I assume you've changed the power saver settings in the XMB menu? How often do you use it? When you're not using it are you charging it or do you let it run all the way down first? Does it run the entire time you're watching a movie or do you let it power save off?

6 hours does seem a little low. All my controllers are over a year old and I used one to play a 12 hour session of Valkyria Chronicles just the other day. But I also typically cycle through all my controllers. And I also don't typically play such long sessions.

Worst case scenario, and a slight pain in the ass, but you can take the controllers apart and try and put in a new battery.

And from some of the posts I read, it seems that some of the 360 rechargeables can barely even hold a charge after a year. Of course I read all that after I purchased two of them.

No. I don't know. I have it set to whatever the default, out-of-the-box setting is.

How often do you use it?
Almost every day. But that's mostly for streaming stuff off my PC or watching blu-rays. I play games on it only a couple times a week, a couple hours at a time.

When you're not using it are you charging it or do you let it run all the way down first?
I let it run all the way down (or almost all the way) before recharging.

Does it run the entire time you're watching a movie or do you let it power save off?
I'm not aware of this option, but I probably won't use it since I do tend to pause, FF, rewind or pick menu options pretty often - but not so often as to halve the battery life.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

[Power Save Settings] has been added as an option under Settings.

To save power, the PS3 system and Wireless controllers can be set to turn off automatically after a certain period of inactivity.

System Auto-Off

After 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 Hours: The system turns off after the specified period of inactivity.
Off: The system is not set to turn off automatically.

Hint
The system will not turn off automatically under special conditions such as during gameplay, video playback or slideshow playback. If you want the system to turn off automatically even under these special conditions, select [Turn Off System Automatically Even Under Special Conditions] in the screen that is displayed after enabling the System Auto-Off option.

Controller Auto-Off

Off: The controller is not set to turn off automatically.
On: The controller turns off automatically.

Hint
When [Controller Auto-Off] is set to [On], the controller will turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity. If you want to use a controller that is turned off, press the PS button on the controller.
That's from the manual. Try turning that on, if you want, and see if it helps. This is what I do and if I need to pause FF etc and it's been ten minutes then a quick push of the PS button gets me back up and running.

This may not fit with your viewing styles, but it is an option.

Thanks, I'll try that out.

So my new Blu-Ray player is being delivered today.

Is there anything I should actually keep my PS3 for at this point?

If you only view the PS3 as a Blu-ray player then, no.

I guess the question is : Why buy a Blu Ray player if you already own a PS3?

Thursday DLC. You can't beat it. Way better than Tuesday's weak-ass version.

inFamous is supposed to be tits, and there's GodofWar3 but I guess you don't care for those sorts of games, so, sell sell sell!

Uncharted2, GTA5 (eventually), FF13 (but I believe this may be coming out on 360 at a later date), the list goes on...

So.. absolutely nothing of interest.

Actually I'm STUPIDLY excited for FF Versus XIII (so far, once I hear the characters talk I'm sure I'll be turned off) but I think that will follow the standard XIII and end up multi-platform, and if not, that's ONE game I'd need to borrow a friend's PS3 for. PixelJunk Dungeon sounds cool in idea, but PixelJunk is one for three with me (Eden being the only one I enjoyed) so I don't know on that yet.

Supposedly here are leaked pics of a slim PS3. This could be Sony's announcement at E3;

looks pretty cool actually if its real.

Looks slightly less Foreman grill-y... but now it looks like a Samsung product.

I dunno. I really like my PS3. Petty DLC (RB2, Fallout 3) gripes aside, I really think the PS3 is finally becoming a great standalone game console. Whether you find the exclusives worthwhile is a personal thing, so I can't really help you there. I just know that LittleBigPlanet, Warhawk, The Show, Uncharted, Pixeljunk Monsters... and I hope to add inFamous to that list... have been games I wouldn't do without.

Yeah, my PS3 is 90% BD player, but I wouldn't want to give up the gaming options. I've only played a half dozen retail games, but loved 'em all. Plus their PSN offerings are radically different than XBLA, which is a good thing.

I just wish they had demos for everything. Semi-frequent sales helps me look the other way on that front.

I am looking forward to checking out Infamous. If you can afford to keep it on the shelf, why sell it?

For 1-4? No, it's a dungeon crawler they're working on for a future release.

I saw on 1UP that Bionic Commando Rearmed is on $4.99 now. I think I'm going to have to bite.

Not only that, Rag Doll Kung Fu is free this week. That sucks for anyone that bought it already.

I haven't been able to download the update, anyone else having problems? I get logged in without a problem and the update starts, but never gets past 0%. I'm going to try again after work today, I assume the problem is that there are too many peeps trying to update at the same time I am.

Works fine. Of course, it is IR, so you need line of sight from your remote to the peripheral. Also, the shutdown mechanism seems to be a macro, but I think that's more because the only way to remotely shut down a PS3 is by hitting the PS button and choosing to shut off. Also, you can only pair one remote to the PS3, so you can't use the regular PS3 remote at the same time.

Other than that, it's got a nice form factor, it's smaller than I thought, and it's easy to set up. You obviously need an extra plug to plug it in, but I'm fine with that, my bluetooth remote always ran out of batteries anyway. I think the main problem people are going to have with this is the price... but it's my primary dvd player (despite Ocelot's recommendations) and it does what it says it's supposed to, so I'm happy.
