I totally agree with you... but then on the other hand, Wii's Twilight Princess game saves did opened that door. It's just matter of time for the PS3 get hacked, game saves or not.
We came a long way from game saves (remember how expensive the NES cartridge was for the build in battery thingy?). I wonder if there's a "standard" of some sort for game saves...

but why bother, unless you're running out of space. In my defense, if someone comes over and say "hey, you tried Home yet?" I'll show him/her Home "you mean that lame thing?"
It's all good, i agree that this is a super hyped thing, but hey, it's not all that bad. I just went to Home's arcade to play Ice Breaker and then realized i'm doing it with a PS3

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
I understand that but if Sony's piece of equipment is so different as they claim it to be then there should be some safeguards in place to prevent the majority of piracy. I'm sure there are some already playing pirated PS3 games from their HDD so making the paying customer suffer is like being punched in the nuts with a steel fist. I mean we are just talking about game saves here and not game data which is more likely to allow a hack into a game. And if this were such a liability then why aren't all game saves protected?
For example, say i couldn't beat the damn mini boss, e-mail the save to a friend (who's better than you duh) and have him/her beat that and e-mail the save back. There, you can continue w/o the frustration, how cool is that!

Hello PS3 Owners
I'm currently a 360 owner and honestly I'm ok with it. However I'm giving thought of getting a PS3 for several reasons from games, to some fellow DVD Talkers on-line play 9Unreal III) and of course the BD player. I don't really know the "pros & cons" involved and don't reall care to get in a PS3 vs 360 debate. I'm looking for straight-to-the-point good, bad, happy, the pits, whatever.
First the BD Player - good, issues, ok, average or what? I will be using it in the rec room for movies so it does matter.
On-line Community - Like Friends lists, navigation, layout, runs ok?
Game Play/Games - I had a PS2 that I really liked. To this day Dynasty Warriors was a favorite and the "Wrestling" games were the best. Like the action games the most and with the 360 there's no shortage.
Also a site with a breakdown of the sytem(s) and all the in & outs of the PS3 would be helpful. Like I said I'm giving it some thought but I better have a good reason and sales pitch since the wife will be involved. Thanks for any info.

BD Player is good, and it gets regular updates. However, I'm sure standalone players are coming down in price.
On-line community depends on your friends... I have many more friends with a 360 than I do with a PS3. In general Xbox LIVE Gold is much better (but you have to pay for it)
Game play, games: unless there's a bunch of PS3 exclusives that you need to have, I'd say stick with the 360 for multi console games.
There's another thread from last week where someone was looking for PS3 pros and cons, I'd suggest looking that one up.

Ok, the Xi thing on Playstation Home is actually kind of interesting. For those that haven't checked it out they are setting up a Hub area and turning it into a kind of old school adventure game. I believe puzzles and clues will be added weekly until Jess' disappearance is solved. Nothing super challenging so far, but could be cool.
You find the graffiti and it teleports you to the Hub. Once there you get a brief introduction. You then find three pieces of paper hidden in the Hub to solve the first puzzle. That unlocks the main puzzle game. You solve another puzzle and you get your first piece of a big picture puzzle. There is also a robot you can talk to that will give you a clue. Solve that and you get a butterfly and there looks to be a lot of those to collect. It was pretty basic to start, but there are three transporters that look like they will be implemented for later puzzles. A free weekly updated adventure game could at least give me a reason to keep this installed.

the BD player if better than good ... it may be the best on the market
Online is free and I won't get into too many specifics because I don't spend a huge amount of time gaming online but when it do it certainly does just fine by me (there is also a built in web browser that works quite well)
Games, there are no shortage of and it has/is only getting better (the PSN has some great offerings as well).... I actually don't have enough time to play as much as I'd like ... Killzone 2 and MLB The Show are sucking away my time
as mentioned there was a thread on this topic that has already been put in lockdown mode

I've had my PS3 since father's day. It never got much game time until Little Big Planet came out.
The BD player is great and works without a hitch. Upconversion of DVD's is better than most stand alone DVD players.
The online community is pretty weak and not as good as Xbox Live. However, it gets the job done. It just doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Live.
As far as games go, I'd also recommend sticking with the Xbox for multi-console games with Unreal Tournament III being the exception. Killzone 2, Warhawk, Little Big Planet, are all really good. I wasn't thrilled with Metal Gear Solid (the cutscenes were much too long and too often).
I don't really think Bluetooth was the best choice for wireless controllers or headsets.
Overall though I think you'll be happy you got a PS3.

