I just checked the demo. It sure is a classic, but I'm not sure it's different enough from the first game to warrant a purchase yet. I can wait for a sale. Nice to include new levels -- I wonder how different they are from the original game.

Also checked out Voodoo Dice. Yeesh. It looks so much like an indie game. It stutters and flickers. It plays a lot like Cuboid on the PS3, but it feels less clever and looks so bad it actually hurts your eyes. I'm kinda surprised it made it through quality control and got approved as an official XBLA game. I guess it has multiplayer, but I don't know how that would work.

I played a little more Aqua. Yeah, the escort missions still aren't that much fun, but the other missions are pretty cool. I think it's a fairly original twin-stick shooter (if such a thing exists). I'm looking forward to playing it some more.

Still haven't checked the demo of Band of Bugs, but I really need to before it goes back up in price. Anyone else get that one this week?

I picked up Lazy Raiders and the Snowball Fight game since it seemed fun. Can't decide on Band of Bugs, but will probably skip it and the Madballs game.

Played the demo of Doom II this morning (It's only a 32mb download LOL). It is a blast and I would certainly buy it in a heartbeat at 400 points but Decker is right, it's not that different from the first game. It's more enemies and new levels. I played the PC version a good while 15 years ago, but always thought I overpaid for it (or my college friends at the time did ;))

Unless you were being sarcastic, I imagine it will be a sale on movies in the Zune marketplace.

Snoopy! I'm looking forward to that demo. Not into flight games at all anymore (wanna say Wing Commander 3 & TIE Fighter were the last ones I played) but LOVE Peanuts.

You never played Crimson Skies? I think you'll be presently surprised if it turns out to be anything like it.

Nope, but thinking back, I did play the Rogue Squadron series.

I went through and cleared out my arcade/indie demo list last night. Gave about 8-10 of them a spin. Only one really impressed me, PB Winterbottom. That game just oozes style. Loved the art direction, music, story, etc. I wasn't too quick to pull the trigger on it yet though. I'm not sure if I'm ready to tackle another game with Braid's (and to an extent) R&C: Crack in Time's play mechanics. Also my backlog doesn't need another game right now.

Did anyone buy this one? How is the full game?

Two   for Lazy Raiders! Definitely well worth it for 400 points. Had a nice relaxing pace to it. Love the Avatar outfit too!

What about the DLC for Scene It: Box Office Smash? Nothing at the Oscars, nothing now. I need it to go on sale to satisfy my 100% completion OCD!

Could not agree more. I'm loving this game. Perfect game to chill and play a few levels when you need a quick gaming fix. Need to finish it so I can get my hat to go with the outfit.

BTW, I have been playing a lot of Trials HD. I hit the wall though on the very last level of Hard. I can not get up the first steep ramp at the start of the level. 100 tries at least with no success. I did get past the first Extreme level, but the second one broke my spirit pretty quickly.

Maybe I am just missing something but I was not a fan of Lazy Raiders at all. It reminded me of the games on the iPhone with imprecise accelerometer controls.

I mostly like it, but sometimes I find it hard to see traps with the camera pulled out so far. I think you need a giant HDTV to play this game properly. I do like that there really isn't any penalty for repeated failure or multiple deaths though. It does take some of the pressure off.

BTW : Major Nelson called this week's relase "Snoopy Arcade". Is that an official title change?

Maybe it's because I don't play a lot of platformers, but last week's Ben 10 XBLA game was actually pretty good. Priced right at 800 points too.

A 5.5 from OXM and a 4.5 from IGN are the only reviews available. Doesn't sound too promising.

Earthworm Jim HD trailer. I'm a little surprised it doesn't look a little more spruced up. If the gameplay holds up though, it'll be good enough.

You turn it with the stick so I found it pretty responsive. You do have to adjust to how he slides, but I found the game very playable and fun. I finished it up this weekend and even got all the achievements though all but one are done just by completing the game which I like. The complete avatar costume is pretty nice.

I'm a bit disappointed in the big pack for Trials HD. I finished all the hard tracks finally on the main game and after playing through all the tracks for a few days decided to pay the extra $5 for more tracks. The Medium tracks they added are great and so are most of the hard ones, but Skyway and Prison Break and not Hard tracks at all. Those fit fully into Extreme and I hate the extreme tracks. They are just too unplayable to be fun so that is 4 tracks I can't play. Not only that but one of the tracks requires you to unlock the minibike which no one I know has been able to do. That is basically 5 out of the 23 added tracks that are worthless to me. I guess still worth $5, but I wish they had stuck with adding medium and regular hard tracks. Adding tracks for the 1% of people that can actually play the extreme ones seems a waste.

Bringing this over from the Sonic 4 thread, from February:

Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi submitted to Korean ratings board by Microsoft

Microsoft Korea has submitted Sega's Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure to the Korean ratings board, leading to speculation that the Dreamcast titles are racing to XBLA. Sega was unable to officially comment on the ratings.

Sonic Adventure popped up like a blue blur on radar back in January, while Siliconera points out that Crazy Taxi has been banging around as a rumored XBLA release for a little while. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it wouldn't be surprising to hear more about the titles then -- you know, unless another ratings board accidentally posts a classification.
It looks like Jet Set/Grind Radio may also be coming, according to the upcoming XBLM list at CAG.

Don't care much about Sonic Adventure, but Crazy Taxi would be crazy fun on the Arcade.

That's some bonerific news! And the sequel was just as good - hopefully it's both in one updated package. I'd pay $20 for that (or $10 for each individually), but I won't complain if it's less.

Very wrong here.

The music in the sequel was good (i really like the "I love a love a love you" song) but the spray painting mechanic of button presses instead of sweeps of the thumbsticks was a bad move imo.

slop101 06-02-10 12:34 AM

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose

I don't even remember the spray painting - what left an impression were the city and the games levels.

I much preferred the first Jet Set/Grind game myself too. I think the environments got a little too big in the sequel, and I had a bit of an issue trying to figure out what I was supposed to do/go next. The sequel was still a good game, but it never grabbed me like the first.
