This is similar to what was going on over on ScoreHero and the official RB Forums this week. People were raising hell that they were releasing Nickolodean songs for the platform. They were going on and on about how Rock Band is tainted now and that just having those songs available completely ruins the game. They're OPTIONAL songs!! There's no one putting a gun to your head to add these to your library of available songs. They're just there because someone will enjoy it.

There are over 500 songs available, I'm sure that everyone can find at least 50-100 songs that they actually enjoy playing (even the close-minded folks). I highly doubt that the week of 12/16 is going to be only country music. They'll probably supplement it with another pack or some singles for those who aren't into that type of music. Even with the crappy (in my opinion) Nick songs this week, they still had enough variety out there so that no one should rightfully bitch about things.

pinata242 12-04-08 11:43 AM

 The variety they've shown recently is what needs to continue. Throw 6-9 every week across various genres, decades, and styles and let people choose.

They also need to release everything GH is releasing. I'm fighting so hard not to buy 1979 right now and those classic Eagles songs will be hard to ignore.

Michael Corvin 12-04-08 12:41 PM

Yeah, I don't mind the additions as long as there are some rock options that week as well. They have to get their brand out there as big as GH and if it takes a wide range of genres to do it, than fine by me. Just don't leave behind the rockers.

Oh, I hate country too, but I've had to pass on a LOT of questionable DLC...if country taints the brand for you, I can't imagine you've been fine with everything else they've released.

If I thought the game was tainted from one genre that I hated being offered, I'd have quit the game during the RB 1 days.

shumway 12-04-08 05:51 PM

I'm down. I don't listen to country all the time but like several artists. I think several Brad Paisley songs would be a blast to play and sing.

The Bus 12-04-08 05:55 PM

We need more country.

The only Dixie Chicks song I really know (and like) is "Wide Open Spaces" from that same-titled album.

More country raises the chances of "Friends in Low Places" and some real country (Cash) to be released.

I'm not even a fan of country, but I will buy these tracks just so HMX keeps expanding the genres they offer. That's the same reason I buy all the non-English tracks.

rocketsauce 12-04-08 08:50 PM

Can we please stop bickering about country music and get to the real problem at hand?

When will they release the Law & Order theme song?

pinata242 12-04-08 11:04 PM

So I've got an all-of-the-sudden bad feeling about the No Doubt announcement tomorrow. First it was 14 songs out of 15 and we were wondering what 1 song wouldn't make the cut - would it be "It's My Life" because it's a cover (but still master No Doubt) or something like "Trapped in a Box" that might not fit in well with the style of play?

Now it's apparently only 13 songs meaning 2 are left off. So what's the thinking? The bad mojo I'm feeling tonight is what I'm calling The Nevermind Effect. When that "Nirvana 7-pack" hit it was painfully obvious that it was just the remainder of their "Nevermind" album without the 3 big singles. The question still unanswered is "when are we getting those?" Possibly an awesome 3-pack. Maybe a few packs with other cuts over time. Most likely they're held back for future installments of the game.

Now I'm worried that we'll see 2 of the major No Doubt hits held back for the same sort of thing. Things like "Spiderwebs", "Don't Speak", or "I'm Just a Girl". I seriously hope I'm wrong and it's a couple of tracks no one will really miss in the grand scheme, but I can't shake the thought...

Don't know...my wife plays drums. I suck so badly at them I don't even try. She hasn't gotten to take a crack at them yet, though...probably over the weekend.

argh923 12-04-08 11:59 PM

I absolutely fucking hate country music, but I still have no problem with them bringing it out, as long as they have something else to supplement it. Admittedly I haven't bought much in the past month, but that's fine, as I still have a ton to play.

Artman 12-05-08 12:52 AM

Help!! I just got my PS3 back and it appears to be the same unit...I backed up my system data and restored it... but it didn't save my RB character or songs! When I go into the store it still recognized the songs i downloaded, but of course it doesn't let me download again... I only had one character and I could probably redo it all again in a day...but I just want my songs back.

What can I do?

Normally, I'd join you in your worries. However, No Doubt's own website was the source of the 13 track count. I'd think they're a bit more in the know than we are, but I could be wrong.

Regardless, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that "Trapped in a Box" is included (because I love old No Doubt) and "Hella Good" is dropped (because I can't fucking stand that song).

Michael Corvin 12-05-08 07:41 AM

I hope it's Runnin'. That song is painfully slow and will be 'hella' boring to play.

I think you misinterpreted my post. I was taking their claim of 13 as fact but switching the thinking from sensible omissions for the platform to ominous HMX dealings by keeping the best back for future releases of Rock Band titles.

Mad Dawg 12-05-08 09:00 AM

I think there's a deeper issue with the missing Nirvana than that they want the songs for later games. It's not like they'd be out of Nirvana if they used them.

But I wouldn't be surprised if one of the missing No Doubt songs was Spiderwebs since it's in WT. It's possible that there are WT songs that are exclusive for a period if they chose not to lock up the artist. Paramore's "Misery Business" is a possibility that's been mentioned along those lines because it was long rumored to be RB DLC, then showed up in WT and nowhere else.

Michael Corvin 12-05-08 09:07 AM

Problem with that is that outside of Metallica, the Beatles, Hendrix and Aerosmith(timed exclusive) both camps have been pretty open about exclusivity deals and nothing has been mentioned about any other bands. I can't imagine a single song would warrant an exclusivity deal outside of something like Stairway to Heaven. You know they would be shouting it from the rooftops and promoting it as such if there were.

It's weird. Semi-recently HMX came out and said there were no exclusivity deals on either side they were aware of, meaning anything GH had, they could have and vice versa (with the exception of developer bands, I suppose).

But with the Beatles announcement, it was made quite clear the deal with Apple Corp was an exclusive agreement and GH was precluded.

Michael Corvin 12-05-08 09:17 AM

I remember that HMX article, but there was a Rolling Stone article where Hendrix was announced and it was said to be exclusive to GH (timed, I believe). I think the timed Aerosmith was mentioned in the actual press release. As for Metallica, I don't think anything has been mentioned but everyone is inferring it from the Death Magnetic DLC + GH: Metallica announcement.

Well, yeah, but as you and the fam showed so well, that game transcends the genre. It plays by its own rules.

 Chuck, got any more videos? You need your own thread here with them. I highly enjoyed the popstar guitar one.

I hope they don't drop New (from the Go soundtrack).
