Count me in for wanting Unplugged. I would flip over their performance of Where Did You Sleep Last Night.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

Ugh, my cousin just emailed me a link to participate in the air guitar championships and thinks I would be a lock to win. Apparently the general public can't differentiate bewteen fake plastic instruments and invisible instruments. I think I should be offended!

On a related note - there's a rock band competition next Saturday at some car dealership, check out these rules. They barely give any advantage to expert players this way. I'm wondering if I can get a team together in time for this.

I'd say the same thing but for Pennyroyal Tea, although there's just two parts for it.

Odd rules there Rabbit... I like how first place gets stuck with StubHub, but 2nd or 3rd get choice between Stubhub and Gamestop...

The grammar in this pdf is horrendous. I wonder why you can't bring your own drum set?

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

It seems the "bonus" points for difficulty are only applicable if you get 100%. If you get 99% on X but 100% on H, it's a wash. 100% on M is as good as 99% on H and 98% on X.

Since showmanship is very important, I see no justification for playing Expert.

Although, drums and vox shouldn't hamper showmanship on expert.

Agreed, but rabbit is a guitarist. He needs a local experts in those fields anyway first.

I would hope the judges would reserve higher showmanship points to expert players. But that's just wishful thinking. I know I could pull off voxtar but only for the 5 or 6 songs where I know all the lyrics, and since the last two rounds would be songs picked out by the staff we'd be screwed.

Actually, they can. The venue and how loud things are (speakers, ambient noise), etc. can really affect the sounds the mic picks up.

I was at a contest in January and we chose Drain You. We practiced that day at work and I consistently got 100% on Expert while doing all my showmanship stuff (falling to the ground during the final phrases, etc.). When we did it at the show, I chose Hard (based on last year's experience), and still only got like 80ish%.

If there are any children or hot chicks in the competition, then you are automatically screwed. Especially if the judges are radio DJs or other such local "celebrities".

Anything that's based on showmanship usually devolves into an "Aww, that kid is cute." type of thing. Or "Man, that chick was smokin' hot!".

Starting to sound not worth it if you have to split a $100, $200, or $300 gift certificate 3-4 ways.

Yeah, the prizes are pretty weak for wanting so much put into showmanship and appearance.

Im not sure which would give me more pleasure. Smashing up-side the head of HMX peeps for one of the worst setlists I have ever heard, or taking a crack at the entire band that created "Visions" and thought this was music.

I had to play that aweful HMX setlist 3 times. First time xpert 7/9. Then Hard 8/9. The last time on Med just to get it over and done with.

The only redeeming song is Night Lies and only because they sound like a KISS tribute band with a horrible name. The other 8 songs are uninspiring and all around wastes of time.
Completely agree with this post. I hate that set list and not just because Visions is on it. Almost every song is dull to listen to. Then throw the vomit comet called Visions at the end and you have the worst set list of all time.

I know many have said they prefer the HMX songs on RB2 to RB1 but definitely prefer the RB1 ones. The ones on RB2 just don't want to grow on me.

And as much as I hate the sound of Visions, I hate the guitar charting more. It's just bullshit that I can't get past 30 seconds on this song on guitar. I play on Hard for fun and can hold my own on Expert with most songs but I can't even make it halfway thru this song on Hard which bugs the shit out of me. And it's so obnoxious to listen to which prevents me from even wanting to practice the damn song.

They throw it on after this super long dull set of songs and then you just keep losing fans after playing the damn set for an half and hour. Has anyone at HMX responded about all the complaints about this song? There were tons of the on their message boards when I looked several months ago.

Any suggestions on how to play this song on Hard? It's funny cause I think if you could use the GH slide on it, I might could pass the damn thing.

I've heard people say that it's actually harder on Hard than Expert, since Expert has at least some HOPO. I've never tried it on Hard, though.

A week or so ago, I was messing around in Quickplay and decided to give it a shot. I had spazzed through it barely once before in BWT, and only played it a couple of times (unsuccessfully) since. Sure enough, I passed it on my first try in months, again flashing red for at least half. All that did was piss me off that I was playing it in QP and not somewhere that mattered.

Yeah, I loathe Visions, but I can get around that problem by never playing it. Sure, it might be in certain playlists, but I can deal with it on those rare occasions, especially since it's fairly short. It's actually kind of fun on vocals since you can just impersonate Cookie Monster and grumble nonsense through the whole song.

Part of the problem with the stupid song on Hard is that the note chart moves slower than on Expert so it even looks stranger and hard to see when to play the notes. If you play it on Hard with Hyperspeed enabled, then, it moves at the speed of Expert and isn't as bad.

Night Lies is the only one I would choose to play. None of the others I would touch in QP.

"Jagged Little Winter Pill" song or whatever that thing is titled. Some parts of that are fun to play but its just too much like Panic@ the Disco track which is so much better.

The "Plow" song is just one notch below Visions. Dreadful to listen too.

The "President" song is some novelty song I expect to hear off a poorly done K-Tel collection. And even that may be giving it too much praise since this was one of my favorite albums growing up.

The rest are completely forgettable because I dont even care to remember them enough to make inane comments.

Ditto. By the time you get to these songs in the setlist, I just dont care anymore. Its not worth my time or effort to figure out the charts.
It was all I could do just to plod thru on Med just to get it done. I just didnt care.

They throw it on after this super long dull set of songs and then you just keep losing fans after playing the damn set for an half and hour. Has anyone at HMX responded about all the complaints about this song? There were tons of the on their message boards when I looked several months ago.
I tried Hard Visions about 5 times. After that I went Med and done. I dont mind difficult charts. But these later set songs are difficult just to be difficult and for no other reason. Add to that the songs suck and I really have no reason to want to play them. If that is what HMX was striving for then fine.
They succeeded in me not caring about their musical tastes.

If HMX wants to label me a cry baby for not wanting to play crap charts over top of crap songs of their choosing. So be it.

Other than that the game is brilliant.

I like "Rob the Prez-O-Dent," it reminds me of Les Claypool. Speaking of Claypool, can we get some Primus?

The rocking-riff part, rocks.

The rest is just all around overly-dramatic-artsy-weirdness.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
