Because Harmonix sees no money from the sale of a used game. It's an incentive to spend the extra $5 for shrink-wrap and security stickers.

I checked thru the thread and didn't see it mentioned (but if it was it was easily overlooked) but I checked the previews for the Roy Orbison songs last night and was disappointed to find that the only original song in the group was "You Got It." All of the others were obvious re-recordings of Roy. Has any reason been mentioned as to why? I figured it was due to the original masters are probably long gone but was just curious if there was a definitive answer.

Nope, that's pretty much it. Roy apparently re-recorded a bunch of songs in the 80s for his greatest hits CD, and I'm guessing that the masters from the original versions were either missing or not detailed enough to create full charts from, so they used the 80s re-recording masters. It's a bit of a bummer, but at least it's Roy singing them instead of a cover version.

They don't owe used buyers anything since they didn't get any $ from used buyers.

I meant that PS3 users who buy used will get those tracks, right? I agree that the 20 songs should have just been free downloads...

If the PS3 also has a download code, then I can understand.

No, the PS3 version didn't contain those tracks on disc either. Many thought they would for the same reason you're referring to.

I started playing RB2 tonight with my RB1 drums and I was finally starting to catch on with easy mode. Then my drum stick broke :(. I think my drums were bad anyway since it was missing things where you could see the button flash on screen like I hit it but it wouldn't count it. Also I would be go from hitting 100% in a series to missing everything halfway through.

Now the dilemma is do I spend the money to buy RB2 drums or do I just buy new sticks hoping it was just me sucking and not the instrument.

Me too, though I would love some of their 80s stuff even more.
First Strike Still Deadly would be good too.

Another dumb question I don't feel like searching for: did they ever release the extra songs for the 360 that they gave a code for? I never checked on it and forgot about them.

Yeah Spider. Go ahead and enter the code from the booklet on their site and you will be emailed the redemption code.

OR just pretend like you never got the code. Throw it in the trash. Go on living like those 20 songs never came out.

Either way, the result will basically be the same.

Yeah I am about to delete them, they are truly awful unfortunately. A wasted opportunity.

xmiyux 01-14-09 07:37 PM

 I really dug a few of those songs.

The only song I didn't really care for was the one by Dealership. Every other song was ace on at least one instrument.

Yeah, I have had a good time playing drums on most of those free 20 songs. There might be a few stinkers, but nothing I absolutely can't stand.

Damn, how hard are you playing if you broke a stick?

Well on the positive side at least it doesn't bother me that you have to delete the whole 20 songs, since there weren't any of them I wanted to keep anyway.

On the other hand, I may have missed a few of them. Any ones particularly recommended to check out before I hit delete?

I can't comment on drums because I don't do them much, but if I remember correctly, you're big on vocals.

Stuff that stands out:

Authority Zero: No Regrets- fun on vocals (in a Bad Religion sort of way), great bass chart
Between the Buried and Me: Prequel to the Sequel - Great guitar chart, ridiculous drums
Endeverafter: I Wanna Be Your Man - pretty fun on vocals, decent guitar chart
Kutless: The Feeling - same as above
Lesley Roy: I'm Gone, I'm Going - great on vocals in a Paramore kind of way
Semi-Precious Weapons: Magnetic Baby - I'm probably the only person that will admit to liking this one. :)
Shaimus: Like a Fool - Pretty decent guitar chart, somewhat difficult on vocals

The rest is somewhat middle of the road, but nothing that I just outright wouldn't want to ever play, except for maybe the Dealership song on guitar/bass. I'll have to give that one a spin on drums to see if that is its redeeming factor.

I wasn't playing very hard at all which is the weird thing since I am still trying to get the drums down. I think I started hitting harder though since it didn't seem to register the hits as often if I didn't. Hell I wasn't even playing a solo.

The weird thing also is the stick broke just below where I hold it versus breaking at the tip and it was a clean break. I almost wonder if it had a hairline crack in it to begin with since the break was straight through in a smooth line.

I never even bothered to download. Why get a bunch of songs from no-name artists? Such a waste.

You mean the one I gave you, or did you keep that one and sell yours later? Wow, I really didn't think people would pay for it, especially almost 30 bucks. Well played, Sir.
