned one item, but the game still froze on me.

Not enough room for just the ego, I imagine.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

I bought this game yesterday. My wife wanted to try it first...

I don't know when I'll get to play it now. Dammit.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

That parody was pretty good. I am still loving this just because it makes me think about how I want to solve the problem, not just how I am supposed to. Sure there were a couple puzzles where I just said screw it and used the standbys of Jetpack or whatever but it's so much more fun when I hit a puzzle and need to set the DS down for a bit while I go over the puzzle in my head.

I agree the controls for the character do kinda suck sometimes, but it has yet to ruin a puzzle for me. Is there a way to change the character on the start screen? One of my favorite things to do is go on that screen and interact with stuff. I just wish I could be the zombie or shaman while on that screen. Also, has anyone found another way to kill a cockroach besides setting off a nuke?

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

This is sure to ruffle a few feathers:

"Racial Term in DS' Scribblenauts? Unintentional, Developer Explains."

I believe the developer and don't think this was intentional or malicious by any stretch. But I do find it hard to believe that at no point during the game's development did someone speak up and say "hey, this is a word with racial connotations and it brings up what looks like a watermelon...wtf guys?"

Reading through the Kotaku comments, that's the most surprising thing that's come out of this...the number of people who are just completely unfamiliar with the term. I'm not sure whether to count that as a good thing or a bad thing. But it makes the scenario in which nobody raised any concern during the game's development a bit more plausible, I suppose.

Still, a google search for the word "sambo" returns tons of results for the fighting style and the racist charicature, with nothing on the "fig leaf gourd" in the first few pages. So I'm still a bit skeptical, but again, I don't think it was intentional or malicious. I guess the word for it is uninformed.

On the surface, without reading Kotaku's writeup on the subject, it boils down to this: writing a racist epithet conjures up what looks like a watermelon. Based on just that alone, that's pretty offensive (though I'll probably be in the minority on that point based on past discussions on this board). I think the way Kotaku handled it is much more responsible than if the mainstream media had picked this story up.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Wow, what a disaster for them. You would think someone would have caught that in testing. Tons of bad press on a good game.

Speaking of the game has anyone found a way to get past trip wires. I'm on a level now that seems to have no way around tripping them. I know how to block the item so it doesn't get destroyed, but I wish I could deactivate the trip wire.

I tried teleporter, but ended up in another place that I guess is the developers since it has their logo on the wall. Also tried wormhole, but that just spawned an alien out of it.

I haven't played yet (my copy was delivered today -- I can't wait to get home from work and give it a try!!!!), but can you go over them somehow? Perhaps conjure up a pogo stick or a bridge?

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

I swear I am so tired of the PC world we live in. I have known my share of people who are racist and of all the terms I have heard them use, of all the jokes they have told and of all the stereotypes they have mentioned I have never once heard this word. Why do idiots have to make this out to be more than it is. The word means a figleaf gourd and it looks like a watermelon, so instead of creating a second image in the game they used a watermelon. I guess there are people out there offended that if you type in Zeus the same image is given as God. This is simply a case of some idiot in the media trying to break a story.

I'm pretty sure some asshole sat there for hours, typing in every offensive word he could think of and this is the only thing he came up with.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Actually, the full list of words in the game was leaked the other day:

http://rush68.net/u/files/scribfull.txt

Sure enough, "sambo" is in there, and it was only a matter of time before someone tried it out.

Just because you've never heard the term "sambo" doesn't mean it's not a racial epithet.

I take the developers 100% at face value when they say it was an unfortunate coincidence. I am absolutely not demanding a recall or anything like that, I am still looking forward to playing this game, and I think anybody who gets even a little bit upset over this is way over-reacting.

By the same token, though, it seems silly to get outraged over people pointing out what happened. Like it or not, it is an unfortunate confluence of a racial epithet and an image associated with racist depictions of black people. The kotaku article seemed very reasonable, and none of the comments I saw had anything unkind to say about the developers. Who are the idiots you're refering to and what did they do that's supposed to be so idiotic?

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

Does anyone know how to finish 3-5? I returned the lamb to the flock and was able to get rid of the wolf without scaring the lambs. The star still wont show. Is there something else i need to do to complete the level?

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

I jumped in the water and the fox jumped in with me, I climbed out and then fried him with a toaster. Put a leash on the lamb and a boat in the water to walk across.

Re: scribblenauts anyone?

MC, that is almost the exact same thing that I did for that one.

Only when I got to the water I just pulled the poor thing in the water with me and made it climb in, swim across, and climb back out.

I did the same thing with the toaster but to get he lamb across i summoned wings and placed it in a basket and flew back to the flock. It still wouldn't let me finish.
