I prefer using PlayOn which works great on both the PS3 and 360 and supports full screen playback and smooth video.
Yes, I have used the full screen option with hulu but it didn't work well at all. Worked much better with zooming-- for me at least!

I had a problem using Hulu on the PS3 where If i paused the video, the entire system would freeze. I stopped doing that after the second time.

i am impressed with the multimedia capabilities of both platforms. the ability to use psp connect to view media remotely is a pretty trick feature of the ps3. i agree with whomever posted previously that both systems lack of easy mac connectivity is a bit of a downer. as i do not want to buy multiple programs to stream to either the xbox or the ps3, i bought medialink (as opposed to 360 connect) last week and i think that does a fine job. i use my 360 primarily for games (and netflix movies) and my ps3 primarily as a media center.

I mentioned the mac issue. IIRC, same company that makes MediaLink also makes 360 Connect. I have my systems on two different TVs so I bought both pieces of software. It's nice having access to everything in multiple rooms of the house. I've had the 360 version for a lot longer though just for custom soundtracks. I just picked up Media Link this weekend.

Same problem here, as I discovered this weekend when I tried watching the latest Galactica episode. The buffer doesn't work well enough for continuous play on the PS3 (it stutters constantly and the low-res image is hardly appealing), and since I can't pause to let a substantial portion of the show load, Hulu is more or less of no use to me. I can appreciate that a site like this exists as an alternative for those who don't have cable, but when the not-so-legal sector can offer up a much better version, then that's where I'm going to turn.

I was severely disappointed in Hulu on the PS3. Choppy and unwatchable for me. Still, it's a legit way to catch a show I missed for one reason or another.

Hulu?

You know what I really like to watch on my PS3?

Little Big Planet
Warhawk
Bioshock
Uncharted
Rock Band

Great shows.

As a piece of hardware and a multimedia device, the PS3 is better. As a console or as a value offering, the 360 is better.

How do you do the "easy" MKV conversion for the PS3?

So the browser/Hulu isn't a value added feature? I thought we were talking about multimedia functionality.

I absolutely love this feature, but often have a hard time connecting to my PS3 remotely. Is there some trick to make it more reliable?

have you enabled port forwarding in your router?

Yes but I only recall one port being forwarded specifically for PSP/PS3. Do you know which ports are supposed to be forwarded?

Yep that's the one, and I do have it forwarded. It connects most of the time, but it really sucks when it doesn't and it takes like 90 seconds or whatever to tell me there was an error. I willing to deal with it.

And Bus as wewantflair said mkv2vob is the tool everyone uses. The drawback is your audio will be downsampled. Still looks nice though.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition

I'm definitely going to give mkv2vob a try this weekend.

On another note - I just picked up Enemy Territory: Quake Wars PS3 ... the reviews on this one are brutal, though I picked it up on the cheap. Is the game really that terrible? Seems like the most common criticisms of the console (particulary PS3) versions are: lackluster graphics, no storyline or explanation. A lot of reviews I've read were evaluating the value of the game based on the $60 price tag, so assuming price is not a factor in the equation, has anyone been able to find anything redeeming in this title that would make it worth keeping?

Sure, and I use them all the time. It's just disheartening that PS3 discussion is about everything but games. Sony is at fault as well, since they seem to be marketing the PS3 as everything but a game machine.

I didn't intend that to be as rude as it probably came off...just wanted to talk about games...especially LittleBIGPlanet, which is the most fun I've had with a game since Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm able to stream mkv to the ps3, it's the same principle as Tversity but IMO much more streamlined.

IIRC, there was some discussion of Savage Moon (PSN game) in this thread a while back. The frequently delayed game is now set for release tomorrow on the US PlayStation store.

Great shows.
If you're watching those you're doing it wrong.

Uncharted and BioShock were great but short-lived (not to mention really old), same goes for LittleBigPlanet for those not interested in level creation (and while some user levels are nice, they're nothing compared to the real ones). I wish I liked Warhawk. The PS3 really needs some games

K.

Both are plenty replayable, and I usually buy my games about a year old, so

same goes for LittleBigPlanet for those not interested in level creation (and while some user levels are nice, they're nothing compared to the real ones).
People are doing some brilliant stuff out there. I have a 4 star level, and it's not even in the same league as some of the stuff folks have done out there. LBP may not be YOUR bag, but "short-lived" is an absurd description.

I wish I liked Warhawk.
I wish you did too. It's the best online game I've played. Granted, I'm not an FPS fan.

The PS3 really needs some games
It's keeping me plenty busy. I'm only half-way through Bioshock, still have Prince of Persia on deck, still play Rock Band at least once a week, check out LBP just about every night, and wish I had time to get better at Warhawk.

Killzone 2 looks amazing. Uncharted 2 looks amazing. God of War is coming. The Ico team is working on something, I'm sure.

I tend to agree with your statement. However, to be fair you're a 360 gamer as well. Most of the AAA titles on the PS3 are on the 360 as well and to some degree that is clouding your judgement of this console. Bioshock, COD4, Dead Space, Orange Box, Oblivion, GTA IV, Rockband etc. are all AAA titles available on both systems and just because they came out sooner on the 360 (not counting Dead Space and GTA IV) doesn't make them any less a AAA title. The fact is the PS3 has a lot of really good games, it's just most of us have played them already on the 360. The PS3 just needs more exclusive AAA titles. I think we'll see some this year with Killzone 2 next month and God of War 3 later this year.
