My PS3 played back the vob files without any kind of encoding. However, I did use twonky media manager to stream the files to the ps3.

Question though: what tower is the best defense for these bugs that fight back? There's one wave that must be at least two dozen bugs (I think in level 6) that seem to destroy my towers in about two shots.

I've tried Repair towers, they don't help much (and usually get destroyed fast anyway). I've tried Chaos towers, ditto. I've tried Mine towers...they seem to be the best, but I just can't get enough of them out there to take care of all of them!

Here it is from monoprice.com. $11.16 before shipping...

yeah, my receiver has one coaxial digital audio input though my dvd player is currently using it...which I guess then goes back to the whole issue of whether i'll 'burn out' my ps3 sooner if I use it for all my dvd playing as well

Flower is out this Thursday! I'm very excited for that and for next week's release of Noby Noby Boy! :banana:

I've got a tower defense itch....

Bottom line: Pixeljunk Monsters or Savage Moon? Why?

FWIW, I enjoyed the PJM demo quite a bit, but I'd have a hard time paying full price for it when I'm pretty sure it will be on sale again.

I think there's a greater chance of Savage Moon going on sale before PJM goes on sale again. As for my vote, although I haven't played Savage Moon, I would go for PJM. It is by far one of the most often played games in my household, including guests who come over.

Answered my own question by just clearing Level 7: a crapload of Mine Towers and plenty of well-placed mortars!

As to the SM vs PJM question: I'd also go PJM. I've played that game so many times, it made it the best "value" game I've ever played.

I'm really torn, as based on what I know, I like the gameplay and the camera in PJM...but I think I'd like the aesthetic better in Savage Moon.

Hmmm.

I'm looking forward to Flower but doubt I'll drop $10 on it. Just like MS has conditioned us with <$10 arcade titles, Sony has conditioned us to expect sales. If it's not part of the next sale, I'll bite at full price.

*edit - I've gone back to PixelJunk Eden and man Garden 7 is a big kick in the nuts. I've already done all of Garden 8 but missed 7 somehow and I'm backtracking. I only did the first 3 Spectra in 7 and by the time I was done I had a splitting headache. That usually doesn't happen, not sure what brought it on.

Yeah, level 7 is definitely a PITA. I wasn't able to complete it until the patch extended the time. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with a game that I'm somehow still enjoying and keep going back to play more.

My *#*&$&@* PS3 ate my library disc. Now I have to deal with returning the disc late a few weeks and having the PS3 repaired. Argh.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition

Sorry to hear that.

I doubt it was the disk, but I never put rental (or library) disks in my PS3...partly because it's a 60gb and is irreplaceable.

What's the difference between a rental, borrowed or owned disc? As long as they have little to no scratches or dirt, they're all the same.

For the tower defense itch, here's two free tower defense games at miniclip.com.

Viking Defense: I really like a couple things in this game that PJM does not have:
1) Doing certain things in a level (e.g. building 10 buildings, destroying X flying enemies) opens up additional structures/abilities you can build/use;
2) By building higher cost structures, you obtain special powers that you have to use wisely, as they take a couple minutes to refresh (this would be like in PJM if you had a mine you could use every three minutes, rather than use five gems); and
3) You can build a structure that lets you build additional places from which to build new structures (in PJM, this would be the equivalent of building more trees). Again, in this game anyway, you build a structure to do this, and then get to build a new "tree" about every 2 minutes or so following that.

I played this before ever playing PJM and, while PJM is obviously the better game, it seemed kind of simple. I hope that a PS3 tower defense can borrow some ideas from the above. Never played Savage Moon. I don't like the idea of having to scroll around and losing track of base, though.

Here is an earlier predecessor, as well:
Canyon Defense

Chew 02-11-09 10:27 AM

Cleared Level 8 of Savage Moon with only machine gun, anti-air, mortar, and blocking towers.

Apparently, you don't need to waste resources on the more advanced towers when fully upgraded "basic" towers do the job just fine. :):up:

But they might have fingerprints that aren't mine!

Seriously, I rarely get rental disks that aren't in bad shape, and library disks (in my experience) are absolutely trashed. :(

Thanks. That actually IS how I've been scratching the itch. First, it's free. Second, mouse is probably a better interface. Third, I have a plasma TV. I don't worry much about burn in, but PJM is a REALLY static image.

I'll try those at miniclip.

The game does have a setting in the options menu for that concern.

Spring Fever comes to PSN

Even though the Punxsutawney Groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, PlayStation Network has already caught Spring Fever. To help spread our excitement, we’re launching “PSN Spring Fever” on PlayStation Store to celebrate the exceptional PlayStation Network games and exclusive content on tap to launch in the next few months. And unlike the “official” Groundhog prediction, Spring for us starts tomorrow with the launch of Flower from thatgamecompany.

In addition to current PSN exclusive hits like PixelJunk Eden, PAIN and flOw, you can look forward to several other highly anticipated games such as Flower, Noby Noby Boy, Burn Zombie Burn and The Punisher: No Mercy to name a few. And with these exclusive blockbusters launching on a weekly basis, we’ll offer the best downloadable games lineup around. A few of the titles include:

* Flower
* Noby Noby Boy
* No Gravity
* Wheel of Fortune
* Burn Zombie Burn
* Ragdoll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic
* The Punisher: No Mercy
* In addition to these titles, PlayStation Network will also be launching Bomberman Ultra, Celfactor Ignition, Flock, Texas Cheat-em, Diner Dash, Comet Crash, Hammer Fall, Underfire, Watchmen, Worms, Zen Pimball and many more during this timeframe.
* Plus the existing blockbuster, exclusive titles already on PlayStation Network such as Crash Commando, Savage Moon, Echochrome, Pixel Junk Eden, PAIN, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty and more!

PlayStation Store is launching a dedicated “PSN Spring Fever” section featuring games, trailers, and themes available for download with the launch of Flower. And the PlayStation Blog will have weekly posts of developer diaries to show a behind-the-scenes look at some of these great titles.

Check out the dedicated “PSN Spring Fever” section on the PlayStation Store or catch additional PlayStation updates in an upcoming bi-weekly edition of PULSE.
