Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Just finished it at 4 1/2 hours, with only 45% items found.

Don't know what else to say other then that this game has now set the bar for XBLA. I've played $60 retail games that weren't as good as this.

I really do hope they bring this to psn, but I won't hold my breath that Microsoft will let that happen. Guess I'm just going to have to buy a 360

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Game of the year so far. I know there has not been that many great games so far this year, and I fully feel that Batman will probably top this, but I am 10 hours in, trying to get the last 3 or 4 items and I am loving it. Better then Wolverine and Godfather 2, which really were sort of the best games of the year for me at least. I LOVE THIS GAME, and 15 bucks is stupid cheap. I would have paid full price for this game.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Finished it. 100% items. Took 11.5 hours. The last few frustrating items became easy once I got the hook and unlimited foam. Now I am going to try my hand at the challenge rooms, and when those get frustrating, I will go for the speed run.

I said it before, but I am saying it again. Game of the Year. Even when Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, and Batman come out...I bet this game is still thrown in the mix.

Anyone else disappointed that the second gamer pic that unlocks when you get all of your armor looks almost the same as the first pic?

As someone said above, they just set the bar for XBLA games WAY to high with this one. It should have been at least 20 bucks if not more.

Sure enough. As overpriced as Death Tank seemed before at 1200 points, it looks a lot worse now.

I don't think it's a coincidence that TMNT Reshelled and Madballs : Babo Invasion got a sudden price drop from 1200 to 800 after Shadow Complex got priced.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Challenge rooms done.... Those were fun, if not as hard as I was thinking they would be. I did not get gold in every room though, so I would imagine that would be hard. I found the challenge maps in Bionic Commando to be MUCH harder, but I think CHAIR probably has a few DLC's coming out that will make me eat my words.

That last room on Challenge pack 3 was a blast though.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Speed Boost question for those of you that have got 100%:

Spoiler:
There are at least 2 places where I need to remove an obstacle by slamming through it, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the acceleration room is for these places. Is there a general tip you guys have for figuring out where to start?

It is probably the two spots I am thinking of....
Spoiler:

One is in a room with a blue box on the left and a long platform above you. The blue box is on the bottom left of the room. I kept trying to run from the right room and jump in and could never get speed. Finally It came to me to go on the room on the left. You will go down a dirt slop, then run right full speed into the room. You will loop under the long platform, and jump at the last second to land into the blue crate. If I recall it was REAL easy once I started from the left room...

The other room has a blue box on a hole. The room to the LEFT is a crazy LARGE room with a platform that shoots this little bomb out that blows you to the right on a lader that leads up to the room with the blue crate. On the very right of the top platform, as you hang off this platform, make a long straight path with your foam gun, then run across into the right room and destroy the box...

hope that helps...if those are your spots. I know I was not really clear on my descriptions, so I hope they help.

Those are them. I ended up getting them. I did something different on the 2nd one, but I'm sure that'll help someone else.

would you mind telling me what you did on the second one? I love how there are so many ways to attack problems in this game...

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Spoiler:
I actually started on the middle platform and starting running left (dropping down twice) and ran up the left wall, jumped off the underside of the ledge onto the top platform. Crashed through the 2 crates up there and then jumped over to the room with the covered hole.

sweet...I should have guessed with the other boxes in the room that they wanted you to go through them.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

I'm making my way through the game. I didn't even know I realize I could press X (I think that's it) for a minor speed boost. I didn't even need it until that one part where you just have to do it in order to get past that box on the conveyor belt.

I was really into the game, loving every part of it, but then I discovered the
Spoiler:
armor suit, the mega speed boost thing, and all of that
and that just took the game to an entirely different level.

Yeah, I did last night. Must have patched something.

You know why this game is genius? There was a part last night, shortly after getting the jump boost where you have to go very high up to progress. It took me ages, but I figured out a pattern to jump up and made it out of there (with a sore right thumb). I died before getting to the next save room, but this time I made it up much quicker. Died again and only then did I discover that I was supposed to shoot pipes and flood the room! It's nice that even the toughest challenges can be tackled in numerous ways.

Yay! I beat the game for the first (of many, I'm sure) time. I think my next run through will be on the hardest difficulty, followed by a 13% run through.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Played a little bit earlier today. So far i really like the exploring aspect much more than Metroid. I always got lost in Metroid since everything looked similar. This is a bit easier to navigate and if i get frustrated I can always turn on the blue pointer.

There was a spot early in the game, like the first two rooms of the complex where you had to use it to get past a security camera to a door.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Well, you apparently don't have to.

I remember that spot. The camera moved from foreground to where you are to the background, and when it was in the background that's when I would run (without pressing dash).

I remember it said to dash, but I just thought it meant to run over there, so that's what I did and I made it. I thought it was odd, but it worked so I just went with it. Knowing this now makes me really wish I had it as I made my way through almost half of the game without it, if not further. I'm not quite sure how far into the game I am now.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

I talked to someone I know who is a huge Castlevania SOTN (and the like) fan and he proceeded to tell me there is nothing original about this game and it doesn't move the genre forward in any way, shape, or form. WTF?! I hate everybody I know.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"

Does the mere fact that it brings the gameplay style back to prominence in a way that doesn't start with "the new GBA Metroid game" not move the genre forward in some way?
