I'm trying to blow through ME1 before I start ME2. But I can't figure out how to land on the random planets in the universe? I try to use the galaxy map thing..but that just lets me look at the details of the planet..How do I land?

You can only land on certain planets. Some can only be surveyed if they have some item on them while others are just planets with some fake history.

Anyway, it will give you a clear "land" option when you pick a planet that can be landed upon.

You can only land on certain planets. On the ones you cand land on it should tell you which button to hit to land, I think it's A.

Some of them you'll just survey to get resources, other you'll have to find when you land while you're driving around. They're not all on the map, but they're usually close to an object that is on the map so watch your radar.

woot! You can import your character's appearance, exactly as he/she looked in ME1.

Now, should I go Paragon or Renegade... ?

Yep, my character was one ugly mofo but he was my own. I've been trying to go paragon but they have new options where you chose in cut scenes... and in renegade some of those are too tempting to pass up.

There's usually at least one landable planet per system. Sometimes two if one is part of the plot and the other is a side quest.

I saw that, too. I thought I was gonna have to change her appearance. I almost toyed with the idea of
Spoiler:
changing her appearance as part of the cloning process, like it went bad or good in my characters case

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

Played about 6 hours last night. Got Archangel and The Professor. Did a whole lot of stuff around Omega.

I'm not totally sold on the changes in combat/inventory, but it seems faster and is much simplified. I don't really like not having access to all my weapons at any time and I don't like not being able to compare stats directly. For example, in the middle of the Archangel mission, I get a new Assault Rifle that it auto-equipped. It was definitely not what I wanted to use right then, but I seemed stuck with it.

The leveling is greatly simplified too. 1000 XP = a new level. Each full mission gives 1000 XP on completion meaning 1 mission = 1 level. Not bad. Side missions seem to give 40 XP each. So 25 side quests = 1 level. So far those have been pretty easy to find and not really difficult at all. Hopefully some of the unexplored worlds have larger side quests, maybe with greater XP rewards.

Oh, and I got drunk as fuck with the doc

Speaking of Paragon/Renegade and the doc. It seems your scar gets more pronounced as you get more evil. There's an eventual upgrade for the ship you can buy to get rid of your scar no matter how evil you are.

And I kinda like the interactive Paragon/Renegade actions using the triggers.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I also don't care for the inventory system. I liked the old one where you equipped weapons, armor, omni tools, etc. Comparing stats was vital.

I like how the side quests complete when you're done with the mission, but it shpuld give you the option of returning. What if I missed something? Do I get to go back or am I screwed?

I am trying to do a handful of sidequests before I even do the main quests.

You can upgrade the ship? That reminds me, what's this I hear about models of ships?

I didn't notice the scar, good catch.

The interrupt system seems to be awesome. I only used it once, but it definitely has potential.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I saw some weird shit at shops on Omega. Like a magazine for 4 credits. I think there was a model there too, but I didn't give it much thought. I'm not sure if they'll have any impact other than trinkets. Hell, now I wonder if I should go by that magazine in case it leads to a mission.

Okay, I haven't been there so that explains it.

What about the fish for the tank? I read you can get some during missions?

I'd buy everything

Haven't noticed, but that's probably the same idea: from shops. In fact, now that you mention it, maybe all those models/magazines/fish/trinkets just show up in the captain's quarters?

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

The models you can buy, you can put in your quarters on the ship. Sort of like you can find your old helmet in a mission and that goes in there, too. Just sort of collectible things.

As for the ship's upgrade
Spoiler:
You can upgrade the hull. I just did. Makes it stronger in case of an attack. Which leads me to believe at some point you will be attacked, and having it will likely cause less damage and casualties.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I've done some mineral scanning on uncharted worlds and that's tedious as hell. I'm working towards the Ship Scanner Upgrade, hoping it'll make that easier/faster. Does anyone have any info on that before I waste my time with it?

Oh, I did find my old helmet. Okay, that makes sense.

Zaeed is available now. There was a small update before I started the game, and Zaeed was listed under "New Content Available."

421 megs for the download. I assume that it's a character and mission a la "The Stone Prisoner" from DA?

Played for about 6 hours last night, just got to the doctor. (I like to explore and talk to everyone, so it tends to extend my playtime.) I like the simplified combat and inventory, but I am extremely confused as to why they added these "heat clips" or whatever into the game mechanics. They seemed to go out of their way to explain why you didn't need ammo in the first game, and still came up with a pretty elegant way to limit your fire (overheating)... and then they throw that all away in the sequel?

I also like this addition.
Spoiler:
If only to punch that reporter bitch in the face again. I'm Paragon, but some shit just won't fly with Deuce Shepard.

I like the overall more streamlined feel to the game thus far. And while I find that it's a bit awkward and can take me out of the game environment a bit, I like the mission summary things where it gives a rundown on everything you did and got during a main mission. If only to verify everything I got as a lot of times I would see stuff pop up but be focused elsewhere and not really grasp it.

That's because they're trying to expand the market to the Gears/Halo crowd. They need to hit X to reload. They sure as fuck don't want to wait for a cool-down cycle!

So you actually can get resources from a planet without landing? Does Surveying the planet happen automatically? Or must you actively press a button (example X-Survey) to get resources?
