Still you have to admit though the variety and number doesn't equal what's available on the 360, or even the PS2.

Gonna have to disagree with this one. While a great majority of the user-created levels stink, there are plenty of them that I feel easily surpass the levels that come with the game. You just have to look for them and play a lot of crappy ones to find them.

Most of the AAA titles on the PS3 are on the 360 as well and to some degree that is clouding your judgement of this console. Bioshock, COD4, Dead Space, Orange Box, Oblivion, GTA IV, Rockband etc. are all AAA titles available on both systems and just because they came out sooner on the 360 (not counting Dead Space and GTA IV) doesn't make them any less a AAA title. The fact is the PS3 has a lot of really good games, it's just most of us have played them already on the 360. The PS3 just needs more exclusive AAA titles. I think we'll see some this year with Killzone 2 next month and God of War 3 later this year.

This is completely true. Aside from Uncharted, I haven't been bowled over by any of the exclusives.

Be that as it may, as a packaged game it wasn't much of a game, though what was there was certainly memorable. It does have the best online integration I've seen yet on the PS3 (though I seem to fight with Cannot Connect issues pretty often.) and stylistically it is fantastic. Of course, I did know the limits of the included content and that it focused on user generated content going into it, it just didn't hold my interest as much as I wanted.

Me too. I can't even begin to fathom how an adult could find enough time to need more games than the PS3 has to offer, even if you just include exclusives.

Truth is that there aren't many 360 exclusives that I'm all that interested in. Off the top of my head, I'd like to play:

Dead Rising
Ace Combat 6
Gears
Left 4 Dead

...and I don't think I'd trade those for Uncharted, Ratchet, LittleBIGPlanet and Warhawk.

Ninja Gaiden II is another amazing 360 exclusive. But the original NG was an Xbox exclusive that eventually got ported to the PS3, so it might just be a matter of time (even though it was published by Microsoft Game Studios).

Hey, I'm just glad to get the qualifier it just isn't your thing. I will play the game all year and will design several more crappy levels. If you filter for levels based on "highest rated", you will find some remarkable stuff...both in terms of innovation and in terms of polish.

Easily my Game of the Year last year, if for no other reason than the fact that there's nothing like it.

I didn't like the demo for the first one. Possibly just not my cup of tea.

At any rate, I wouldn't trade it for God of War...a game in the same vein.

edited to add "demo" to my first statement above.

God of War is a great series. In fact, it's the only for-sure PS3 exclusive I'm interested in. I don't know how close I'd compare it with NG, though. I guess they're both action platformers with combos.

GoW has a great story and setting. NG has crazy difficulty and a ninja. They both are exceedingly violent.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition

To me, they are pretty similar with GoW having the more interesting story and action (in my opinion, of course)

I know I'm coming off as fanboyish, and no, I don't own a 360. Reliability and blu-ray drove me the other way, and I can't be bothered to buy two machines that are otherwise so much alike.

Thing is, I think the "lack of games" stuff is largely just internet hyperbole. Most AAA games are multiplatform, and I think PS3 exclusives actually compare very favorably with 360 exclusives (other than the online shooter genre).

Sony has messed up plenty this generation in terms of pricing and marketing, but I love the hardware, and the games are more than plentiful...just wish I had more time.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition

The types of game I typically like (JRPG) have been on the Sony systems, which was a reason I got the PS3. Kingdom Hearts 3, Dragon Quest, etc and God of War 3 for the series because I enjoy them immensely.

Since then, the 360 has stepped in to fill that void in the PS3's library with Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata (before the PS3 version), Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Inifinite Undiscovery, and Last Remnant.

With DQ having gone back to Nintendo (DS & Wii) and KH3 still a no-show, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it multi-platform like FFXIII now, God of War 3 is the only thing I can foresee remaining of my original thought.

If it wasn't for Blu-Ray and PS2-BC, I wouldn't even use my PS3. And that's not because I'm a fanboy, I honestly thought I would use it but they haven't given me (for my tastes) anything I need to play like I expected.

Based on early reviews, Killzone 2 is a step in the right direction. Hopefully some of the other upcoming exclusives are as well received.

I wouldn't be surprised if God of War III is the next retail PS3 game that I purchase. I'm simply not as much of a gamer as I used to be. :(

I hate to say this, but I never planned to purchase it myself as I borrowed the first two from my wife's coworker. I expect to do that again.

Killzone doesn't look like my thing, but I'll buy it at $30 if there's a story worth playing (think Bioshock/Half-Life).

But you're right...it looks impressive and has an absurd metacritic rating. Combined with Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and the next Ratchet, it looks like a good year for PS3.

Heavy Rain looks impressive too, but I remain cautious.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition

I'm cautiously optimistic for Killzone, the first had a ton of hype and wasn't very memorable (though it also had lousy reviews), the new one is receiving solid scores (IGN gave it a 9.4, and well, that's about the only non-Playstation affiliated US source to review it thus far) but I've been burnt by a lot of game reviews lately (GTA IV and MGS4 come to mind).

The PS3 does look to have a promising lineup for this year, hope it works out alright (and man do I hope R&C turns out better than Future, which looked nice but I swear I played that exact game before, multiple times.)

Gamepro gave it 100 according to Metacritic.

I lost interest in MGS years ago, but GTA IV was brilliant.

Does Gamepro have a numeric rating system now, or is that just like 4 thumbs up or whatever they used to use to rate games?

I think it's still the 5 crystal meth faces system that they've always used.

Beats me, just saw the Metacritic interpretation...as close as I can get at work.

That seems to work well for Nintendo.

If anyone is interested Sams Club has to 50 dollar PSN cards for 42 dollars. I was not charged tax.

Also I picked up the PS3 for LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted. Been impressed with both so far.

From the Amazon deals thread (in case anybody missed it):

Killzone 2 preorder for $51.99 when using $5 off coupon code KZ2SAVE5 at checkout.

Not for me, but thought some folks might be interested.
