Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
Now that I'm back into my normal schedule, I can restart the challenges. Sorry I skipped out on doing one last week. I did extend out the Bay Area Thrash one through today, so if you haven't submitted a score, there's still time! Details can be found here.
DVDTalk Challenge #6
The Free Challenge
Harmonix have released several free tracks into our song libraries over the past year or so. This Challenge will showcase the ones longer than 90 seconds.
Description: play Miranda Cosgrove - Headphones On on vocals, Vesuvius - Promised Land on guitar, and GLaDOS - Still Alive on drums. Highest overall score will be declared the winner.
How Long: 1 Week. Challenge ends 12AM EST on Monday, 4/13/09. Submissions can be made by sending me a PM with screenshots.

I'm about as metal as they come, and I love Headphones On! It's pretty good (but easy) on guitar, and rockin' on vocals as well. It's not Sin Wagon amounts of awesome, but it's damn close!

Also, as promised:
Rock Band GDC Slides
These aren't exactly the ones I saw there, but they're pretty close. If the ones I get from my boss are any different, I'll post them up as well.
EDIT:
Looks like Teasdale has the final version (with a couple differences) up for download here.

Peace Sells is my favorite on-disc chart, and souls of black I really dig, but I loathe Battery. So much so that I played it once for the challenge and didn't want to try again.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I unlocked Peace Sells yesterday and got a decent run on that one after a few tries although I'm sure it will pale in comparison to you because I can't do the last solo at all and I screwed up during my last SP activation. Alex Skolnick is one of my heroes so I really get into Souls of Black. If only I could really play like that outside the game

BTW, I finally tried hyperspeed and it made things a lot easier for me on this challenge... except on Souls of Black. Seemed to screw up my timing there, dunno why.

I hate the chart. It's just not fun for me. I'm not a huge fan of the song so that doesn't help me want to play it either. The relentless green notes in the verses wear me out and I get worse with each subsequent playthrough.

Bay Area Thrash Results
Total Entrants - 3
Top 5
1. 538,381
2. 407,908
3. 258,717
Fun Facts
- rabbit77 is the first member to have two challenge wins
- rabbit77 GS'd 2 of the 3 tracks (Peace Sells and Souls of Black)
Not So Fun Facts
- There were only three entrants this Challenge, even with two weeks to submit scores.
What can I do to spruce these challenges up? Or was this one just too hardcore for most of you? Also, I know some of you were against me competing in these challenges, but I'd like to start. Looking at my top scores for X Guitar on these three would've put me in dead last. The only challenges I think I'd have a chance in would be where vocals are involved.

Personally i have no problem with you entering Shag. They are just for funzies anyways.
As for why i didn't enter, i don't like the thrash stuff so this challenge didn't interest me.

Alright, well there's one person that doesn't mind me entering.
I'll go ahead and play this week if I have the time (moving). I can't really pass up a chance to sing Headphones On!

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread
I don't mind the thrash stuff, but guitar/bass is actually my least favorite of the instruments. That's the only reason I didn't participate in the last challenge.
I'll probably enter this new challenge, but I'll have to download "Headphones On" just for this and then delete it afterward. That thing is like nails on chalkboard for me.
Just for perspective, I did download one of the Naked Brothers Band songs, the Janitors song, Break My Heart, and the Spongebob songs, so I don't have a problem with kiddie music - I just can't stand Headphones On.

So, from those slides there's this: http://www.vg247.com/2009/04/06/lego...lly-confirmed/

Harmonix designer Dan Teasdale’s confirmed on his blog that Lego Rock Band was supposed to be announced at GDC. He’s provided the slides to prove it.There’s a PDF there of an earlier version of the designer’s GDC session - obviously, it didn’t happen. Looks like Lego Rock Band was planned to be announced prior to this year’s show.Teasdale’s slides show that the game will hit in 2009

Shag - I doubt if anybody has a problem with you playing your own challenges. If they do, screw 'em.
And I didn't enter the Thrash Challenge because I really don't enjoy those particular songs. Battery is OK, the others I don't like at all. I'm in for this week to get back to my last-place-finishing ways.

Any chance we could see your scores Rabbit? You certainly embarassed me
I'm all for you joining in Shag. I guess to keep it fair, don't check out the scores submitted until the deadline, but honestly I wouldn't even care that much.

You should enter as well, I don't see why anyone could have a problem with that. It's not like we are playing for any sort of prizes (not yet!).
I didn't enter because I really only enjoy playing Drums. Pretty much any challenge that requires me to play a different instrument means I won't enter. Of course there have been some exceptions to that, but normally that is the case.
I'm not participating in this next challenge for a couple reasons. Headphones On, free or not, I refuse to download that shitty ass song. Not only would I need to play that, I would need to do VOCALS on it? Fuck that!

I will sit this next one out, and in lieu of my entry I'd like to donate a $10 Best Buy Gift Card to this week's winner (DVDTalk Challenge #6). Good luck guys!
ETA: Shag, if you want me to hold on to the scores so you can compete I'd be more than happy to.
