I would actually be so excited for the entire live set from the 2 disc Steal Your Face. Black Throated Wind and Big River would be really fun songs.

Ok, I have stupid questions about playing online.

Up till now I have played either solo or with my two sons. i have a live id, they don't. I tried to go online before into the live tour and it didn't seem to want to let us in because they didn't have id's.

if the three of us want to go online and play, what are our options? Do all three of us need live id's?

Should be fun,but I still want help on the way -> slipknot!

Thanks tcoursen. A helpful tip though, when you generate the code there is an option to turn off Autoplay. Having it start playing every time someone loads this page will get tiresome to a lot of folks.

Especially when other people then quote it, causing it to start auto-playing three instances of the song at the same time.

Sign them in as guests. I assume you 3 are in the same room.

I was able to figure it out for Halo and I was able to have two of us playing halo online at the same time, but in Rock band I can't figure out how to sign on as guest.

I am really a noob at this xbox stuff.

Halo allows you to bring guests. Most games on the Live do not.

I have never tried with RB but i know CoD doesn't allow for guests either.

Hmmm. You should be able to go into Quickplay or Live tour, have all the members of the band join, then select multiplayer options (I think it's the blue fret/drum pad - it will say it at the bottom of the screen). Then choose to find players or invite friends. Then rock.

I have played with people online who have more than one local bandmate. Pretty sure that's how.

But did those local bandmates have their own Gold account.

In Halo if i log onto Live with 2 buddies playing as guests we will show up as:

xmiyux
xmiyux(1)
xmiyux(2)

For them to have their own names, stats, ranks, etc. they would have to have their own gold account and tag.

Is RB the same way? I have honestly not tried before but i didn't think i could have my wife play on her silver account and join me and some buddies (on our gold accounts) online.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

Yeah, they show up as (1), (2), and (3).

Well awesome. My wife wanted to play with some of our friends a while back but i didn't think RB allowed guests. This is great news - thanks!

when we go into live tour it doesn't let us do it. says we have to log in. If we log in as one of the local, non live activated, accounts it doesn't let us pick those, and I don't see a way to do the guest name(1) thing that Halo does.

Would love it if I could play with me and one or more of my sons with one or two more friends/relatives remotely.

Okay, I just tried it. It's Quickplay ---> Band Quickplay ---> XBL Quickplay. One member selects the XBL account you want, the others sign in as Guests. The Guest tag will probably be at the end of the list of other available tags (not sure, since I only have one GT, plus Guest).

ETA: It works the same in XBL Tour. You should be good to go!

So I am stuck on guitar between Medium and Hard. I know for most of you this is laughable but I just got this game for Christmas so I am content with my ability.

The game yesterday told me I should try a new level on guitar. So I moved up to hard and the 5th button is killing me.

Any tips you guys have? I know this is probably something you dealt with a long time ago but I figure you all have some techniques you used when learning.

Basically I am used to keeping my 4 fingers over each button and when I have to shift I lose it all.

Or am I just not ready?

I had this exact same problem.

Go back to the first gigs you played and do them on hard. Trying to shift over to hard in the middle of the tour is murder.

You just have to learn how shift from the top 4 buttons to the bottom 4 buttons, and the only way to do it is practice practice practice.

Learning the orange button is by and far the toughest obstacle in the guitar games. There's no way around it other than just keep playing and learn how and when to adjust your hand.

In Xbox live tour perhaps you can't but you sure can do quickplay with guests on live with other people remotely. My wife and I have successfully played on one account with my friend and his wife on his single account. You just have to make sure the xbox live account profile signs in first.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

You're used to keeping your index on green and your pinky on blue - this is called "1st position".

2nd position is shifted down one fret (index on red, pinky on orange).

You'll find that playing Hard and Expert it is typically easier to start in 2nd position and shift up to 1st when necessary or just stretch your index to green as needed. Different songs call for different methods. There's something to be said for familiarity with the song or just simple practice.

Trust me, it'll come. Just keep at it.

Mad Dawg 01-26-09 09:02 AM

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

My standard two comments on this: First of all, the shift from Med to Hard is probably the toughest you make in these games. It's also one of the most rewarding when it clicks.

Secondly, on songs that you a lot of Orange, trying keeping your 4 fingers on the RYBO frets, then use your index finger for the G and R. You've got more control over it than you do your pinky, so it's easier to stretch it to hit Green. (Or what Pinata said while I was taking an hour to write a few sentences.)

I'd also throw in: Have fun. Switching levels can be frustrating, but stick with it, and go back to improve your higher tier Medium songs when you get frustrated.

I'll echo what everybody here has said about the move, and also add that a nice "half step" for advancing on guitar is to play bass. I went from Med. Guitar to Hard Bass, then Hard Guitar, Expert Bass, and am now working on Expert Guitar.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

Yep, I think you're going to get basically the same advice from everybody - practice. :D

And starting out on the easy songs makes it a much more natural progression. So if you are doing good on harder medium songs, stepping up to easier songs on hard shouldn't be too terribly difficult. Usually they don't use the orange button a ton, so you can get away with being in your more natural "1st" position most of the song, and just shifting to "2nd" position a little bit. Then, as has been stated, once you progress through songs on hard, more and more they'll use that orange button and starting in "2nd" position will be more natural by then.

I didn't even really attempt hard until Rock Band came out. I was stuck on the first few hard songs on GH2, and figured I'd never be able to get it. But after playing RB1 on medium for a long time, figured I might as well try hard, and after plenty of playing and practice, I got it down pretty good. Now I can beat 90% of the songs on expert, which a year and a half ago I figured would never happen.

Just stick with it, once it "clicks" and you finally figure things out, the game's fun-factor (IMO) increases a ton.

What I do is envision the chart as one group of 4 and another group of 4. This comes from my guitar playing background, and looking at the fretboard as "boxes" of notes. If you do this, you'll play as normal, just in 1st position sometimes and 2nd the other.

But practice is really the only way. It will click, just keep working at it.

Glad that someone asked about moving to hard and got some quality replies. I just started playing around a month ago and got to the point last night where the 'medium' options disappeared for some of the gigs I unlocked. I was getting absolutely killed on them, so it's good to hear the tips. Sounds like I'll be going back to some of the first gigs and replaying them.

The other option, in RB2, is to do challenges. Start out with some of the easier challenges on hard, then you won't have to worry about losing fans or anything.
