No guarantees (and by all means, write down your current settings)...but try entering these into the network setup on the PS3:

Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2
Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.1

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

If I could just follow up on my completely ignored post above about the current Best Buy steering wheel promo:

It's pure joy to race NFS Shift in the cockpit view with that force feedback steering wheel. I'm not much into racing games but just put three hours into this. To race the virtual version of my own car (Infiniti G35) with it's totally accurate interior view, and then to screw up and hit a wall going fast, feel a stunning jolt in your arms and simultaneously have the image go all fuzzy is sort of amazing. I can't even imagine going back to racing with a DualShock (or from a chase view, for that matter). This is such a deal, such a great gaming experience for $80. I hope folks don't miss out on it. All our local BBs are out of the wheel, but I still think it's available online.

I just updated to 3.0 (I wanted to check out the WET and Katamari Forever demos) and one annoyance is that it doesn't start playing a disc that's inserted when you turn it on. I watch a lot of TV shows on DVD and I'll select 'play all' watch an episode or two, and shut it off. It would always start right up where I left it when I returned. But now when I turn on my PS3, it goes to "what's new" or whatever, and I've always have to navigate over and manually start the DVD. It starts right where I left off when I do that though.

There's a setting under one of the settings for disc auto-start. It must have gotten flipped off with the update. But if you go there and turn it back on you should be good to go!

I checked that and it doesn't work. It autostarts a disc when I put it in, but if there's a disc already in there when I power it up, it doesn't autostart. I also turned of the "What's New" startup feature.

Same issue here. I used to need to quickly eject the movie/game if I didn't want it to auto-start, but now I always get the XMB screen. I also have auto-start enabled (which now just seems to be an "auto-start on disc insertion", and have turned off the "what's new" auto-start). Oh well.

I'm not having any issues at all between 3.0 or 3.1.

Spoiler:
ahhh... the joys of not updating your console for weeks at a time.

Meh. You need a code for the Brutal Legend Demo. This is getting annoying.

It's a one-week exclusive for Gamestop pre-orderers. It'll be open to everyone on the 24th.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I'm having all sorts of issues getting online with my PS3. I can't update my NHL 10 and play yet, which I guess, you MUST do in order to play -- this totally sucks a bag of dicks.

To make matters worse, there is a DNS error on my PS3 which then causes my main computer to lock up completely. Fuck you PS3!!

Whoa, slow down. Is the NHL 10 a PS3 issue or a EA one? They make you jump through all sorts of hoops if you want any online functionality on the PS3. They deserve their own individual-sized bag of dicks.

Anyone like Vampire Diaries?

Anyone want my free code to download the first episode onto their PS3 from the video store?

To be honest, I don't know. I do know that I cannot update with the new patch and while I can access the Playstation store w/out any issues, every time I do a "Network Test", it times out. Two weeks ago I had no issues -- two days ago shit doesn't work.

This isn't the first time either. It seems that getting online with the PS3 is always spotty. I'm thoroughly frustrated and can't understand why an issue with NHL 10 is causing my computer downstairs to freeze when I try to get online with it.

I'll take it if available, I missed the first episode when it was broadcast.

Actually, only 360 gets it on the 24th. PS3 has to wait until Oct. 1st.

Weird because both are on Thursdays. Guess the "1 week Gold Exclusive" is making its way over to PS3 as well.

What are my options for bluetooth headsets? I know Warhawk comes with one, but I don't know how good it is. I hear the ps3 one is pretty good, but for $50 doesn't seem worth it. Are there any other options?

Can't you use any ol' BT headset? You can probably find some cheap cell phone ones off the deal sites.

Any bluetooth will work. The one with Warhawk isn't so great, but I still highly recommend the game (and playing with us on Tuesdays). The one that comes with SOCOM is apparently pretty good, but the game is not.

I actually recommend a wired USB headset. Any will work, but I've had great luck with Logitechs.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

good to know. thanks. I have a palm pre which I'd use the headset for as well so wireless will be a must, I now realize.

I've always had excellent service from logitech so I'll check into that. I guess it also depends on what is comfortable to my ear[s]. I suppose the only way would be trying on different ones.......not like I'm gonna do that though.

For anyone interested you can download Community and Parks & Recreation episodes from last night for free on PSN and in HD. Nice that someone other than iTunes gets the free episodes.

The Endwar bundle comes with the official headset. There's an BIN listing on ebay for 35 with free shipping. Minus 8% Bing cashback you could get it for $32.20. Then sell the game for $5-$10 to save even more money.
