I'm still not sure about this game, but the commercial ROCKS! It takes balls to run an ad like this.

Just got this from Gamefly, and hopped online to race. 204 total online players.
Enough to race, but that seems pretty low for a new title. Anyway, played 3 races, and I think its still just average. It goes back to GF and I go back to Split.

The reviews for this have been pretty decent. I'll probably still pick it up, but still poor timing, not only with the Split/Second release but on the heels of Red Dead and Alan Wake, which im sure a lot of folks are still playing.

I really don't like the look of this game, like it's title, it's all just so blurry - and everything seems to be made out of light with no discernible textures and all that lens-flare - it's like something I might see while squinting or after rubbing my eyes for a while.

I had more fun with Blur in 30 minutes than I did in 3 hours with Split/Second.
Now that I've gotten a handful of hours into the game, I'm enjoying it even more. Love the way the game is laid out and overall look and style. Compared to S/S there just feels like a lot more to do and that I have a lot more control in the races.

Is the full game much different from the beta? I played a bunch of the beta but started getting tired of it after a while. If I end up getting a kart racer, I'm leaning more towards ModNation Racers at the moment, although I'd eventually like to get Blur as well.

The game definitely has bad timing, coming out with Split and Modnation.

For those that bought Blur, do any of the cars handle better than the demo?
The car in the Split/Second demo handled like shit, but it was noticeably different/better right off the bat in the full game.

The first car I drove in multi (I cant remember which one) handled better, but another one was just as loose.

(And I really like that kind of stuff.) Overall I just prefer the arcade feel the game has. IMO S/S kind of feels like it's on rails compared to Blur.

Gramps get BLUR! The Beta got old because of limited tracks, modes and cars, etc. The Full game offers a plethora of vehicles, mods, tracks, modes, challenges, etc.
The single player also has a nice progression and the boss cars you earn in SIngle player come over with you to the MP. You can issue friend challenges and so on.
Come to the Darkside, besides I know you want to play with me even more!!!

Sounds like they changed their opinion. http://www.penny-arcade.com/2010/5/31/
Alright, the joy portion of the presentation is over. I am as angry as I could possibly be at Blur, as a videogame, and at its black womb Bizarre Creations.
The last time I saw a product this unstable was with Rainbow Six: Raven Shield and Pandora Tomorrow - their server browsers (remember those?) would crash one-hundred percent of the time if populated with more than a certain number of hosts. Before that it was Tribes 2, a noble game, but delivered in such ruins that (as I have said) they once released a patch that removed the previous patch.
Once we'd obtained sufficient level to take part in Blur's Team Racing modes, things went desperately awry. Blur might crash three times in an hour, hard locks that necessitate manual shutdown. I have often said that, more often than not, fond wishes for improvement between the "beta" phase and the retail shelf are misspent. This isn't something that happens a statistically significant percentage of the time. This, however, is something new: a retail release that appends to its previously smooth contours row upon row of toxic barbs.
I've always felt like I understood something about Bizarre Creations games, that their thesis was one with which I was perhaps uniquely resonant: the joy of a perfect run, pegged somewhere between mastery and the Zen moment. There's definitely something to like about Blur, and we put up with it for a few nights. In an effort to wring some juice out of my purchase I plowed myself into the ordinary, reliable part of the game, the single player, finding it ordinary and reliable - something had happened. Some quality previously held by Blur had evaporated, and like Modern Warfare 2, the urge to continue moving my hands on the controller in the interim period between these betrayals was gone. I'm incredibly ashamed to have recommended it.

And yet he fancies himself as a writer - though his writing isn't necessarily bad, just overwritten and overwrought.

Re: Blur -new racing game from Bizarre Creations (360/PS3)
I've had ONE crash while playing BLUR online and it didn't even crash me to dashboard. It just crashed our party and I ended up in a MP game with randoms. He's making it seem like the online is completely unstable. I played with a group of folks yesterday for at least 6 hours and had only the one crash, otherwise we played regular 20 player races with no issues, switched to Motor Mash with no issues and switched again to Team Racing with no issues.
I can handle a crash or two and still not write the game off. I've had way more in sessions of Bad Company 2 online then BLUR and yet I still say it's an awesome game.
The racing is obviously not going to be for everyone but if they were looking for straight up racing, BLUR offers that as well in the form of Hardcore. It's straight up racing, plain and simple.
While you can definitely go from first to last in a heartbeat, you can also go from last to middle of the pack pretty quick as well. It's no different than any other shoot'em up racer. I like Split/Second a lot and I own both. I like Split/Seconds Single Player but I find the fast paced, crazy BLUR MP to be a ton of fun with friends, etc. just laughing, blowing shit up and having a good time.
I think the rank system, challenges, mod's and load-outs offer a nice little touch for online play.
I'm not saying it's better than Split/Second, I think they are both great games and both worth owning once they hit a price point that is comfortable for folks. Me, I just bit the bullet and bought both now.

I haven't played Multiplayer for S/S yet, but I played Blur MP for hours last night and into this morning, until I finally had to go to bed at 4AM.
The game is a freaking blast, even better with friends. As long as there are not more than 2 random asshats in your game and people are vocal about what happens and such.. it is a laugh riot!
