Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
I've been debating whether or not to get this for a few days now and if so, if I should get the regular or Renegade edition.
I think I'm going to get the Renegade version tomorrow while trading in some old games to get the price down. Might as well upgrade from the regular version since the case seems nice and it looks like people are going through all sorts of trouble just to make a custom stand for it. I was going to get it for PS3 just because I don't want to spend $100-200 on a game and then have the system break down, which was my worry if I got it for the 360... and then I realized all of my RB/GH guitars are for my 360, so I'll have to get it for that if I want to utilize the guitar play with any of the songs. lol |

OK, I've been trying it out. It's got a lot of depth. There's a lot more to it than playing the guitar or drums in Rock Band or Guitar Hero. That being said, I think the amount of knobs and buttons it has is actually its one downside. Half the time I find myself accidentally hitting the crossfader while twisting the balance knob or some other slip of the hand. And the fact that you can't initiate eurphoria with a motion like you can initiate overdrive in RB with the guitar is vexing as well. Also doing the rewind almost always results in me losing my multiplier.
That being said though, I actually find the controller rather simplistic. Ultimately it's three buttons, a slider, a knob, and the euphoria button. And if you want to break it down even further, you're technically not even required to use the knob or the euphoria button, as they're really just for point scoring purposes. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it after spending more time with it and you get more comfortable with the controller. (Which will hopefully be the case.) |

Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
Thanks for the reply. I think there aren't even that many guitar songs in the game... I think I saw maybe a dozen. So maybe I'll just get it for PS3 after all.
I'm going back and forth again. lol |

Most of that is just really getting use to the setup and the movements the game has you make. I'm pretty sure given a day or two most of these issues will not even be there for you anymore. My biggest problem is doing Guitar Hero for 5 years now and forgetting what it was like the first time I held the controller. It's been a long time since I've had to completely relearn something like this but I can already see the improvement.

Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
I am really loving this game! Once I got better at the crossfader, the game became way more enjoyable. Realizing it doesn't have to be dead center to register as "centered" helped a lot. My only issue is in Euphoria mode, the game crossfades automatically for you and when it is done, the crossfader has to be in the correct position. Same sort of thing with rewinding. Soon as you end euphoria/rewind you have to quickly think "OK, where the heck should the crossfader be???"
Most of the mixes are great but I have to agree with the Black Eyed Peas mix suckage! |
Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
Game is confirmed amazing and easily the music GOTY. I've got every mix 5*'d on hard and am going back through to do them all on expert. Got quite a few top 10 scores already!
Picked up the GameStop preorder song code and can't wait to try those mixes out. DLC might be expensive but from what I've heard people say about these tracks, it's well worth it. |
Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
Beatles Rock Band is easily my music GOTY, although I am really enjoying DJ Hero.

My new favorite song in the game! The beginning is amazing to hear and pretty fun to play, and then it switches near the end of the song to constant crossfade spikes and one-direction scratches, which is amazing to play and pretty fun to hear. I would've bought this in a heartbeat had it not been given out for free, and this is saying that you can't just skip DLC for the price.

But more importantly, do you enjoy the remix/mashup style of music?
Played what looks like to be 29% of the game last night. I started out on medium and was ranging from 4-5 stars for most songs. I played up until the Grandmaster Flash set, then jumped ahead to Jazzy Jeff. That was a fun little setlist. I found that as I played, I became more comfortable with playing by feel with the crossfader, flicking it to center and back rather than holding and pushing it. So then I popped up to Expert for the first song in the game and 5 starred it. I might hop up to hard for regular play now though. What are you guys playing on now? Well, except Kij cause I'm pretty sure you mentioned how awesome you are already. 'mallet - i didn't see any of your scores on the leaderboards, what gives? Speaking of leaderboards. WTF is the deal with the friends filter showing EVERYONE... sucks when only 3/99 people on there actually have the game and you have to scroll through page after page to see them. Fro, I'm looking at you and Gramps. |
Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
I'm playing on Hard. I can 5-star a lot of them, but on some of the tougher songs, I get anywhere from 2 to 4 stars on my first playthrough. Once I unlock and play all of the songs once, I'll go back and try and 5-star them all on Hard.

Which leads me to another point about the difficulty. It's easy to make the jump thanks to the no fail mode. At no point am I under any kind of pressure while playing. I didn't think the no fail thing was really that big of a deal, but it stands out now that I've moved up and am definitely running into a few spots that would probably cause me to stop were there a performance meter. Now I can just get through it and move on, which is really the best learing device anyway. Great move on their part.

Also, I HATE the DJ/Guitar Mix fact that it shows both the guitar and DJ tracks when playing in single player. WTF!?

Activision always sends us PS3 copies of the "Hero" games for review. The nice thing is that the controller was snappy and responsive right out of the box without any calibration, which has never been my experience with the Guitar Hero controllers on the PS3.
Yeah, My calibration was tight too - but I redid it and had it up around 38ms for audio and 40ish for video. |
Re: The Official DJ Hero Thread of BPMs, Faders and Scratches
AFAIK, Flay always requests the 360. I think they just have us tagged for the PS3 or something.
