Well, actually it's been shutting off (with the red light then blinking) more than freezing. The freezes were mostly on Mirror's Edge, so that could just be the game.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
I think it might be the 3.0 firmware that started this, but lately, my PS3 doesn't remember my place in a movie. It's a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a setting that may have changed?

Which movies? You are aware that BDs with BD-J can't be resumed, right?

Oh, crap. I just tried to turn it on again, thinking I should back up the HDD, and I have the YLOD.
And, my Beatles game is stuck inside. Any way to get that out of there?

I don't think you can get it out without opening the console up. When and if you send it for repair you are suppose to let them know the game stuck inside so they can give you a replacement.

1. I am not aware of that.
2. What is BD-J? Does that have anything to do with BD-Live?
3. Most recently, it was The Godfather III, but I can't remember the last time a movie actually resumed playback from where I stopped.

I'm pretty sure The Godfather Collection uses BD-J, but I'm not certain.

Yeah, there's a loading screen before the main menu. That's a really lame "feature" right there. Anyway, glad to have an answer for it. So it probably doesn't have anything to do with the firmware update and has more to do with the fact that the Blu-rays I've been watching over the last 2 weeks have been the Godfather Trilogy then?

If your system is no longer under warranty I would take the disc out myself. If it is under warranty then be sure to tell them in writing what is in there and tell them that you expect the disc to be returned. I've heard of people not getting their discs back although telling Sony that there is a disc inside. Also, if you have to pay for repairs then you are better off to find a third party and get it fixed for cheaper.

Most Warner titles would be suitable for a test (I think Batman Begins was Warner's first release to use BD-J; they still release discs that don't use BD-J.) Do you have a title from Warner that was released in 2008 or earlier? Just PM me if you have any questions.

I'm just bummed to hear about a PS3 dying. Really sorry you're having to deal with it.

Didn't want any PS3 owners here to miss out on a hell of a deal, so I posted both here and below in the VG Deals thread. Sorry for the rerun.
In case anyone missed it, there is a deal right now at Best Buy where if you buy either DIRT 2 or NFS Shift for regular price ($60), you can buy the Logitech Driving Force Wireless wheel for PS3 for $20. Since the wheel itself has an MSRP of $99.99 and sells at Best Buy for $79.99, this is a great deal -- the wheel has 900 degree rotation for compatible games and force feedback. It's also available online. Like an idiot, I rushed in to buy it with NFS today only to find that NFS doesn't come out until tomorrow
One word of caution : all my local stores have only about 4 wheels each so don't wait too long.

It's not as nice as their official GT5 wheel, but it's apparently very well made and I like that it's more compact. I can't strap a wheel to a table and have pedals on the ground, so for me this seems like an ideal solution. You control gas and brake with L1 and R1 buttons on the front of the wheel where your thumbs go and can shift with paddles.

If you're out of warranty it doesn't matter whether or not you open it since you're going to pay Sony and get someone else's refurbished unit. As far as the reflowing goes I think that this is all Sony does to fix the broken units so it is a draw. Besides, you can oftentimes get an extended warranty from a 3rd party on the cheap that Sony will not offer. They only give you a 90 day limited warranty on their refurbished units with your 150 dollar fee.

I'm thinking about maybe just buying a new system.

Oh yeah, it's way out of warranty. I bought it in January of 2007. Actually, I wasn't the first to use it, because it had a Madden save on it. I didn't bother to return it, because it was the only one they had. That was when they were hard to find, especially the 20GB version.

I can't seem to sign into the PSN store or network. I downloaded all my games when I got a slim, and it worked fine. Then suddenly I get this problem a few days ago.
My laptop, and 360 can connect wirelessly fine. So it's not the router. Any ideas?

I got my slim PS3 today. I'm never going to pay Newegg for upgraded shipping, because they send stuff so damn fast. It was about 24 hours from when I placed the order to when it arrived, using the free shipping.
BTW, if anyone decides to put a different HDD in a new slim, don't bother to change any settings when you turn it on for the first time to check that it works. Everything gets reset when you switch out the HDD. Yes, even the clock.
