I thought it was going to replace our Wii as well until I found out it didn't play GameCube games.
I wish I had more GameCube games. I was way too into the original Xbox and only had a tiny handful of GC games, and I wound up giving a couple of them away to family. That's part of the reason why I wish Nintendo would remaster Super Mario Sunshine! I've been itching to give that one another shot. |

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Well, the newer Wiis didn't play Gamecube games either... :)

Now that you mention it, I should give Super Mario Sunshine another shot. I don't remember much about it, other than I played it for a few hours and wasn't feeling it. Same thing with the Resident Evil games. I ended up picking all of them up (including Code Veronica) and only got around to finishing the first one. And to this day, I still regret getting rid of some of my GameCube games. Skies of Arcadia Legends, MGS Twin Snakes, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Smash Bros Melee immediately come to mind, but I'm sure there are more. |
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
buy.com is doing one of their Wii U deals on eBay: new 32GB deluxe with Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land for $259.99 shipped: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wii-U-32GB-B...d/361232805151
They do this fairly regularly, so if you miss out, don't sweat it. |

No bonuses for people who signed up before the price drop? Thanks, Best Buy.
Note: I didn't pay $100 for my membership, but still, it's the principle of the thing! |

20% off is part of the deal, so I don't think they can legally take that away from current members unless they refunded the entire cost of membership.
|
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Yeah, I'm not at all worried about that. My guess is that they looked at sales numbers and found that people bought it a lot at $30 and almost none at $100-$120 (which was a really high price, even if the benefits are awesome). I don't see how they make money on this, but then again, I haven't bought a single game from another retailer since this program began.
|
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
$100+ was always absurd, even with the discount. You'd have to buy 9 $60 games just to break even.
The $10 bonuses have been dwindling. I'd imagine those all but go away with this announcement. |

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/global-p...UnnGUoXcJetGhw Gamers Club Unlocked program may be modified or terminated by Best Buy at any time. |
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
They trumpeted the discounts on figures as one of the selling points in the price drop announcement. I think they're hoping that the lower buy-in locks people into getting all their gaming needs met at BB.
|
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
If they cancel our GCU memberships after collecting a bunch of subscribers at 30 plus all of us that have locked in for the long haul then that will spell trouble. I would minimize my purchases with them if that happened.
|
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
I don't think they'd just cancel the memberships, but they have a history of altering membership benefits (for rewardzone) then spinning it as a good thing. We'll see. If it's to increase foot traffic, letting people order online doesn't help them. I can see them using this similar to loss leaders, but otherwise just on new game sales this has to be losing them money. And consumers are fickle... I know since GCU started, I've been buying most of my games at BB, but if it's over I'd switch back to Amazon or whomever in a second.
Unless the margins on new videogames are much better than I've been lead to believe... |
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
I buy all of my games via Best Buy now, and all of my purchases are online. You can believe I'd be complaining (and shopping elsewhere) if they removed that possibility.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Saw the email on the price drop. Figured that would happen. $100+ was always really high..
My account is now all straigtened out it seems. Originally I had my expiration date showing in 2017. I got in on the last deal where you bought a phone and got 2 years free. After it didn't apply for a few weeks, I sent a message through the forum thing. Shortly after that, my expiration date showed 2015.. so I lost 2 years... sent another message that they would fix it before expiration date.. so now it shows 2019 which is correct. All of my game purchases lately have been from Best Buy as the instant $12 off of a new game makes it quite nice.. especially on games where you get a $10 reward cert for pre-ordering the game. Effectively makes a brand new game $38 which is a good deal. |
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Yep, and then if you don't like it and trade the game in within a week or so, you'll likely make most of that $38 back in store credit.

Some good deals at Target starting on Sunday:
30% - 70% off of select clearance video games. I wonder if this is something similar to what they did a couple months ago with the 50% off sale. |

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
The Order 1886 is part of a two day sale at Best Buy. $39.99 (or $31.99 for GCU). Honestly, it's probably worth picking up for that price, blowing through it, and trading it back in within a week and getting all your money back.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
The current TiV is $22. That's really low for a newly released game. I still may pick it up though as $32 is a lot better than $60 when all I'll be doing is watching a movie. ;)
