Oh, I know what "Throwback" means, it's SouthEnd Interactive™ that doesn't. Throwback games are modern games done in a retro-style like Rocket Riot, Mega Man 10 and 3D Dot Heroes. As I understand it, this is a revamped game like Bionic Commando Rearmed or Monkey Island Special Edition -- an old game done up with new graphics and features (i.e. just the opposite of Throwback).

Yes there is. As there is in Monkey Island and R-Type revamps as well.

They say it's hard as sin. While I'm not expecting to get 200/200 out of it (or even 180 for my 90% rule ;)), I'll be busting my ass to not end up with a number other than 0 or 5 at the end of my e-peen score. OCD FTW!

It has achievements worth 8, 11, 13, 13, 14, and 21 points. Why not 5, 10, 15, 15, 15, 20 other than just to be a dick? ;)

Finally, pinata wins something and I'm not even a little bit jealous. I hated the Dishwasher demo. Couldn't get into it at all. It was always $5 on ebay for sale until mysteriously all those XBLA codes disappeared once Amazon changed their online purchasing policy. I bought a shit-ton of games off ebay back then, but never bit on that one.

Damn. If I had known there was a contest, I wouldn't have purchased it last night. I'm definitely enjoying it for $5, (a lot better than some of the other side-scrolling button mashing beat'em-ups), but free would definitely have been better!

i don't remember it all that well, but wasn't the fun of playing Tecmo finding the players like Walter Payton and running him ragged, where he couldn't be touched. did they have the real names back then or did we go by the #'s on the jerseys? i could have sworn i remember guys like Singletary or Montana...

They had the NFLPA license back then. Now Madden has the exclusive license.

As to the review, I wanted to get irritated by the "if you played it years ago, it's the same game" vibe, but that's exactly what the game is. Playing against my buddies in small chunks will be great, but it's certainly not there to take the place of Madden.

Still worth the 800 points in my opinion.

Every XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) game has a free demo. It is a requirement from MSoft. I downloaded the Tecmo Bowl demo this afternoon.

Game Demos are for RETAIL games. Go to the Tecmo Bowl "page" and you'll see "Trial Game".

no i found it, but i check that demo page pretty regularly to see if new demos and if i hadn't asked i never would have known. it didn't show up on 1st of XBLA page either.

I downloaded the demo this morning and played it for 10 minutes before I went to work and the game play is pretty decent but good lord are the pixels small. I thought I was staring at micro miniatures: the football experience. I dunno, maybe I'm going blind or need to sit closer to the tv for games like this but this might be too small to enjoy properly. I think this game would be fine on an old 25" crt...but 42" plasma is just not happening for this one.

Hell yes every one. Get this game. There's a reason it's near the top of the XBLA activity chart month after month despite no multiplayer, a high price tag and never having been on sale before. It's really that good (though pretty hard). It has TONS of replayability.

Work can't end soon enough. I have been wanting to buy this game for a while now but since i didn't bite at launch and it was so popular i just knew it would eventually get a sale.

I even played the demo every so often to get a fix. :lol:

I know I'm a heretic, but I just don't care about this game at all. It just didn't do anything for me other than annoy the piss out of me and everytime my buddy talks it up, he hits all the wrong notes.
