Link's Awakening was my favorite Zelda.

Wind Waker was second favorite 3D zelda in a very close race with Ocarina of Time. I liked Twilight Princess, but I did not enjoy it nearly as much as Wind Waker.

We're getting a bit off topic, but I'll chime in and say Phantom Hourglass was my favorite Zelda since Ocarina (Okami notwithstanding).

I think it's too easy to say that Wii Sports is as big a franchise as Mario, Zelda, or Metroid. It was bundled with the console and there's no way it can ever be as iconic as any of the previously three mentioned franchises as it has no integral characters. Was it successful? Sure. Is it Mario 2. No.

Off topic: Way too much sailing in Wind Waker, A Link to the Past is the greatest Zelda.
On topic: Sequelitis has always been a problem in the videogame industry. I've come to accept it (I buy most of the
), plus it makes me appreciate every Ico, Okami, etc. even more.

Let's see what happens with Resort.

Nintendo has at least 3 new IPs in the works but didn't show them off at the press conference: Span Smasher, Line Attack Heroes and Monado: Beginning of the World.
Was this supposed to be a surprise? They said that they made Milo in only 3 months, it's not like you can make an advanced AI in that short of time.

I don't understand how WiiSports is considered a HUGE seller when it is packed with the system. People don't have a choice on whether or not to 'buy' it since it comes with the hardware, therefor any sales from a system sale shouldn't credit Wiisports as a 'sale' for that software, right?

I'm willing to say 50% of the Wii sales were specifically for Wii Sports, so it's fair to count it as a huge seller in this case. But generally, yes I would say pack-ins shouldn't count.

When has MS marketed the console on Hexic? Did people even realize that it came with the system? For two years the Wii = Wii Sports. Wii Sports is the reason that you couldn't find one on a shelf until after this past Christmas.

Nintendo canceled new handheld in last three years
by Alexander Sliwinski { Jun 7th 2009 at 3:30PM }
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned in a recent interview that the company had a new handheld all set to go in the last three years, but ultimately decided to scrap the plan. Speaking with CNBC, Iwata declined to give any further details about the product, but did say that the most important thing for Nintendo when releasing new hardware is to maintain "momentum." Iwata implies that the new handheld would not have accomplished that goal.
History lesson time: Many moons ago Nintendo discussed the "three pillar strategy" for its hardware. It was to be the console (Gamecube, then Wii) and the two handhelds (Game Boy and DS). With the runaway success of the DS, and now the DSi, it seems the third pillar became vestigial. Perhaps one day we'll see what this mysteriously scuttled handheld was meant to be.

If they really wanted a 3 pillar strategy, I think a better one would be to have an expensive, powerful console, along with the budget console and 1 handheld. Those of us willing to spend more money could get HD graphics and games to compete with the 360 and PS3, and they would still offer a cheaper SD console. It would be similar to how the PS2 is now Sony's budget console.
Not that you need (or even want) 2 Nintendo consoles, but I'd rather see that than 2 handhelds.

As for releasing an HD console, Iwata recently said in an interview that at the time HDTV penetration wasn't high, and they didn't feel the need to release a HD console. He also said since HDTV sales are now very high the next Nintendo system will most likely be HD.
Nintendo just can't have two systems. They are a really small company, and don't have enough developers to fully support both the Wii and an HD console at the same time.

I thought the character design was terrible.
