Fine Print says:
Offer includes no-contract phones without activation needed.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Just did it with the AT&T Z222 for $16.11 out the door after tax. Figured it was worth it since the person who would get me games will probably be buying a few of the preorder deal games for himself.

Actually, fine print says it does not require activation for prepaid phones.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I bought the 14.00 Tracfone (last one they had left). I asked the guy, "does this [phone] work to get this [GCU card]?" He said "I think so." And it did. It did not require activation.
I then did a transaction where I bought a game and got the discount - I asked if I do it at one time, but he was unsure, so I just did it in a separate transaction.
Now to do something with this phone...

Same here, completely hassle free. The guy ringing me out already knew about the deal and also said how good of a deal it is.

It's funny how some of you are doubting it when hundreds (thousands?) have done it and the fine print explicitly say it's allowed.

I just came to ask if there was an updated word on this. Awesome.

It shouldn't be a problem to sign up for the "my best buy" and the GCU all at once correct?

Yeah, it's not like it's a scam or even using their fine print weaselly.
The weird thing to me is that in the same ad, there's the deal for getting it for 30 bucks with purchase of a game. And that this deal works on no-contract phones.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

probably should have kept reading.

I'll try this in the morning, assuming they don't shut it down. Where does it state this? Other than on SD?

I see it in the ad, but I don't see the fine print, should they not believe me.

Maybe i'll get my daughter bundled up and we'll go now, seems like a great deal.

I'll even pre-order AC unity, Dragon age, GTA V, FarCry Too.

How quickly after you purchase does it show an extension on your Gamers Club Unlocked? I bought a phone a few hours ago and it is still showing my original end date.

Mine shows now, and I bought about 3 pm today. (about six hours ago).
I wasn't renewing though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Someone else linked the fine print, but you are thinking too much about it. There's literally nothing to it, the system automatically handles the deal. The only thing they'll ask is if you want the phone activated and you just decline it.

Same here, new GCU member and it reflected my status almost instantly. It may take longer for an extension.

I want my extension and I want it now. I called and they said it should show up in 7-10 days but I'm not sure that what I was told was anything more than an educated guess. I don't want to get screwed out of it.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

The good news is that I was able to get a $14.99 pre-paid phone and avail of the GCU. The bad news is that I traded in my COD Ghost game for $20, and after some time with the customer service, was told (and confirmed) that the trade-in does not stack up with the GCU. So only got a $20 credit for the new COD game. Now was wondering if I shouldn't have traded-in the game as discount is just close to the 20% taken off with a GCU, and if this is really how it works at other Best Buy stores too. I was not happy about it, as it seems that I've had lots of issues with this Best Buy Store (Tustin, CA). When I traded in game last week, I was advised that I need to bring in receipt. So I wasn't able to trade at this store and had to go to another Best Buy store instead. Even the pre-paid phone, couldn't find it displayed. They actually hid the cheaper phones too. Not a favorite store for sure.

Not really clear what you mean here. When you trade games in with GCU you get a bonus 10% to the trade in value. It says it right in the GCU information packet. You have to have them enter in your rewards info before they enter in the game for the 10% to apply. The two times they've done it incorrectly with me I just emailed Best Buy when I got home with the receipt info and they credited me the difference.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

What I meant is I was expecting to get the 20% discount ($12) plus the $20 trade in value or $32 total reduction from purchase of new game. Instead I got credited only for $20 bec. The GCU does not stack with the trade in value.

Contact someone at the Best Buy Gamers Club forum, and tell them the issue and store location.

You should have gotten $22 ($20 trade-in + $2 10% GCU bonus) for Ghosts, and Advanced Warfare should have rang up for $47.99. It almost sounds like your GCU was not on the transaction at all since you didn't get the bump up or discount. The only caveat to this is I'm unsure if I ever did a trade in and purchase in the same transaction, usually I do the trade and get a gift card then go back and grab the game/pre-order and proceed to the register to pay with the gift card.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Got in and got the H2O sim starter kit for 9.99.. Originally grabbed a 14.99 phone, but the guy who was about to ring me out asked if this was just for the deal and I said yes so he went and got the H20 sim card. So now off to sell, that, or can I return it?

Also how is the reward cert delivered, by email or mail? I did pre-order AC Unity, but that was when I was signing up for the My bestbuy card, will it still count for me?

Most of your questions can be answered by reading the basic FAQs for the program.

If you return the SIM card, they have the right to charge you full price for the GCU. RZ certs are delivered by email. I don't know if your previous preorder will count for GCU. I would probably cancel and reorder, just in case.

Thanks.

Ended up pre-ordering FarCry 4, GTA V, and Arkham Knight(the limited edition) this morning.

I think they are still running the special which gives you $20 for trade-in credit for next gen COD Ghosts or $15 for old gen Ghosts. That also gets you a $10 discount coupon off COD:AW. I did this last Saturday night.
