Personally, I dig surprise announcements. Screaming for Vengeance and Dr. Feelgood are up there as my favorite albums released so far. Ten will be a big one for me too.

I like the steady stream of announcements. If they announced a month's worth of songs all at once, that would be pretty lame in my eyes.

They announced SRV & Jane's Addiction three months ago. They'll still be a surprise when they hit. I don't need dates, I just want 'em to toss out some names/albums that we can look forward to like they did last fall. And how exactly does a surprise announcement make it more fun to play?

Doesn't make it more fun to play. It makes it more fun to anticipate!

To me, Nothing's Shocking is going to be a wasted week. But if I didn't know it was coming, I wouldn't know there'd be a DLC-less week in the future.

Yeah, that's what I'm guessing at this point. :( Oh well, I'll survive. I have no idea what any of the six coming next week even are. :shrug:

:eek: Nothing's Shocking is an awesome album. My favorite JA studio album. It will be worth it for Jane Says alone.

If you know any Dead at all you probably know Uncle John's Band. It is the song that has the "are you kind?" line in the song.

I'm not a Jane's Fan at all. I can stand Mountain Song, but Perry Ferrell's (sp?) voice usually gets on my nerves.

You can delete any song that's not packed in on the RB2 disc, if that helps.

It's supposed to be pronounced peripheral.

I know you will give the youtubes a listen to give them all a fair chance but of all the songs on that album give Jane Says a listen. Imo if you don't like that song then the rest of the album wouldn't interest you at all.

The live acoustic version of the song is particularly good. I wonder if they will map the drums to the steel drums.

How can you defend the free 20 songs and then say this? ;) Doth not compute.

I've never been a huge Dead fan outside of a few that I knew. But Pack 01 was a blast on guitar, and, as pinata knows, Alabama Getaway is one of the best tracks on RB2. So I'm probably down for the whole pack. I would have liked Touch of Grey this go around, but I guess I can wait for the last pack.

My only problem with GD in RB is that Harmonix charts both drum parts into one and they tend to be really obnoxious (Truckin').

Unless he's playing Rock Band on PS3 (judging by the PSN ID in his signature). If that's the case, it's either all or nothing for the exported RB1 songs. Removing a single DLC song would require deleting everything and re-downloading everything else; if you bought a pack, there's no way to drop one song from it and keep the rest.

Jane Says is tolerable as well, but I don't think it's worth a purchase. I've given the full album a complete spin, and will still check out the charts, as I'm always open. But musically, it's just not my thing.

Easy. Between the Buried & Me > Jane's Addiction (IMHO).

I just realized that Pearl Jam's Ten comes out the same week as Guitar Hero: Metallica & Chronicles of Riddick. :sad:

I know that I say the same thing a lot of the time, but I at least make an effort to word things differently or explain why I think something. I'm sure I could go back through the various threads and see abrg's "*sigh* More shitty DLC" post several times almost verbatim.

They can't release alternative and mainstream metal all the time. I'm glad they branch out and explore things and have something for everyone, even if it's not always for me.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

I know, I say the same shit all the time too. Just poking fun.
Anyway, here are the song breakdowns from IGN:

Spoiler:
Cold Rain and Snow
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 5

One of those super-rare tracks that provides a challenge for bass players. The rest of the instruments are serviceable, but the main guitar riff gets a little repetitive over time. It's a fairly tough one, too. Like many of the tracks on this pack, Cold Rain and Snow is best enjoyed on hallucinogens.

Verdict: Possible Download

Doin' That Rag
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 6 | Bass 4

No doubt, this is the toughest vocal song in the pack. Singers, be warned: the odd timber and pitch of the lyrics are very tough to emulate perfectly. There's also a very tough and very long guitar solo that ends the song. Thankfully "Doin' That Rag" does a good job of differentiating itself from the rest of the pack and is one of the best of the six.

Verdict: Must Download

Don't Ease Me In
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 3 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 4

If you can hammer-on and hammer-off, you should be fine. If you can't, you're screwed. Don't be fooled by the moderate difficulty rating for the guitar, it's pretty tough. The vocals, while not as challenging, are still fun thanks to the upbeat nature of the song.

Verdict: Must Download

Fire on the Mountain
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 4 | Vocals 0 | Bass 0

The drum portion, while the most difficult instrument in the song, is pretty unimaginative and repetitive, sadly. The same goes for the vocals and bass. The guitar part does a good job of working its way around the pad, but overall, "Fire on the Mountain" is unimpressive.

Verdict: Don't Download

Hell in a Bucket
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 3 | Drum 4 | Vocals 6 | Bass 3

My personal favorite of the songs on this pack. Every instrument is fast and fun with the vocals providing the biggest challenge. Playing both the guitar and drums is a physical challenge with reaches and quick movements required for both. If there's one to get, in my opinion this is it.

Verdict: Must Download

Uncle John's Band
Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99)
Difficulty: Band 2 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 0 | Bass 1

"Uncle John's Band," like the name might indicate to some, is a pretty ho-hum song. It's about as close to singing "Kum Ba Yah" as Grateful Dead gets. The guitar has some difficult portions, but there's much to it. If you can sing soothingly then you should be able to nail the peaceful vocals.

Don't Ease Me In & Hell in a Bucket sound intriguing even though I've never heard the songs.

Hell in a Bucket is a good song. It was off one of their newer albums (In the Dark) that also had the song Touch of Grey (iirc a few people on here were wanting that song). It has a much more 70s rock vibe imo their earlier folkier stuff.

xmiyu, why don't you throw a GD 'Playlist' together for us with songs from both packs since most of us are unfamiliar with them... and because you are our resident Deadhead.

I don't even understand what you are talking about. A playlist? Like a list of recommendations? A bunch of youtube videos?

I think he means a last.fm style playlist like he's put together before.

I think it's just as easy for interested parties to hit up youtube and check out some vids.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

Yeah, like I and superfro have done before. Playlist.com it's free and you can put together whatever you want and embed it here like so:
<div style="text-align: center; margin-left: auto; visibility:visible; margin-right: auto; width:450px;">
<embed style="width:435px; visibility:visible; height:270px;" allowScriptAccess="never" src="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf?config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.profileplaylist.net%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_black_noautostart. xml&mywidth=435&myheight=270&playlist_url=http://www.profileplaylist.net/loadplaylist.php?playlist=43994084&t=1232805843" menu="false" quality="high" width="435" height="270" name="mp3player" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" border="0"/>
<br/>
<a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net"><img src="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/images/create_black.jpg" border="0" alt="Get a playlist!"/></a>
<a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net/standalone/43994084" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/images/launch_black.jpg" border="0" alt="Standalone player"/></a>
<a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net/download/43994084"><img src="http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/images/get_black.jpg" border="0" alt="Get Ringtones"/></a>
</div>

Yes youtube is easy, but I listen at work so constantly searching for a quality vid is annoying. A playlist of all the songs in question is easier to hit play and be done with it.

Here are the songs. They didn't seem to have the studio Hell In A Bucket, but the live versions are pretty close to the record, they didn't change that one much live. I included two Cold Rain and Snows. I hope they go with the live version, not the studio version which is shorter and seems like they are on speed.

Should be fun,but I still want help on the way -> slipknot!
