Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Picked up the official PS3 Bluetooth headset for half price over the weekend.

Aside from Endwar (which I don't have and don't plan on getting), are there any games that use voice command for actual single-player gameplay?

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Xi officially ended today on Home. It took 79 days to complete and was pretty enjoyable overall. Nice mix of puzzle types and the story elements had me digging through the websites like Veilcorp. The ending was pretty underwhelming. You had a choice of two endings and apparently neither was that interesting.
The rewards weren't a big deal. A shirt and 3 trophies to display in Home if you got 100% completion.

I liked it mostly because it gave me a real reason to log on to home every couple of days and hopefully they try something like this again. I can always use a free puzzle based adventure game.

^Damn, I wish I knew about that. That's sounds like fun. I haven't signed into Home since the first week. I ran around dancing for awhile and then found the chess boards. I spent the rest of the week playing chess, then just kind of forgot about Home. Any chances they'll do something like that again?

Looks like the new map pack for CoD: WAW is out tomorrow, including a new Zombie level. Does anyone else have the game for PS3 or does everyone have it for 360?

Not sure. Xi will only be open for a few more weeks. There are walkthroughs on the forums at Playstation.com. You could probably run through the whole thing in a weekend with the help there. As long as you haven't finished it the game is still available for a few weeks. For those of us that have finished it we just have an Alumni Xi place to go now, but that is supposed to go in a few weeks as well.

In the game you collect fragments and butterflies. The fragments are pretty easy for the most part, but you will need the walkthrough for some of the butterflies. Many of those challenges required the work of many people sometimes having to use real world sleuthing to solve. I would recommend checking it out if you are curious. The fragment puzzles vary from logic, searching the environment and playing minigames and are fun to mess with.

Cool, thanks Darkside. I'm going to check that out tonight.

Dear Sony,
The controller I turn on the PS3 with should always, always be assigned Controller #1.

Thanks

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I have a backwards compatible PS3 and have played many PS1 & PS2 games on it. I am having trouble loading one title and was wondering if any of you have ran into this or know how I can fix this.

I got a couple of old PS1 pinball games in lately in trade but one will not load. It is Pro-Pinball (The Web table) and it acts like it is going to play but never loads the actual game. It goes to the main menu of the game and I can even go thru the options and such. But when I push to play it just states that it is "loading" but never does anything else. It just sticks there.

I have tried two different discs for this same game and they have both done the exact same things. Any way to fix this?

I've got it on PS3 but I don't have any map packs. I haven't looked at the second one, but the first one really didn't impress me much. Plus I don't play zombies much.

I've heard that there are a small amount of games that are not backwards compatible.

Thanks for the link. Looks like that one is not even coming up in the database. Guess it is one of the few that is not compatible. Dammit.

Very valid point. Do you have a GH/RB instrument plugged in? I know, gets annoying...

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

A little work bonus means a PS3 is on it way to my door.
I'm looking for a straight forward D&D rpg.
I've played Dungeon Siege on the PC, it was simple but I liked it...
Any PS3 recommendations??

thankz

Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom is fun. But the main issue people have with it is there are only three characters to choose from. warrior, scout, or wizard,

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

My internet connection is thru Sprint with a Sierra 595u usb modem.
I doubt if its fast enough to play games over, but I'm wanting to at least download games and patches.
I am looking into Cradlepoint.com 350 or 300 to give me a wifi hot spot.
First off would this work?? also any other ideas??

thankz

I currently have my ps3 connected to the internet through my sprint phone. It's fast enough to do downloads alright and I've been able to play some Uncharted 2 online. So it should work for you!

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

My PS3 was just sent in for service. The disk drive stopped spinning and recognizing all types of media (BR, DVD, CD, etc..) The question I have is do they reformat the hard drive? I couldn't do the backup utility for it gave me an error so I'm hoping they just repair the BR drive and not touch the Hard disk.

So my phone acts as a broadband modem and is connected to my computer via a USB cable. The way I have it working right now is... in network connections (I'm on a PC, btw) I clicked on my internet connection (which for me is listed under Local Area Connection 3) and my LAN adapter and then bridged the connection. I then connected my PS3 to my computer using their respective ethernet ports with a Patch cable (which is different than a normal ethernet cable.) I then changed the PS3's network settings to be a wired setup with easy/automatic setttings.

Another option is to right click on your internet connection, click on properties, click on sharing and then share the internet connection with your LAN port. And then what follows is just like above in terms of connecting with the patch cable and all.

Good luck! It took me a little bit of tinkering to figure this all out. I ended up having to disable my free firewall software and just use the Windows firewall software to make it work. The ICS method worked for me, but seemed a lot harder to continually implement, and the bridging seemed to work right off the bat.

1. I am surprised there hasn't been a new firmware update in a while (a month)
not a big deal just seem like it's been some time

2. I can't understand why they haven't incorporated trophies into the "Portable ID" for North America like the European/UK site has

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I still have yet to figure out why the store can only update once a week (sans E3), and even then it updates at 5pm cst (on a good day). If you're going to update once a week, can we at least get the freaking update in the morning? I don't want you telling me my COD maps and other DLC come out Thursday. By the time I get them, purchase and download it's almost Friday. I know it can't be that hard to get an overnight or even 9 am upgrade.

You get what you pay for apparently with PSN. I suppose XBOX does have some perks with the yearly fee.
