Why do you have to fight? Are you elementary or high school?

I have no problem using a disc. I don't see what the big deal is.

Based on the timelines, I don't think its far-fetched to assume that MS had a 1-year exclusive agreement for streaming consoles, and a 2-year exclusive on dashboard application. Since it came out for Xbox last Novemeber, and now its been a year and PS3 is getting it, but they can't give us an App until late next-year...

I think anyone looking for a second/bedroom Netflix player should be looking at Roku. It's much cheaper than a PS3 or 360. The SD version is only $79 and the HD one is $99, both are wireless. Another alternative is the Samsung BD-P3600 player. It is less than $250 and plays BD, Netflix, Blockbuster, Youtube and Pandora. Using a PS3 as a second Netflix player means changing discs, charging controllers and/or buying an additional remote control. Not worth the hassle or money.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense how they can write a disc-based solution here and now, but an XMB-compatible app is like proving Fermat's Last Theorem.

Exclusivity makes the most sense.

plus Roku has lots of other channels, and seems to add functionality quite often. If I was looking for a primary player for NF, that's what I'd do. I don't think anyone would buy a PS3 or Xbox primarily for NF, but it could be a difference maker if they're also interested in gaming, blu-ray, or twitter on your TV.

It's just a little inconvenient. I like just being able to turn on the 360 and stream something like Wall E or a children's show like Thomas for the kids rather than having to go get a DVD. This disc will just make it that much more of a hassle.

For me, a bigger inconvenience is the lack of an IR port in the PS3 (something that they initially included in the PSP, for Christ's sake). I like being able to control the Netflix interface with my Harmony remote. Having to navigate and control sound with two remotes while my kids argue about what they want to see next is a pain and I don't want to have to get a $60 adapter to get it done. I think it's great that the option is coming to PS3, but I'll stick with the 360 streaming for now.

It is inconvenient, but I don't think it will prevent me from watching something if I know what I want to watch. But if it was on the XMB I would see myself spontaniously browsing for stuff more often. With the disc, I'll probably only put it in, if I know I have something in my queue that I want to watch.

You are underestimating the lazy. Netflix instant watch is now inconveniently not instant.

Yeah, same thing why I've copied a few dvds to my PS3, it's just easier.

Same here man. I have to put a game in whenever I play, it is the same thing.

The Nyko Bluewave is $15 (on sale for $10 a lot) and works perfect with my Harmony 880. The only thing you have to do is turn on the PS3 by hand or with a controller unless you want to drop the $60 for the adapter.

Do you put a disc in for any of the PixelJunk games? Wipeout? Flower?

It's not the same thing. :)

The disc isn't a big deal really but if I can just reach over and turn on my 360 instead, I'd do that.

It's almost like having to put a disc in to use the web browser.

We are all just fucking lazy. [Me 10 years from now]You mean I actually have to push buttons on a controller to play games. Lame! Anything more than eye movement is to much work.[/Me 10 years from now]

10 years? In 6 years I expect any game I have to use my hands on to be a baby's toy.

To be honest I don't have many PSN games, and the ones I do I don't play anymore. I know, I know, I'm waiting for the flames to come.

Yeah, putting in a disc doesn't bother me at all either. Of course, I'm kind of quality snob so the chances that I would utilize this service when there are, oh I don't know, Blu-ray discs available are slim to none.

I just don't have enough time in a day to worry about how convenient my movie watching can be.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Some of it is laziness, but it's very likely that this thing isn't more than 50MB or so, if it's even that much. There's no need to put something like that on a disc. It's much more understandable with BD movies and retail games that take up a lot more space. How big is the 360 app?

Although that makes me wonder... perhaps this disc has some sort of free "demo" of the service, which is actually video content stored on the disc itself?

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

In other good news, I finally spent a little bit of time last night figuring out how to create new folders in my "Video" and "Game" sections of the XMB to organize my downloads a bit.

Apparently I have over 80 games (full and demo) and I forgot about some of the ones that were down at the bottom of the list. Gotta love the 320GB HDD.

Is this only for US or can us Canucks take advantage of this.

That doesn't seem to work on mine. Firmware: 3.01. The only reason why I upgraded the firmware to 3.01 (from 2.8) was because I installed a new harddrive (500GB 7200RPM), ran into difficulties and thought it was a firmware level issue. (which it wasn't)

Anyone notice that the news ticker in the top right is gone? When did that change? Not that I'm complaining.

Also, is there a way to only get notifications when I get a message and not everytime friends go on/offline? I turned the notifications back on the other day when I realized I wasn't finding out about game invites until much later, but then I was being bombarded by notifications of friends signing on/off. Annoying.

Well, thanks to my cousin and his FAT32 reformated external HDD, I was able to swap out my near-full 60 GB drive for a new 320 GB drive from Amazon ($59.99 - $10 rebate). It went VERY smoothly and was far easier than I had been led to believe. Everything is intact, even my gameshared games. No more being stingy about install sizes. Very happy about it. -- celebrated by buying Trine!

A buddy of mine just had his 80gb crap out on him, and I'm starting to get a little nervous. I've never had a console die. I really shouldn't have to worry about this, and am beginning to think that I might as well own a 360.
