Re: iPhone/iPod Touch App Talk
It's pretty much a sequel rather than a port.
- Championship Mode - all new design. 15 new maps total. The first two halves start identical to the 360 game but the maps that generate after you eat the first two fruit are all new.
- Mission Mode - 120* missions (with three difficulties) - basically bite size chunks of Pac-Man. Think, eat 12 ghosts consecutively, eat a 5 fruits in alotted time frame, score a certain amount, etc.
- Challenge Mode - Costs $4 extra, but it's worth it, it adds a bunch more missions and 15 Score based challenge maps.
*120 total, the $4 extra includes a bunch of missions. I don't recall how many the game started with before the expansion. Maybe 75?
If you are a fan of Pac-Man: CE then there is no way you will be disappointed with this. There are even 4-5 different control methods so you can pick the one that works best for you.

Many have lite versions, but so many well reviewed games go on sale for $.99 or free that you will find yourself blind buying a lot of cheap games (if you are anything like me). My advice: Go to appshopper.com, create an account and mark down any game that you are remotely interested in. They will e-mail you whenever any of your games go on sale. If you are patient, almost every single game you want will be on sale at some point. I learned my leason with Metal Gear Solid. 2 days after I bought it for $5.99, it went on sale for $.99.

I also recommend the Pandora Box app which is basically Appshopper.com but on your iTouch. I check it every night before bed and hit the price drop area where you can filter by paid or free. You can even flag apps you are interested in and it will give you a little notification when you log on if anything on that list had a price drop.

Pandora Box is my favorite of that type of app, but I also use BargainBin and AppMiner.
Having at least one of those is a MUST imo, if you buy apps at all, it will end up saving you $. I have learned to never pay more than $1 for an app. Of the 100 or so apps I've either bought or thought about buying, all but one of them has hit $1 at least once, and most of them were even briefly free.

I also am debating Oregon Trail. I have wanted the game ever since i got my Touch and it has never dropped in price.

What's the deal with everyone saying it is just a "partial" game?
I am holding on opening my Touch until x-mas so I have just been scanning the app store in the meantime. I never had a clue how many freaking apps/games there are. Holy cow! It could take you days to just go thru everything.
I looked up pinball and was astonished to see how many apps popped up. Granted none of the screen grabs really looked as appealing as a PSP or DS pinball game but some looked worth a shot.
Is there a good reference site that goes over the "must have" apps and games for newbies such as myself?

I really like Spider (the one where you are a spider in a mansion capturing flies). It has nice graphics, music, uses the touch screen well, and is fun.
I also play Zooloretto a bit. It is a conversion of a board game that is excellent. The board game costs like 70$. The app is like 4$.
Good deal in my book.
Also, for the Settlers of Catan fans, there is now Catan on the iTouch. It is a little slow but will let you get your fix against the AI on the road.
Finally, Pocket God for a buck is a must buy.
edit: When i get home and can check, i will list my main apps/games as well.

I play a sickening amount of Airline Conquerer. Anyone else play that one? Super simple game but a good challenge.
I also want N.O.V.A. , and will definitely be getting Pac-Man: CE

Another newbie question...do you guys use a stylus for most of your games or do you just find your finger does the job?
Thanks for all the responses by the way.

stylus? The iphone/ipod touch is meant to be controlled with your finger. The screen is much more resilient than the ones on the Nintendo DS.

What's a stylus? Seriously, I've never seen or heard of anyone using a stylus with an iPhone.
I'll second toucharcade. It's pretty much the only forum besides this one that I frequent.

Re: iPhone/iPod Touch App Talk
A normal stylus like the DS one won't work on the Touch. It relies on something with the texture of human skin. There might be special styluses available but that won't work for anything that requires multitouch. Also, the screen is specially designed so finger prints don't show up anywhere near as much as say on the PSP or DS.
