Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

Amazon.com's Mass Effect 2 Listing has some details on what to expect from BioWare's sci-fi RPG sequel. Word is:

The second chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy takes you to the darkest reaches of space, where you must uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of humans across many worlds. Prepare yourself for a suicide mission to save mankind. Travel the galaxy to assemble a team of soldiers and combat specialists, and launch an all-out assault on the heart of enemy territory.

• The second act of BioWare's epic sci-fi trilogy continues the story of Commander Shepard and humanity's first steps onto the galactic stage
• Success - or failure - depends heavily on the crew you assemble and their loyalty to you and the mission
• Stunning graphics and a refined dialog system will draw you into the story like never before
• Numerous improvements to the intense, third-person shooter combat
• Deep character customization options let you create your own vision of Commander Shepard

I thought you weren't going to be playing as Shepard? Anyway, I'd like to be upload my saved Shepard from the first game into this one. Rather than creating a totally new guy that is supposed to be the same guy.

Mass Effect 2 Release Date Announced

"The game is scheduled to launch on January 26 in North America and January 29 in Europe.

A slew of pre-order bonus items have also been revealed. Pre-ordering Mass Effect 2 at GameStop gives players access to two special items. The Terminus Armor, which increases run speed and personal shields, and the M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon, a high-powered gravity gun.

Pre-ordering the game at other retailers gives players The Inferno Armor, which recognizes elevated heart rates and gives a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard, along with an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers."

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

Very cool--Cant wait!
I like the idea of in game gifts for preorders rather than a miniature statue or helmet (useless) but its hard to know if or how good these perks are.

Kind of like how Fable 2 you could win a 'dueling pistol' that sounded cool before the game came out but afterwards it turned out to be pretty generic.

Benefit of those items long-term will not outweigh a good purchase price.

I tried it for a couple days and got bored real easily with it. If there is a secret to getting into and really enjoying the game, I didn't see it.

Sort of. http://kotaku.com/5384055/mass-effec...ing-to-the-ps3

Seems like it might come out on PS3 later on after the 360 and PC releases given that there's been some talk about it.

How far did you get? I think the common word is that it's a bit slow until you get off the first planet.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I'm about 10 hours into ME1 and love it. Like a poster above, I found it hard to get into --- at first. But now that I'm on my second planet, I love the battle system and just now find myself getting familiar with how to use my biotics. Good stuff... I'm def in for ME2.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I loved the first one. Even finished it. But I was really put off at the lack of DLC which Bioware was promising. They did release the Arena not long ago, but it has been so long since I finished the game, I have little desire to revisit it. I will get the sequal but more likely after it has been out for a few months. I hope Bioware delivers on the promise of DLC in this new one as well as Dragon Age.

Jeeze, 10 hours and you're only on the 2nd planet? I finished the game in just 12 hours, and I saw pretty much all there was to see. My complaint with the game (besides the bugs, glitches and the overall sense of not quite being a finished product) was that if felt like it was over too soon after it really got going.

Collector's Edition - http://kotaku.com/5397738/mass-effec...dvd-book-comic

The collector's edition will come in a tin case and include the game, a 48-page hardcover "Art of Mass Effect 2" book, Issue 1 of the Mass Effect Redemption comic book, and a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes and making-of videos.

The $69.99 edition of the game will also include unique in-game weapons and armor.
Doesn't seem like much, but at least it's only $10 more.

I did some side missions... then I discovered they're overly repetitive and had little payoff. I finished the game in 18 hours total.
