Looks like IGN already has a review of next week's(?) DLC up and it's Grateful Dead Pack 02!!

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/946/946431p1.html

Cold Rain and Snow
Doin' That Rag
Don't Ease Me In
Fire on the Mountain
Hell in a Bucket
Uncle John's Band

I'm in. I really like the first set of songs.

I would have preferred :

Shakedown Street
Eyes Of The World
Help On The Way / Slipknot!
U.S. Blues

But I will take whatever Dead they want to release.

Yeah, I'm with you there.

I did just finally pick up the RB2 drum set, so that'll keep me going for a bit.

I finally picked up RB2 for XBOX and need some help/clarification

It sounds like I have to keep buying Microsoft points to purchase/download these tracks. Is there any strategy or secret to buying these downloads or will I be spending about $1.50-2.00 (160 points) per song? Are some downloadable songs master tracks while others aren't? Will these songs last forever? (are they playable in future versions of Rock Band?)

I see about 50 songs I want to buy which could get expensive...

I'm also excited for Nothing's Shocking. It seems like that one has been announced and on its way for half a year.

Yes.

Yes. Just keep up with the general Xbox 360 thread. Whenever a deal is found it will be posted there. Generally the average deal is only a couple dollars off, however, about 1-2x a year some retailer has a GREAT deal on them. Last summer you could get a $20 card at Target for $10 with a coupon. Summer before that Circuit City had a B1G1 free offer, also making them $10 each. It was also good to buy during Ebay's 30% Cashback offer during Christmas. You could snag a $50 point card for about $30-$35. Sometimes they are also offered as incentives for buying new games. I think Amazon gave away a $20 card when you bought Gears of War 2 at some point.

When these deals happen, it's good to stock up to make them last until the next great deal comes along. I generally have 5-7 cards on hand from these deals. Just keep an eye on the 360 thread.

Are some downloadable songs master tracks while others aren't?

Yes.

For the first few months they released cover tunes. They are denoted with an asterisk in the marketplace. So there are a couple dozen cover tunes, but ever since then everything has been master tracks.

Will these songs last forever? (are they playable in future versions of Rock Band?)

For the current gen they will more than likely be compatible with future versions of Rock Band (Beatles game excluded). Who knows about next gen. There will be a ton of backlash if they don't work in some fashion.

I see about 50 songs I want to buy which could get expensive...

Dammit, now I have to wait a week and a half to get the test of the dead out of my mouth.

While there is no outstanding song in this new Grateful dead pack, after being blown away by the previous GD pack, 100% chance i buy all songs no matter what. GD is just so much fun to play all around.

I'm not into the dead, but I do have a couple of songs downloaded and they are damn fun to play on guitar.

I've yet to buy the first Dead pack, but did play through them all once on guitar and had a good time on most of them. I don't particularly care for the music, but it was damn fun to play. Music that is fun to play will grow on me, so if they look fun, I might just give the HMX and the Dead a $20 card next week.

xmiyux 01-21-09 08:15 AM

Uncle John's Band will be really easy to sing but i think it will also be a blast. Very upbeat and a simple melody without many high to low or low to high changeups.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

3 of those songs are solid pretty good songs.

Fire On The Mountain, Uncle John's Band and Hell in a Bucket.

Cold Rain and Snow can go either way. This is from their first studio album and if they go with that version it is OK, but a live version from the early 70's would be better. By then they had slowed the tempo a little bit and it was a better song. And no, it is not a live song that they extended to an hour. I hope at some point they give us a live version and this would be one song that would benefit from being a live version.

Doin' That Rag and Don't ease me in. Eh. I'd have to listen to the studio versions again. These two songs could easily be replaced with other songs.

Sugaree would be a great song to put in but i think that technically is probably considered a Garcia song because it was on one of his solo albums.

If they wanted to put one Dead song on there that was possibly hard for guitar it would be Help On The Way -> Slipknot. That would probably be the hardest Dead song for guitar, but I could be wrong. That would just be my guess.

I can see the Grateful Dead being pretty popular...but not with me... skip. Hopefully we get something else great before TEN on March 24....otherwise I don't see myself playing RB2 much between now and then (BLASPHEMY!).

Blasphemy is right! :)

According to 360voice, I've got 128 days in RB2 and 200 in RB1. I believe RB2's only been out for 128 days. :)

Mine are sitting at 100 days in RB1 and 50 in RB2.

Well, sold the drums for $70 and I'm selling the guitar for $50 tomorrow. Might make $15-$20 on the microphone. Keeping the game and $25 TRU giftcard for free + a few extra bucks.

Somewhere down the line I want those portable drums, but only if they work with both RB and GH. This monstrosity (wireless drums) took way too much space.

I decided I won't download anymore DLC, except for country, the RHCP album, and songs I absolutely love. It's cheaper to just buy a whole other game.

What happened to this being your most favoritest game evah?

GatorDeb 01-21-09 12:46 PM

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

Guitar - using the GH guitar for it.
Drums - don't have the space for those and will pick up eventually the portable ones.
Microphone - waiting for the Lips patch.

Not getting rid of the game, just trimming down on the peripherals :D

I think he was referring to the lack of DLC purchasing.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread of not having to cry about starting new threads as oft

Way too expensive, when you compare it to package deals. I'm getting the Beatles, RBIII, etc on release day, and I'll still enjoy playing through the songs that come built in, but $1-$2 per song is too much. I'd rather buy iPod Touch apps :D

I think 50 cents for ALL DLC is a good price point. That way it's $40 for 80 songs, or about what comes in a standalone game.