Yeah, just get it if you already have an Xbox 360.
Another pro of the PS3 as a BD player is that it has wireless, so some content that has BD Live and requires internet connectivity will be supported out of the box.
Also, the PS3 is really quiet. Right now I don't see a lot of difference with the Xbox since I copy all my games to the hard drive, but whenever I have to play Halo 3 (from disc) I remember the old days.
I have some friends, some from here, but I have not played any games with anyone. Xbox Live is better, but you get used to the one in the PS3.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
eh... it's okay, you can add/delete/ignore people, friend list navigation is okay, nothing spectacular.
2. It has internal hdd (duh, but the coolest thing about it is that you can upgrade it way cheaper than the Xbox)
3. It comes with WiFi
4. PSN is free
Here are the negatives:
1. Updates, slow, very slow to fairly slow
2. Updates can't be ignored... including games
3. Updates, pain the ass (fortunately, not too many of them)
Note, i didn't include things like controller comes with rechargeable battery, that's a hit or miss for some people...

As a point of reference, Criterion uses the PS3 as their reference BD player, so in terms of quaility, yeah, it's good. It's also WiFi and always has it's firmware updated.
As a games machine, I'm more that satisfied with it. It has almost all of the 360 games I care about (Rock Band, GTA IV, Burnout Paradise...) and I've really enjoyed the exclusives despite what you hear on the "forumz". Uncharted, Warhawk, Ratchet, Motorstorm, LittleBigPlanet, Flower, and the Pixeljunk games are all terrific and are worth your time even if you own a 360.
The PSN online experience is not as robust as Live, but it's free and is constantly improving. It also seems to be populated by fewer teenage douchenozzles.
The hardware is whisper quiet and is orders of magnatude more reliable than the 360.
The web browser is pretty good if you have a USB keyboard.
All in all, a nice system, and I have no regrets purchasing it rather than a 360.

I can't believe I revisited this stupid application
network errors.... have to de-register and then redo what you just did
you'd almost think it was actually part of the game it is so stupid that we are still dealing with these issues
I am a huge Playstation fan but beta or not Home is the biggest failure Sony has ever engaged in for the home video console market
HOME should be foreclosed on

Well thanks allot guys. You provided some good info and insight. I really wanted to hear from owners and not read some review. What's better is many have the 360 as well so to compare the game side helped.
One question, are their differences in the sytem itself other than the size of the HD? I've read just a bit about the newer Cel core running cooler and using less watts but is one model better than the rest and is one best left alone?

I guess you already know about backwards compatibility and that current PS3s don't support it. Also if you check in the previous pages some old 60 GB PS3 are starting to show issues.
I'd say go with a new 80 GB PS3 and you'll be happy. If you want more hard drive space you can always buy a bigger hard drive and upgrade your PS3 by yourself, it's under warranty.

Don't worry about the hdd size, like i said you can upgrade it for cheap. The notebook/laptop hdd prices going lower and lower everyday (okay, not everyday). The new PS3 uses less electricity than the older models (like the original 60gb ones). There are some internal improvements/modifications, mainly to reduce power consumption (hence heat) and reduce the overall production cost. It gets fairly hot, but the cooling system is more robust than the Xbox 360. You can leave it on for days and don't have to worry about overheating (well, i don't see the point of doing that except for Folding, by the way, do you guys still Fold?).
Also, i hate to bring this up, but it's a fact... You do not need to worry about game discs getting scratched up if you happen to move the console while gaming (same thing on the Wii). I know people normally don't do this. However, there are enough complaints for the Xbox 360 worth few sentences... What happens is that in the PS3 and Wii, there's a disc "bumper" part that kinda protect the disc's rotations while inside the console, the little part cost about 10 cents? The Xbox 360 decided to cut that part...

I have to agree, the PS3 doesn't get nearly as hot...because it doesn't get used

Fun game, though.
